  1. We all like to help others solve their problems with trucks. It brings us together and I'm not wanting to see that philosophy hurt, or disrupted. I suspect the poster is very young, having little to no practical experience. He is a willing participant, with nothing being wrong with that, but nearly all of the posts have little, or nothing to do with the problems seeking advice for. As most folks that work on anything know, not all knowlege is learned from a book, nor does a book always provide the correct answer being researched. Many times the correct answer is derived from "hands on" experience which is not always easily gained. Rob
  2. I had seen that at the start also. First thought was "Looney Tunes" with the possibility of hitting the post tab too quickly. That was until follow up posts......... Rob
  3. Damn, I think we got us a genuine "Genius" here. I could be wrong, but I've never in seen an E7-350 Mack Diesel engine with "spark plugs". Maybe this is some sort of "new" technology Volvo has incorporated I'm not privvy to. Maybe the prior poster is deriving his clues from a magic "8" ball. Rob
  4. , Geez man, you come up with some absolutely rediculous bullshit that has nothing to do with the problems mentioned, consistently. Unless you have something positive to offer up for a problem someone is asking help for, please retain your thoughts to yourself as they are of no help. Rob
  5. Volvo D16 series engines have been "rock solid" in generator applications for me. Rob
  6. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Rob
  7. Hi Mark, I'm usually out by 4:30pm. Been a nice class so far. Rob
  8. Off to meet a fellow participant for dinner. Rob
  9. There are both lower, and upper mounting rubbers, (bisquits) and all four need to be replaced for both rear cab mounting isolators. Sometimes the bolts and hardware can be reused but I've always used everything new. Mack offers a complete replacement kit. You should be able to change everything out within a couple of hours depending on items that interfere with easy access. Not really a big job to do with minimal tools. Rob
  10. Yes, they are rubber and compress from the "hammering" they take during normal operation. Ask for a photocopy of how much torque to place upon the retention bolts for proper "squish" when the rubber parts are installed. Too tight and they split, too loose and they do not offer the slight cushioning effect they are for. The cab will really bounce and jerk if they are loose. You want a slight bowing out of the sides of the rubber when tightened properly. I'd say about 3/8ths of an inch would be enough. Rob
  11. 2nd day down and I'm actually learning something for sure; stay soaking up the air conditionning inside cause it's hotter than the fires of hell here. Even my fat rolls was sweating. Momma looked like she just got out of the pool with her clothes on! And this was just walking across the parking lot. Rob
  12. If you have an air ride cab you may have a leveling valve gone bad, or air bags not being inflated properly. If not an air ride cab, it is possible the insulators have flattened out from age/usage and just need replaced. Cab sagging in older trucks is quite common. Rob
  13. Off to school again this morning to try to learn sumpin. Hoping Other Dog got along on his trip alright.

Good news. I'll be calling you later this evening as I'm finishing class tomorrow.

  14. 1st day down and both eventful, and entertaining. Nice people at this training facility. We are working with 480 volt UPS units. These suckers have 40 12VDC gell cell batteries internally. Just imagine what they would cost to replace!! Rob
  15. I actually purchased that truck to install the V12 Detroit into; until I discovered it was one of only three ever built!! I went in 1/2's with a gent in Arkansas as he wanted the engine for a Kenworth and I wanted the long hood for the Detroit. When Snowey, (RIP) from the Mack museum revealed the rarity of the truck, I quickly acquired the balance. I've not had a lot of time so haven't worked much with it but have real plans to. My wife is an accountant for Caterpillar and did research revealing that Mack trucks only purchased four 1693TA engines from them. I don't know what happened to the first engine, but assume it was used for test fitment as everything is tight due to the engines physical size. Besides having an oil leak, it runs very well. I'm always in the shop during the evenings and am thinking of restarting the body shop. I've recently been reassigned at the federal job leaving me with more free time than I've had the past few years. Give me a call before showing up as I wouldn't want to miss anyone. This is the truck for the V12 install that was purchased once the 1693TA powered one was ruled out. Rob
  16. I'm still partial to this one. It's also a little over 600hp but has never been dyno'd. Rob
  17. That 343/1693TA engine is actually rated at 620hp, (interrmittent) by OshKosh motor trucks from which I pulled it from. Don't quite know what I'm gonna stuff it into yet. I've quite buying trucks until something is a little further along in the shop. Here is my 78 RL755LST with a factory 1693TA. This one I swear I'll get to one of these days. Rob
  18. I still like this one. Rob
  19. I actually live a normal lifestyle too. Rob
  20. Actually did something along those lines once and the reaction was less than positive. I let the air out of concealed balloon I'd hidden in my shorts underwater in clear view of a few that were watching me and let out a giant "Ahhhhhh". Most that weren't laughing, left saying I was gross. I remember the "Baby Ruth" bar in the swimming pool routine well. Good movie. Rob
  21. Man I'll tell you, 890 miles in a 1986 Dodge Aries wagon with no a/c, plywood and carpet to replace rusted floorboards, with loud, and leaking exhaust, chocked full of necessities, (Fritos brand corn chips, Salsa, hot dogs, chilli, Tabasco sauce, etc). when 90+ degrees is rough on a fat man. I wolfed down three hotcakes and sausage breakfasts from McRonalds this morning and the girls paid for it the next couple of hours down the hiway. I start class tomorrow morning at 7:30am. Should be interesting at the least. Maybe they'll teach me how to hook batteries up correctly. Right now I think I'll eat four Rolaids, and go to bed. Rob
  22. I've always liked that one too. Rob
  23. Walked out the door towards the pool and several young girls started to screaming and dispersed like cockroaches when you turn on the lights!! Then their mothers started yelling obscenities at me from across the courtyard. Some of the things mother's will say in front of their daughter's is beyond me. Such a shame to "poison" the minds of our youth with such garbage, I'll tell you. The hotel manager then appeared and asked me to "put" a bathing suit on if I was going to use the public pool as was their policy, or I would have to leave the hotel. "Geez", I say. people are so unreasonable sometimes. My first assumption was they didn't t appreciate the expanse of a man of my size before them; but maybe it was the double sized, soft sided burrito visciously attacking my throat through my mouth that offended them, lord only knows. I didn't even get to dispense with my excellent poolside manners as the courtyard emptied too quickly. Spoke with a couple of board members this afternoon and laying out plans for a small "get together". I was able to squeeze in a 1/2 case of each Phillips, "Milk of Magnesia", and "Pepto-Bismal", so we should be covered for any event. I never touch the stuff myself but I'm accustomed to Momma's burnt on the edges, raw in the middle cooking style. With only two opposing teeth, I have to go slow or cut stuff into small enough chunks it will slurp up through a straw to eat. Rob
  24. I still have all that stuff too. Lots easier to set points for a 30 degree "dwell" with the flex shaft tool rather than an "Allen" wrench. I've seen so many fools drop screws into the distributor body because they didn't have a "screw starter" or magnetic pickup tool that I found it comical when someone was cussing because of it. Small "Channel Lock" pliers are just a good as sliced bread for the small stuff. I always found a torch a much handier tool for removing old shocks rather than any tool made for the job but I still have the tool...... Rob
  25. Arrived in Raleigh about 1/2 hour ago. It's hot but not near as steamy as the car ride over. I'm in room 204 of the Comfort Suites at 4400 Capitol BLVD. The number is 919-876-2211. Seems like I get to live a little "higher on the hog" than I'm accustomed to for the next five days. Hell, I don't even have to wade in the creek to take a bath here. Rob
