  3. In this instance it's fortunate I don't desire to drive fast. About 62mph works well for me as it's a good balance of speed vs economy. Same way in all vehicles.Rob
  4. Forgot to mention that. I've already purchased a box of filters for the engine and trans; and there is a fuel stop very close. Also an auto parts store within 10 minutes. I buy fuel and air line in bulk and have a portable crimper that is going along for the ride. As good measure I'm even carrying an extra brake can........Biggest source of concern for me is the tires. The truck has been setting for about five years although moved around the property some.   7. I'm planning to take the jaunt out west to retrieve my Rl797L tanker. Will be traveling along the I-80 corridor on the way out and most likely back but may come back via I-70. Been a while since been able to visit some gravesites in St. Louis. Anybody along proposed routes want to meet up along the way? I will be driving out in my Jeep Cherokee, and dragging it behind the RL with a towbar coming back. Gonna try a take a spare tire, tools, batteries, battery cables, bottle jack, radiator hoses and drive belt, along with a heavy jack stand for the enevitable "ahh shit" along the road. If this trip goes alright, I'll prolly drive it out to Macungie for the ATCA show. I'm going to cancel out on the ATHS show as I really don't feel like supporting their venue with the current fiaso in place. I'll update once a plan is finalized as I'm in preliminary stages now. Rob
  8. I believe in the B series trucks, the front brake drums were the same. The hub, or spider bolted to the drum using the same mounting pattern.Rob

  10. That's right, it was Vinton, OH and I couldn't remember that for shit. He stopped by my place once or twice when passing through, dropped his trailer and took a Caterpillar tour. Nice guy to be with and visit. I used to get parts from Dean at Marietta Mack until something went amiss in their working relationship and Dean left.I too used to see Fred post in other forums but haven't in quite some time. Hope all are doing well and it would be nice to hear from them again. Rob
  11. Yes he was. Barry expended the effort to get the website going, contributed greatly to bring us all together. He is very busy and didn't have time for most day to day tasks, hence mine, other other moderators being enlisted.Rob

I don't know much about this new stuff and some of the new members that only check in when they have a problem leave without their questions answered. We don't see this stuff daily so don't have good solid answers.Of couse some folks get tired of helping people that only care to serve themselves also. Rob
  15. Pay very close attention as the brakes on some B models are not like other trucks. They are also getting very difficult to get brake hardware for without modification.Uncle Rob

  17. Yes but I suspect the truck was built in 72, and sold as a 73. They were allowed to deplete existing inventories in the production run on many things. Rob
  18. If a water manometer is placed across a Farr box filter, and an equally sized Donaldson filter, it will still be found the Farr is a lot less restrictive. They are not much quieter in operation than an open intake with no filter however.Rob

  20. Always sad to hear one of the participants being sick. Those treatments can really sap you. Lots of folks tell me it's best to set a pace but not overdue it, and rest a lot.Keep your chin up. Rob
  21. They work great in low humidity applications. Not worth a damn if above 70%.Rob
  22. This one has "Standard Forge" 22,500 axles on Hutchens 9700 spring ride. I've only pulled it empty and it does pull straight. Apparently it was aligned good when built as I'm pretty certain it's not seen much maintenance since. The trailer to me has a "home built" type look to it, but is very strong. The crossmembers are spaced for planks on the treadways, but this one has 3/16ths steel treadplate with 2X2 angle stood up for spacing. Some of the plate is thinning from rust, and a couple have small holes, so it will most likely be replaced.Rob

  24. In my opinion yes, by far. Generator specifications called for Farr units when noise was not a concern. They were the worst as far as dampening the incoming air noise where Donaldson, and the other competitors excel. Farr brand had the largest filter media available and exposed to the air stream and used porous tubes to increase the filter area even more.They fell out of favor as the engines were starting to become quieter in operation.
