  1. I've been talking to a guy in Oklahoma on a 1976, or 1977 R686 with a good running, but weakening END676 engine and six speed. It's not all rusted out but has some breaks in the hood. I have another hood but I'm not certain what I'm gonna do with it. What are you looking to do? This is a short tractor with a wet kit on 38 rears. It is Budd style hubs F&R. Rob
  2. That is a nice looking unit, I even like the spokes. From your earlier description, it sounds like minor work and you'd be in business to work with it. Rob
  3. What series of truck are you looking for? I assume a 600, but what type of engine? Rob
  4. I remove the latches, place them into a pan of water and warm them to about 150 degrees or so for about fifteen minutes. This softens and allows the old grease and grit to become loose. Then swish them in fresh hot water to clean and rinse them well. After they cool, spray them well with a foaming motorcycle chain lubricant that solidifies as it dries. This will penetrate into all the nooks and crannies of the latch and will last quite some time. I used to use diesel fuel but Momma got tired of the smell that remained in her pans, (no kidding). I use a product from Winzer that is available online out of Texas. Stuff lasts much longer than regular motorcycle chain lube, but is expensive. Rob
  5. Nice looking truck. I've always wanted a round headlamp Superliners myself. Someday I'm sure. Rob
  6. I've seen it happen but it has always been related to extremely loose joints, or impact. There is an adjustable nut in the end of the drag link where it mounts to the pitman arm. This needs to be kept snug, and greased to keep the arm from "popping off" as you experienced. If it has popped off you will probably need to rebuild the end, or replace it as the socket and ball are worn. Rob
  7. This was sent to me under the caption of "Proof that Obama Voters are Idiots". I don't know about that but I'd certainly try to put the boat into the water by backing in before trying this. Maybe it's just me???? Rob
  8. I guess we really do need to ease up on Tiger.
  9. Forcast?
  10. Third time that one has been listed I know of. Must be some kind of rough condition to not have a taker. Rob
  11. Just left Other Dog at a truckstop in Bloomington, IL. I couldn't meet him at his place so he was headed towards a delivery that took him within 65 miles of mine so we met up this afternoon. Nice to meet him. Rob
  12. We've been down that avenue before. I've been eligible to retire for five full years now. Every goal that matters in my life has been reached. All I need is a single good reason and I'll move along. Been trying to get people trained but the management structure is not conducive to employee retention. This coupled with a pay scale never achieving compensation like us "old timers", does not help matters.. It's a mess to say the least. Rob
  13. Truly one of those I admire most. Rob
  14. Gonna be interesting to see how they "fudge" the time sheet to pay for overtime travel on both Friday, and Saturday, to the same person conveying in two different sources of transport, on the same day during the same hours!! Momma, and Nikki drove home on both days, (sleeping now) and that time was already allocated/approved. The flight thing was out of the blue. All of the travel time for myself on the return trip is encompassed within a normal work day but Saturday is pure overtime as is anything past my 3:30pm work stoppage time on Friday. I didn't leave work on Friday, (Saturday afternoon) until almost 1:30pm, and there are a lot of hours requiring premium compensation. This will really get the bean counters screaming!! There are currently two trainees in beginning classes for this old girl. Think I'm the only person within 500 miles with the credentials to actually work on the thing that is older than me by about four years. It is scheduled to be replaced/upgraded in 2013 but we will see........ I get called to the site several times a year to simply reset and alarm, lockout condition, dropped channel..... Many times there is nothing actually wrong with the equipment. It is the ancillary garbage attached that is troublesome. In a single digitizing machine there are seven processors talking to one another at all times. A simple "glitch" and it goes silent and no more radar coverage. To top it off, this is early 1970's technology working, (remember 8088 Motorola processors)? Rob
  15. Further Clarification to the agenda: Rob
  16. Grant, I can constitute a diagram for you as my R700 has much of the same hardware you are mentioning and having trouble with. I just got back and it will be a few days but I would like to have much of the same information readily available when I reframe this truck shortly. I will probably do away with the R-1 relay valve however as an R-14 valve will do the same when plumbed into the system for anti compounding of the rear brakes. Currently the truck has an SR-1 valve. Rob
  17. I think the actual photo has some age on it also; ie. not a recent photo. Rob
  18. Naw, not shunning anybody. Just got home from work. Didn't get to see Tom, or anyone else on Friday as planned. 1/2 hour after finishing class I get a call from my boss asking if I can fly home quickly due to radar equipment failure. He will pay for the flight, and mileage on the car for Momma and daughter to drive home. This is once again your tax dollars at work. I left Raleigh at 13:20 and arrived at Chicago little over 1.5 hours later. Jumped on another regional jet, (American Eagle) and headed to Peoria. I then grabbed my service truck and headed to the radar site. Only took about three hours to get it back on the air with one channel, but the second one was a bit of a challenge. Ordered a high voltage power supply, (145,000 VDC) and had it "hot shot" delivered from Oklahoma City this morning. After installation and tweaking, all is normal. Got to spend some time with a couple of members of the board but didn't get to finish the second 1/2 of the trip. May get an advance class furthering the knowlege base at the same facility next year but don't know for sure yet. Damn, the dog in the pocket sure looks good. Little Tabasco sauce and onions and it would be just about perfect. Rob
  19. Think I may have an RGN purchased in NY state. If I show up in a tractor with Illinois antique plates, what kind of hoops will I need to jump through to pull this home with the deck empty? Would be planning to travel through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. The trailer will DOT, but has not been used in a couple of years. If it's too much hassle, I can have it hauled home. Thanks, Rob
  20. One more 1/2 day tomorrow and I'm heading home. Got to meet some fellow members and hope to run across more along the road somewhere. Rob
  21. Yeah, that detour to Shreveport was a bit of a long one but the cajun deep fried crawfish was worth it!! Got my happy ass to Raleigh and have made four of the five days through class. Gonna test out tomorrow about 11:00 and get on the road towards Appomatox to do some sight seeing before headed home. Rob
  22. Here ya go Ernie. Few photos of the overhead cams in one of my 1693's. This should get you "up" and in a good mood!! Rob
  23. Yes, you are correct although they are not quite as far out in left field, yet. They should probably stick to inventing things; light bulbs, phonographs, etc. Rob
  24. Hi Mike, your reference goes along with how/why I so daintily stepped around the subject utilizing great finesse, and politeness. Ya'll know me and how difficult it is for me to get to the point so to speak sometimes. Rob
