Congratulations and good luck with the truck. Having the brakes done already is a huge benefit. It is a neat looking trucks. We have a 1941 Type 55 open cab. It needs brake work or we would be running it around. The Macks in Basking Ridge are a private collection owned by Gary Mahan. It is well worth the visit if you have never gone. A donation in the $50-100 range is good. When you see what you get you might want to give more. Mike

Macks at Earlville
yarnall replied to Superdog's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
The black B model with the integral sleeper was at the 2000 ATHS show in Valley Forge PA. My father got talking to the owner, Bill Abbott from Iowa, who said he was looking for a single axle tank trailer. My father mentioned one that a friend, Phil Mack, owned. They went to look at it and he bought it for $500. The B model had been hauled to the show on a step deck. They drove to Gilbertsville, hooked to the tanker and loaded the whole rig on the step deck using the dock at the local tractor dealer. There was a story about this in Double Clutch from back then. I will try to find it. Bill sent pictures of the trailer in progress. He really put a lot of work into it. I had wanted to buy the trailer to pull behind my Fleetstar, but my father wouldn't hear of it. Mike -

I've got one listed in the for sale section listed as "R686 parts truck". I was unable to copy the link. It is pretty rough. Mike

Congratulations. Where do you live? What do you need? There is a big fire flea market in Allentown PA this Sunday. Not a whole lot of older stuff there these day, but there is always some goodies. Under the E model registry thread there is a number for John Chalmers. He has some E model parts. My father has a big E, a type 55. It only needs brake work. Welcome to the forum. Mike

All of the trucks at this place look better in pictures than in person. I kept looking at the pictures of the one V model thinking I should buy it. We went back up to look at it and it wasn't nearly as nice after the snow had melted. I haven't seen the R model without the snow. You can see the big galvanized patches on the fenders. I have looked at prices for CJ bodies. Way more than I want to pay. I will buy floors and rockers for the Scout if we can get it running(and tires). Mike- I know where you can get a real cheap 1951 CJ3A. It needs a motor and a transmission and a body and floors. Mike

Have you considered writing articles for Double Clutch? It would be great to share some of your knowledge with ATCA members. Mike

The ATCA National Show is held annually in Macungie Memorial Park on Father's Day Weekend. The dates for this year are Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20. Most of the trucks are gone by Saturday night. Macungie Park in located in the middle of Macungie PA just off of PA Rt 100 across from the Bear Swamp Diner. You can find registration information at www.antiquetruckclubofamerica.org. The link to the registration form is in bold letters in the middle of the page. It is consistently one of the best weekends/weeks or the year for me and well worth the 18 mile drive. You better not come if you don't like Macks though. Mike

Yuengling bests Sam Adams, now No. 1 craft brewer in the nation
yarnall replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
I always have a case or two of Yuengling Lager around. It is how I get my father to work on my stuff. Maybe if they were sober they could have gotten it running. Mike -
I don't look that close. A 6 cylinder so an RD450 or 501. I have a V200 and 2 Fleetstars with 549's in them and one cut off.
-
It is actually a GMC. And no, I did not buy it. It will probably get cut up along with 3 V model and 2 R model Internationals. If I had somewhere to go with them I would buy a couple of them. Of you know of anyone who needs parts let me know. They still have the U model. It is too rough for the asking price. The rest are all scrap price. That is too high for them so they will go to scrap. Except for this one. It is coming to my house too. I never learn. Mike.

The new curator is Mike Kitsock from the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society in Shenandoah. He and his crew (Pete, Blackie...) have done a great job with their museum and their collection. Mike never worked for Mack, but their collection leans toward Macks. My AC pumper is on display their right now. I am also a life member. If you have never been to their Museum it is a good destination but make sure they will take you to the warehouse where there are about 60 other trucks owned by the museum and members. I don't know if they will actually take non members but membership is cheap. They are restoring a steel dash R model as their transport truck. My father gave them a nice cab for it. I gave them the 1941 ALF tillered ladder that my father's B85 was made to pull. I was never going to do anything with it. Anyway, Mike is a good guy. I spoke to him yesterday. He said he has been at the Mack museum since March so it is no surprise. Mike

Not too long ago I discovered the miracles that are facebook groups. There is a group for everything. One that I find particularly entertaining is Abandoned and Neglected Vehicles. People post pictures of junk that has been rotting away for decades. They drag them out of the woods and claim they are going to fix them up. Well I never needed any encouragement to do this. A few months ago when I went to look at that U model in Kutztwown, I fell in love with some of the other junk they had around there so I bought them and had them hauled home. It was probably a big mistake. The scout doesn't have any floors left, but it turns over. We replaced the coil, points and condenser, but still not luck. The CJ doesn't have floor and both the engine and transmission are stuck. Mike

Getting ready to say goodbye
yarnall replied to Superdog's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Wow it really did get dark. I need a roll back like that. I have been paying to have stuff hauled around this winter. I should have bought that R model out here that someone tried to flip. What are the new owner's plans? Parts trucks? Restore? Inventory? I had bought a bunch of trucks in the past to save from the scrapper. Unfortunately that had to slow down dramatically after the township tagged all the cars and trucks I had sitting outside. I hate to see old trucks scrapped, but I don't have anywhere to go with them. Cost can add up quickly even if they are only a few hundred a piece. Did i miss something? What was the incident that made you more selective about prospective adoptive parents/ buyers? Mike -
Old and New

I did a similar thing at Trucktoberfest last year. I found a hole in the line up of ABF's new trucks and put my AC in the middle. It looks tiny. Mike -
