  1. Don't know about clearance for a newer truck but the TRDL-107, and TRDL-1070 in my trucks were easy to get at as the cabs are raised from the frames quite a bit. The 10, and 12 speeds are very similar to rebuild but you have one more cylinder to contend with. I'd rebuild the selector at the same time as it's a maintenance item and will probably start leaking once it gets full air pressure against it too. The PAI kits are just as good as OEM at considerable less cost.....
  2. I typically email photos to myself then use the desktop computer to upload as I couldn't get my cell phones to work in this application.
  3. Never was an ENDT-676 engine rated at 237hp. That was an ENDT-675 series. I believe all of the ENDT-676 series were good to build additional performance into but some of the ENDT-675 would give problems. Main saddle cracking from block twist was one problem. The ENDT-676 series was Mack's first foray into intercooling to up horsepower ratings with the first ones being about 1977. I remember them new but was just starting to venture into a short tenure of being a truck "mechanic". I ceased that type work full time in 1984 so anything later is just passing knowledge to me. Never was around the four valve E6 series as example. Never have worked on one.
  4. Maybe would should have some current politicians, and justices look into this book: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-BLACK-AFRICAN-AMERICAN-BOOK-ZINE-MACK-B-MORANT-PRIVATE-VINTAGE-CULTURE-Art/233123326208?hash=item36473ba900:g:jWQAAOSwBqZb2PT1 Seen it on ebay looking for a set of drive pins for a Mack flywheel and Spicer clutch after having it machined.
  5. I can see that being advantageous these days but back when that engine/trans combination was a staple on the roadways, it was what it was and accepted. Back then 300hp was a real "hot rod" too. Used to be install AMBAC ADB 155M 169-7 injectors, (which you should have if original) and recalibrate the pump to APE 6BB 110T 6718 +15% and get just shy of 350hp reliably out of an ENDT-676 engine often. If you go with the later water cooled intercooler you could even get a bit more but be careful as the bottom end was stressed at those power levels in the ENDT, or E6 variants. A driver with a cautious foot would have no problems but a real "seat jockey" and the engine wouldn't last.
  6. Company I worked for in 1978 had an R model dump truck with the 864V8 with twin turbochargers. I worked on it a bit but it was repowered shortly after I started as it didn't run consistent and the engine sold to someone for parts. It never blew up, just was getting dragged back to the shop for something and then parts weren't supported very well with extended wait times.
  7. I would agree. The flat top bolt on cover access plate is common to the TR-67 series where the TR-72 series does not have this flat plate. Circled in yellow: TRD-7225 "Unishift": TRD-67 "Duplex" as I don't have a "Unishift" photo: The smaller transmission was common in the single axle tractors in those days. "Monoshift" was the term when behind a gasoline engine, "Unishift" when behind a diesel from what I've seen and read. Photos are from my 1965 B series service manual.
  8. An inexpensive cold water only pressure washer at about 1500psi does a good job of cleaning radiators from the backside without folding over the fins. That is a very often neglected area to keep clean. I like a nine speed behind a "Maxidyne" myself with the rpm's turned up. It seems to still allow you to have the low end "grunt", but not be forced to downshift to keep the rpm's up. In the ENDT days of the Maxidyne, this allowed you to stay with traffic better too. I've never had an engine with a Jacobs brake myself.
  9. I have 11RX24.5 Kumho's on my R-612. Had the truck up to almost triple digits and they are smooth and have worn fine. Still have plenty of tread but going to change them citing age. If for some reason I don't go with the Triangle brand, I would most likely go with another set of these. https://www.otrusa.com/product/11r22-5-16pr-kumho-kma03-tl/ https://www.otrusa.com/product/11r24-5-16pr-kumho-kma03-tl/
  10. They could do a lot better with the sheet metal IMO.
  11. I think it was about 1985 when Eaton took over the injection systems division of AMBAC and things went downhill for support pretty quickly from there. Lot's of older parts support disappeared almost overnight.
  12. I ran and sold Cooper tires in the shop for years. The distributor was 40 miles distant so had the tires in about an hour from ordering them mostly so never stocked any myself. Never had a lot of problems with them and was with them till 2004. The route salesman was telling me a good portion was going to be sourced to chinese production so I basically stopped selling tires altogether.
  13. Double Happiness. Had a lot of fun with a set of those on a 1968 C50 series Chevy farm truck. Farmer had four of those put on the drive axle and it was hard to not bash your head on the cab roof. Spinning them slow and watching you could very easily see three of the four were not assembled correctly. They were removed and replaced by some other "off brand" common around here but it escapes me now. That has been about 12 years ago so improvement have been implemented I'm sure. Ceat was another that was bad, bad, bad for a while. Buddy put a set on his B-61 and you basically needed to have a trailer on or would struggle staying put in the seat at low speed. Both of those brands are still sold locally but I've not heard any more bad, nor good either.
  14. That equates to what I've heard also. I say heard as I've not seen one myself. Never have even heard however of a six speed behind an E-7 engine but again I wasn't around trucks when the engine was introduced. Thanks,
  15. IIRC the E-7 series never had an AMBAC pump. Always Robert Bosch and they are completely different in mountings. I was thinking there was a "Maxidyne" series build in the E-7 however. Probably wrong as I wasn't around trucks much when the engine series came out.
  16. I've talked to a couple of folks whom run the Triangle TR-686 tires and they have been pleased with them. One set is on an older Autocar wrecker so when used is heavy, the other is one a tractor and both parties say they wear decent? I'm going to put a set on my water wagon to as it doesen't see a lot of miles.
  17. That looks like a large pump. Is this a tractor set up for a dump trailer? If so the flow may need to be divided to be in parameters needed. Need the drum dimensions of the winch and sprocket pitch on the winch also.
  18. That's it! "Iron Skillet" was the name. Just the thought makes my head hurt and ears ring.....
  19. Need the numbers from your PTO, Pump, and speed you wish to operate at for sizing a drive. Most of those mechanical winches are either a 34:1, or a 40:1 reduction and I recommend no more than 12fpm of line speed at your chosen engine speed. Also is your plan to chain drive this winch?
  20. What is the capacity in both flow and pressure of your wet line?
  21. Not a lot at all really if the oil is kept at full level. They are a worm gear type and if you pull the rounded cover on the top and look at the bronze gear it will tell you lots. If the edges are sharp, it is heavily worn. The gear should have about 1/16", to 1/8" margin on the edges. The margin is the flat area at the top of the teeth. I always ran GL-4 90wt in my worm gear winches as some of the GL-5 was not compatible with the bronze. Most of that is gone nowadays but I still run GL-4.
  22. I've pulled a lot of rolling dead class 8 trucks up onto rollbacks and carriers w/12K winches. This one will do fine in the application you speak of. GarWood always was a good winch but the other large brands, (Tulsa, Braden, Carco, DP, etc.) were much more widely available in the civilian markets than GarWood ever was. It's been years since they were around and finding someone with new parts access would be difficult I'd think.
  23. "Econodyne" badge on the hood but a "Maxidyne" under it.
  24. Low mount like that is either 16K, or 20K. GarWood is going to be difficult to source new parts for.
