  1. It is the CDL instructors position!! Rob
  2. What series of auxillary transmission was behind the Mack trans? I would think a 83XX series at minimum, or a 12XX series preferably. Sure got a wide spread between upshifts without an auxillary and the Cummins would never be within it's operating parameters. Rob
  3. I'll have to look. I need a couple of other parts also. Rob
  4. Woke up freezing in a pool of sweat this morning and temp has been down since. Thank God for the rubber liner on the matress. Still very groggy as of now. Didn't even rise from bed yesterday to piss. Been doing a LOT of sleeping. Momma stayed home from work to care for me, (and you wonder why I keep her). This nasty deep cough in my chest hurts like hell, (simmilar to alcohol dumped on road rash), but that seems to be subsiding also. Should be back to normal in a couple of days. Rob
  5. I used to practice on soda cans with no problems. Can almost do aluminum foil, but need a smaller electrode, which requires a smaller torch. Rob I must have missed you picking on me. Usually don't miss things like that. I have been sick. Seen 103.7 several times this week. Rob
  6. Sporting a high fever most of this week. Finally under 100, and feel like dogshit on pavement in the Australian "Outback" during the dry season. Most of the pot metal repair "rods" are inherintly weak due to their composition. Just think, if it will melt with the low btu content of propane gas, (92-95,000 btu per gallon), it is not very strong. What I'm saying is that the shock loading, (vibration) that emblems mounted to the hood of a truck endure, will fatigue the repair over time. BTDT. "Tig" welding with a low nickel content rod is best with an experienced welder. This way the repair can be dispersed in a wider area than just the shear plane. Nickel based filler rod is a relatively soft metal that readily bonds to other base metals and materials. You need the proper amount of heat to do the repair; Unobtainable with propane solely, in my opinion. You can use oxy/acetylene torch to do the repair but the heat needed usually distorts small parts. Tig, concentrates the heat in the needed are quickly. Rob
  7. I thought I was listening to the 2nd harmonic of the converstation but could not discerne if I were correct, nor had a strip line filter readily available to be certain, so I apparently posted out of context. I apologize for the replication/repeat of the information presented forth wit. Rob
  8. That solution uses the same mentality that the average AutoZone employee possesses. I don't "darken their doorstep" because you only get paid to do a job once. Re-doing the same job because parts fail prematurely is the reasoning behind that statement. Rob
  9. I'll bet a 37 pound radiator cap would keep that coolant in there. Just place a 30 pound cinder block on top of the 7 pound radiator cap, and your problem is solved. See, the solution is quite easy. Hope you find this solution useful. If it were my B model, I think I'd use the seven pound cap and be done with it. Rob
  10. I get home from work this afternoon and what do I discover on the kitchen table? A nice chrome "shorty" stack for my RL that had none! Had to immediately install and snap a photo that is not very good, (sorry) but the stack really looks like it should be there. I've got to straighten out the discharge flange of the muffler to get a nice stainless Torit band clamp on there but it sure looks great from the floor. That Momma, I think I'll keep her. Rob
  11. I can't give an honest answer on a cartridge type insert filter available from a Mack dealer for a Luberfiner series of filter. I am only familiar with the spin on type filters currently available. Yes, I have found the dealer to be much less expensive for a complete filter change kit than can be bought over the counter at a parts store. Rob
  12. almost any heavy truck parts suppliers can get Baldwin filters. It is true that Hastings is the parent of Baldwin. Both good brands in my opinion. Rob
  13. That will only release the bulk of the air from the cylinder. The bleeder screw is placed at the highest point of the fluid cavity as to facilitate entrapped air rising to that elevation to be removed by "bleeding". As you will remember from elementary physics: A fluid medium, (liquid) cannot be compressed. A gaseous medium, (air in this case) readily compresses to many times it's atmospheric pressure/state. Hydraulic power is based upon the principal that a liquid cannot be compressed. This lack of compression allows the movement of fluid under pressure to perform mechanical work. In this case, ultimately spreading of brake shoes to provide friction against a brake drum. Rob
  14. Always enjoy a light snack before bedtime. Rob
  15. If you washed the interior of the cab: Pull the seats, and mats, to let it dry out. Leave the doors open for a couple of days in a heated building. If not galvanized, those cabs like to rust and although poorly weather and rustproofed as built, they are much worse inside. The dirt, and dust that is under the mat will act like a sponge holding the moisture and accelerate corrosion quickly. Rob
  16. Greg, how did your wheel cylinder ordeal turn out? Get them broken loose? Rob
  17. Finally!! A viable solution to the perplexing problem of banning usage of the outhouse of it's intended purpose to build the fire and smoke my bacon is brought forth unto me! Two horizontally mounted cable pulleys on opposing walls, with a small electric reversing winch using counter wound cabling to pass my hanging bacon strips just over the verticle exhaust system of one of my Macks. Of course I would need to regulate the exhaust plume producing just the right amount of smoke for optimum flavor enrichment. I think it just might work. Rob
  18. Damn, left here salivating over that bacon pie after I've already had my daily allotment of smoked bacon due to diet. Rob
  19. By starting them only at night, I do not expend any of my credits. In these tight budget times, the monitors are not allowed any overtime wages to watch me, so I take advantage....... Being Sunday today they are off also, so anything goes. Rob
  20. I never had a senior portrait. I was supposed to be class of 1978, but that didn't happen until 1984 for me. Really don't look anything like Mr. Van Dyke there neither. Rob
  21. Turbocharged Thermodyne series engines used a 4" exhaust that I've seen and worked with. The non turbocharged engines used a 3.5" exhaust pipe. Sounds like it has been modified through the years. Rob
  22. Well if that won't work then I guess if the examiner is a female you should probably not say "Ass, Gas, or Grass, nobody rides for free neither! Rob
  23. Paul is a good guy just like the rest of us; We are all out for a bit of fun however it is achieved. Dogs no matter what the breed are good on a spit after scraped from the road in winter. Best left for natural sunlight to do the cooking during summer in the name of energy conservation. Rob
  24. Well, I'll be... It sure seems that our pathological bullshitter had a fleeting moment of seriousness to his post...... I can only imagine the problems this setup would present. Rob
  25. Ooooohhhh, I have no comment. Rob
