  1. It's strange that I know a couple other parties that have had similar experiences with their Dodge suspension. Across their line front ends were known to be weak but I grease every 5K with an oil change. This must be related to the upward thrust on the ball joint of applying brake force while rolling backward? Frustrating all the same. Thanks,
  2. Is there any chance Detroit Locker/No Spin differentials could be fitted: https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/catalog/differentials/nospin-locking-differential.html These can be however "brutal" when running Bobtail but they sure will not slip under most any conditions. I've had six in various trucks and they do the job reliably.
  3. Real men whom operated those when working keep Chiropractors in business today. That is of course along with this new breed of "pansy" we have to deal with nowadays.
  4. Kind of looks to be an old Suzuki TS185, or TS250 I think. Good bikes in their day.
  5. Glenn; I have a buddy whom hauls out that way often and would treat you right getting it back to your place. He goes by on his way home so not really much out of his way. Can't count how many tons of "treasure" he's brought to my place from all over the country.
  6. Understand Dave. I've never had one of these apart myself or should say that I remember. I built a lot of wood splitters in the early 1980's when that was popular and several times used second hand pumps. Most however were gear pumps and were easy to reverse rotation and that's what I remember most. This is a pump from one of my old splitters I used with a gasoline engine but mother in law preferred an electric version. I built the mount(s), installed an electric drive coupled with a chain coupling after reversing the rotation of this pump during rebuild which consisted of a new gearset, and end plate. Motor is a 5hp single phase unit easily powered by an extension cord, or portable generator. Not shown is the use of an electric tandem center valve and pressure compensation to ensure equal travel speed on extension and retraction of the cylinder which was an 8" bore, 3" rod, and 30" stroke on this unit. I liked to limit operating pressure to 2000psi so everything lasted a good long time and 50 tons of force will split any log. It worked well for a lot of years till becoming disused so I tore it apart for another project repurposing the steel and cylinders in a hydraulic press I've not yet finished. Here is one of the two pumps I have:
  7. Thanks Glenn; I suspected the vane pumps would be reversible but have never done it on the series spoken of. The pumps I have are new and will get a seal kit ordered once flow rate and direction are ascertained.if needed. From memory they seem to be 7/8" 13 spline shafts. It's been quite some time since actually seeing them however. Found a photo on my phone but cannot attach it. V20 series with rt. hand rotation by the tag so getting closer.
  8. I have a selection of these and they work well: https://www.amazon.com/OTC-6275-Tie-Pitman-Adjusting/dp/B0002SRGVG/ref=asc_df_B0002SRGVG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312280085431&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4891096846151681157&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9022077&hvtargid=pla-454050421612&psc=1 They work well on both the frame, and alignment rack(s).
  9. Thanks Dave; I'd not thought of dipstick location as a problem but you are correct in an original manual steering B. My engine is an E6-350 and "had" a power steering pump mounted to the original air compressor, (Bendix Tu-Flo 501) but the pump itself is the type with the reservoir attached. There was not enough room in the engine compartment to fit as the pump itself looks like an over grown Saginaw pump from a mid 1970's GM product. I used the original air compressor, (Bendix Tu-Flo 500) air compressor to get the engine set into the chassis. The engine is originally from a 1982 Cruiseliner and the dipstick is oriented differently than an original B series to clear the pump and requires modification for access to check the oil level. Otherwise the fender access panel needs removed each time to climb in there to reach..... I may have what I need already but have not busted the p/s pump loose from the air compressor yet. I know there are two Vickers V10, and V20 series pumps in the shop and if the spline counts and rotation are the same they should marry up. Mack used a right hand rotation pump, (viewed from shaft end) and the pumps I have are unknown as to rotation direction. Thanks,
  10. I'm certain there would be a market for what you deemed surplus to your needs. I have room so harbor all kinds of stuff I don't need and until I slow down will continue to do so.
  11. Yup. Heat to get them to release is usually all that's needed and lubricant will take care of the rest. Big secret is the correct adjuster wrench to use; it's not vice grips or channel locks.
  12. If the bad engine's only fault is the cracked block, I'd certainly look to keep it for parts down to the smallest detail. I have a couple of 673 engines that are no good for anything but parts; but when you need it.....
  13. You are planning/hoping to swap a complete engine? I thought rebuilding a donor. If the donor is in good condition it's a lot less frustration to change complete.
  14. A quick search reveals all of the items to mount a pump to either a 500, 501, or Midland are readily available through PAI. I'd still rather uprate from the old 500 series however.
  15. Thermal "shock" is never a good thing on a casting. Most cracks or breaks can be repaired but the filler material is getting exorbitant in price and the procedures to set up for a successful weld are expensive in time.
  16. I've repaired blocks in the past with over a foot in length busted out of them. Takes some time to do it right and the engine block really needs to be bare as the cylinders get hot and can go out of round requiring reboring. Loc-n-Stitch works quite well also. Parts are getting scarce to work with them too on top.....
  17. Block cracked from freezing, or overheated? Internal crack or external. Pm me a photo if external and I'll see if it can be repaired.
  18. Looking to replace the air compressor in my old B-61 which is a Bendix Tu-Flo 500 to a later style with an attached P/S pump. I have a reservoir and steering gear. Also have a belt driven pump but would rather have the more compact, (married) setup from an R model as instance.
  19. Head service kit showed up yesterday as scheduled but I'm a bit too tired to work with it. Just going to chill for the balance tonight and get after it tomorrow.

  21. Most of the CH series I've seen are single frame and relatively light weight. Was around one CL and it was a double rail truck and orginally an E9 powered unit. We repowered it to and E7-427, or 454, (don't remember) several years ago.
  22. That's an idea Tom. She has a "Mother's day" coming up so have a gander what her gift from me will be.

    Yesterday's Run:

Absolutely. However the formal bill of sale(s) needed submitted to CNH, and AGCO for the purchases today. All three tractors are still in the shop at the dealership awaiting front weights for one, and installation of the same for another. The larger cabbed tractor is ready to go recently being cleaned and waxed. I've found the trouble with dealership trades is you really don't want to purchase sight unseen. Lots of shenanigan's take place in the agriculture realms just as in the used car business. As instance this tractor has some scratched paint, and 10 additional hours on the clock than was divulged. While slight in outward appearance, it must be accounted for and price offset in allowance.

    Yesterday's Run:

They gladly offered but the deal needed to be done before the end of day today. They take pretty good car of me in other ways so the genuine friendship works well. The gent whom purchased this also purchased a 100hp cabbed New Holland loader tractor, a 62hp Massey loader tractor, and this New Holland needing to take delivery before the end of year. I think, (but don't know) that a special financing deal was put together. Kind of a large scale farmer in the area I'm told. With me pushing through, there is nothing fudged or ambiguity induced into the transaction. I met the purchaser today and he stuck a $20.00 bill in my shirt pocket telling me he really appreciated my efforts. Not much in the grand scheme but he was under no obligation.
  25. I was up there in Sioux Falls last week and seen several older trucks seemingly in good condition still working or ready to be. Harvest was done and most looked like they'd been used recent.
