  1. There is time to reverse the sale. That dispenser would not soil my clean, white, starched and pressed coveralls I work in would it? Rob
  2. Chevette: I remember those things well. As kids we took a nice little two door car and stuck a 73 400 Chevy and turbo 375 from a Kingswood station wagon in it. We wound up with a driveshaft about 24 inches long when finished. I used the outer perimeter of the original hood, and a busted aftermarket "L88" corvette style hood scoop from a Camaro hood for clearance. The hood was light enough that the hinges were not used, just pins to hold it down. It was difficult to get a radiator to fit into the space due to vertical dimensions and little width. A good portion of the donor parts were from a rusted 75 Chevy "Monza" car that originally had the 262 V8. The original plans were to use it's automatic but it wasn't any good, and the station wagon was rusted badly too. When the fuel tank fell out, my neighbor quit driving it and gave it to me as it ran well. That sucker was a lot of fun for awhile. Someone needed it more than I so I sold and it was wrecked shortly afterward. I moved to V8 Vega projects after that cause Nova cars were excellent donors at that time, and plentiful. Rob
  3. Fifth time was a charm. They have not dropped over the past night and are right on the "oil level" line on the window. I called my supplier for oil dispensing products and priced a "Graco" 5:1 air powered dispensing drum pump, digital totalizer, hose, and 16 gallon roller cart for a drum and it was nearly $800.00!! I said, "Holy Shit man, do you want to sell it or not"? They said sure, and I can have it for $625.80. I really don't need the expense this 1/4 so I went ahead and ordered the stuff, and will pay for it after the first of the year. All the pumps are expensive so really wasn't surprised. It would be unlike me to not "razz" on em a bit however. Good people I deal with, and they've always treated me right. Thanks again, Rob
  4. I'll bet she would go along with calling it my new house. Rob
  5. Yeah, I'm confused. What are ya'll talkin bout????? I've always thought a thigh and mayonaise sandwich is fitting at any time, not just Thanksgiving. Rob
  6. You're not alone. I'm lost too!! Rob
  7. And they refer to a steel rod as am improvement? What nonsense! Rob
  8. I'll shy away from the breasts and any comments. My time is already short. Have a happy Turkey Day everyone. Give thanks for the ability to be together, and to those you cannot see send well wishes, (send their portions to me however). Rob
  9. I'll reconfigure the will before she sees it. Rob
  10. I'll put you up. Got an empty three bedroom house next to my shop. Rob
  11. Just what I need to run across in the short balance of my remaining life. Might look good behind the B-67. Rob
  12. I miss that type of "chatter". Back when I was a kid always had a small portable in the car and listed to truckers on Rt. 66. Got to hear some interested conversations such as you mention. Rob
  13. I've seen several 3/4 ton trucks with the nuts tightened that way also. I'd rather have the correct tools and not butcher the job, or hurt myself, (again). Of course it's usually me taking the damn thing apart again so I don't want things screwed up. Man that truck sure seems to be a deliverance of problems no matter how small, or large. After consulting with the Dr. side of my brain; The diagnosis is simple: Drive Mack, never look back. Rob
  14. I'm going to order a 5:1 ratio pneumatic pump and totalizer for this application. Everything else is air powered and some of this stuff holds a lot of oil. Had you tightened those nuts up on me with a chisel, I would have worked really hard to find forgiveness in my heart for your actions; I think you've spared us both some grief. (I'm still working on the Pete thing). Rob
  15. I realize this question sounds a little off kilter but with the advent of cell phones, nationwide calling plans, internet availability most places, is the CB radio still the necessity it was during the 70's, and 80's? Or is it a left over novelty from those days? Rob
  16. I can't believe that off all the tons, and tons of rock I've had hauled to my shop that has come in a frameless trailer that I've never looked. Always been standing at the rear of the trailer, (off to the side) when they were dumping. This trailer belongs to a customer of mine so I'll have a close look at his setup. One of my trucks, (can't remember which) has a couple of standoffs welded to the 5th wheel plate mounting with about an 1.5" hole in them. Now that I think of it, if a shaft were run through the holes the 5th wheel plate would be level. I've never known what they were for and this sounds like it. Thanks, Rob
  17. I don't want to do what comes naturally, (sounding like an idiot) but I've never seen anyone use a pin when pulling a frameless trailer. This is news to me. What is the purpose, keeping the 5th wheel from tilting during dumping? Do you leave this pin in during road travel? Thanks, Rob
  18. Thanks, but I have to give thanks to Herb for all the off line support and guidance provided. I'm going to order a convertible five, and sixteen gallon pail pump for gear lube later today. Never have had one for the shop. I have several transmissions that are either rebuilt, or I'd like to just drain and refill and bet a quart at at time would go slow going. Gonna tear into the rears tonight or tomorrow to do it all over again....... Rob
  19. Thanks Herb, I forgot to tell you the "CR" seals originally purchased did not fit the hub and they had the Stemco seals on the shelf, so I exchanged for them. All went together with a very thin coating of silicone to the outer seal edge even though it had sealing material on it. I borrowed a seal driver to ensure it went in straight. Gotta get my own set now. Thanks, Rob
  20. Hi David, I've seen those but these threaded plugs thread in on the horizontal plane. I thought about heating and bending a small funnel but the thickness of the oil at 50 degrees precludes if flowing well through such a small orifice. Thanks Rob
  21. In the timeframe you mention: The largest Mack inline six cylinder would be a 672 cubic inch engine. The largest non Mack inline six cylinder would be the 893 cubic inch 1693TA, 3406 Caterpillar engines. The largest Mack V8 engine would have been the 998 cubic inch ENDT-1000/E-9 series. I have no knowlege of a 3408, or 3412 series Caterpillar engines being offered in the R series. Performance exhaust is up to your imagination. There is the option of no mufflers, Riker, Donaldson, and a few others but I'm not akin to aftermarket performance mufflers for heavy truck usage. Most diesel mufflers are very free flowing and are "tuned" for different exhaust note/noise. Rob
  22. Good ole fleabay. Tonight Mr. UPS man brought my new Armstrong 3/4" drive ratchet and it is as advertised. Brand new with tags, and made in the USA. I like it as it has much finer teeth than most I've seen. It looks a lot like a Snap-on brand in the head shape. Rob
  23. I rebuilt the front brakes on my R795 using everything new with the exception of the bearings and shoes as they appear new, or never adjusted to work. I installed new "Stemco" seals, wear rings, "S" cams, bushings, and shims for the same, slack adjusters, brake chambers, hold down hardware, window glass for one side oil hub and a complete hubcap for the other side. I even replaced the bearing retaining hub nuts as someone had tightened them with a chisel! All went together pretty well considering I've never done this kind of work before. Didn't even get to sport a bruise when hanging the drums back onto the spindle as I used a floor jack and blocking to support the weight. I've filled the hubs with 80-W-90 gear lube five times now each time to the bottom of the rubber plug hole. After it drains back filling the cavity of the hub, I filled it again. After the forth time filling it, (about a pint in each side now) I moved the truck fore and aft in the shop about 50 feet three times and refilled the fifth time. There is no leakage that I can see at this point and am hoping that they will top off tomorrow. I'm kinda perplexed as to how they fill them at the factory quickly unless it is under pressure when the stopper is shoved in. Rob
  24. If they sit in front of their terminal with a video cam and streaming video, I will. Then I can watch them "blow groceries", (I like corn kernels and non directional spray) whilst I eat. I'll even feast minus my upper & lower partials, and leave my mouth open while chewing. We can call it "seefood". Takes a little longer that way to puree' to swallow. Can't do it this week though, the big canker sore on my inside of my left cheek is oozing right now, so I'm being fed through a needle. Rob
  25. People make mistakes, that's the human part of our nature. The intelligent come back around. Ones that don't learn from their mistakes are doomed, and repeat them. Rob
