  1. Yes, certainly a happy birthday wish sent your way!! Rob
  2. Ain't slowed me down much. Rob
  3. Pleading the 5th. Rob
  4. I'm going to license the truck on Monday and give it a short 100 mile or so "shakedown" run bobtail. I'm going to go with antique license plates from the start, and later pursue working tags as with the exception of pulling this trailer home the truck is not needed yet for business. I'm off work the next couple of weeks so need to get a travel plan put together and watch the weather for a clearing. I do plan to stop to see you guys probably on both the drive over and return. Your location is a little better than 1/2 the travel distance to Manchester. Rob
  5. Yes but I'm still working on perfection. Rob
  6. And the same back your way. Rob
  7. I've got a lot of checking to do as I've never had IFTA stickers or carried a log book, (for instance). Never have licensed anything over 26,000# and seldom operated out of Illinois. When I did, never had any problems. Rob
  8. I certainly agree. When I had the turbocharger built the operating parameter questions asked were pretty simple; bore, stroke, diesel, 1000ft. pounds torque at 1400rpm, They sized the A/R to the desired parameters as directed. A computer map was generated and the exhaust section of the turbocharger figured at a .93A/R. On a flow bench this needed altered a little to acheive the correct "zone" to keep the exhaust pulses from saturation which can break turbine fins. After satisfying the parameters for the turbocharger operation, the fuel system and timing was addressed. I didn't have anything to do with this so don't know what was done. I followed instructions installing the parts, and chained her to the dyno. What I was wanting to do is find the weakest link of a very common engine series people have in B models, and gain appreciable output power increase using this existing platform. My 711 is sound and I was not looking to "hot rod" the truck as it really is junk, except the engine and trans. As mentioned earlier my target of 300 reliable horsepower was never fully realized, but the engine makes a consistant 250 at the wheels the way it sets. This in itself is about 50 horsepower more than original design criteria for the engine. I'm happy with it as is. If I were to cut the heads for fire rings, I'm quite certain I could acheive the 300 mark and it would hold together fine. I don't have piston coolers so wouldn't want to push it really hard cause once broke, it would be fatal. I kinda put the project on the back burner like so many others to maybe pick up again, someday. Rob
  9. Very good advice if not using time proven technology, or experimenting. Rob
  10. Both Allis forklifts I've owned were gasoline powered but used a four cylinder Continental flat head. I believe the diesels were also built by Continental but don't know anymore than that. Rob
  11. Few years ago I had Majestic Turbo in Waco, TX build me a turbocharger and a friend of his in Mclean, TX match the injectors/pump to the turbocharger map. The injection pump was tweaked , (I don't know what was done) but not totally rebuilt. The package performed very strongly together on a Dyno but I couldn't keep head gaskets in the engine. Each time the engine was boosted about 31-33 psi, it popped the head gasket between the #2, and #3 cylinders. Three times it done this. Although I was seeing 312 horsepower at the rear wheels, (calculated) at 1650-1750 rpm, (by the dash mounted tach) it was not reliable. This was for my 64 B61. I was wanting to see 300 reliable horsepower from this engine that is a 711. I know the 711 does not have fire rings, nor is built heavy enough for modifications, but the gist of the story is that having a turbocharger built to your denoted specifications, then having the fuel delivery system matched to the induction system characteristics can yeild very desirable results, and live. The system has to engineered to work together or it gets real expensive real quick. This truck makes just over 250 horsepower reliably but really likes to smoke with the stock turbocharger, and tweaked pump installed. Rob
  12. Alright youse guys, I need to solicit some "best" driving directions to pick this thing up. I know how to get from Freightrain's house which I will visit upon the trip for a rest stop. He is in Canton, OH and I will depart there for Manchester, NH in the morning after arrival. I will be driving a Mack tractor and want to avoid the tollways and weigh stations as much as possible. I really don't mind the state highways and going through small towns as I won't be in a big hurry. Also would like to return basically the same route but will be dragging my new trailer empty. Also keep in mind I've never driven this tractor futher than about five miles, never even seen the trailer but assured it is safe for the trip, and have very limited experience overall. I've never had to deal with DOT (involuntarily) alongside the road and the tractor may have antique plates. I may also entertain someone bringing it back or at least partial way too. I can get a load headed out but would require at 53' step to transport, (sawmill apparatus). The seller can load the trailer onto another. Thoughts? Thanks, Rob
  13. And finally the time has come...... Rob
  14. Sounds like stock springs to me as my B61S has the same setup and leaf count. I would have new springs made for the steer axle with the proper arch to leave the truck ride height setting as you like. The rears, (assuming camelback) are going to be expensive to replace. I'd probably look for a set of 34,000-38,000 and replace the complete assembly's. Rob
  15. Interesting: #!Rob
  16. But where did you develop your toilet plunging technique? I've never seen such proficiency applied to this particular task before. Rob
  17. No, not at all. I actually kept it because this party had hit different deer three times in a single year. I put two hoods, (one used) on the truck and a new grille and headlamp on the rt. side. This grille is very usable should it be needed. The new one was over $500.00 last year. Parts for the "Trusty, yet crusty" Dodge will arrive midweek and I'll get it put right back together as I really need the pickup. Rob
  18. Very easily obtained as are the brush block holders, spring, bushings, roller bearings, etc. Rob
  19. Before you make the final determination to replace you might have someone sit in the driver's seat while the engine runs at a fast idle. Flash the fields again on the generator and have the person in the seat tell you if the ammeter deflects when you touch the "F" terminal with the battery positive jumper lead like before. If the generator is defective, the needle will not deflect. If the needle moves toward the positive side, you have a defective regulator, or interconnecting wiring between the two units. Replacing the generator with a modern day alternator is not a bad idea, however there really is nothing wrong with a properly operating generator also. Rob
  20. I really don't make much distinction between them as they all bring in green money when you repair them. This grille was kept with a small stress crack from a deer hit. If someone needs it let me know, I was paid to replace it and this one is very useable and makes an interesting conversation piece. Rob
  21. I'm going to license the R612 next week and give it a bit of "shakedown" to ensure it's reliable. The truck has not been through a DOT inspection in a couple of years so I'll take it to the state police office and get them to give me a "complimentary" inspection for free. They really are pretty decent people to visit with when they don't catch you alongside the road out of compliance. Rob
  22. The Dodge has parts on order and should be her mid week at the latest. I work tomorrow, then off for the next two weeks. My uncle needs that engine for his Diamond T so it will probably not even make it back to my place. I'll give you a call in the next couple of days. I've not found my phone yet after losing it in the snow a couple days ago. Rob
  23. You know Greg with that little "problem" I have, there is a real need to retain such an individual. In all my years I've never found anybody that can plunge a toilet like this guy. Rob
  24. I did win the auction for the trailer I'd asked about earlier. Spoke extensively with the seller after several PM's and conversations from members here assuring me of the sellers integrity. After speaking with the seller, I too find him a "straight shooter" and honest. Really appreciate the "team" help guys. I wouldn't/couldn't have done this without the help here. Yes Morgan, You CAN borrow it when needed. Thanks, Rob http://cgi.ebay.com/...RK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
  25. The rebuild kit the "885" series is still available and easy to acquire. Carquest supplied mine about six month ago. "Filko" is another kit name that is available. Rob
