  1. They certainly are worth something, but not $1275 a piece because it did not sell. I paid $350 a piece for two. I paid $1000 for one, but it is a Mack/Childs soda acid extinquisher off a 1925 AC pumper. Some people said I was spending too much on it. I hope the two that fxfymn saw sell for $1200 were older or in way better condition. Mike
  2. Great save. Can you post pictures of the KB 11 and KB 12? I am trying to buy a KB 10 and KB 11 in working order. Thanks, Mike
  3. I think there are a lot of factors feeding into why we are not seeing some of the trucks from years ago. Aging of the collecting population is part of it. Some of the older trucks end up in "museums" and don't get brought any more. The collector gets a new piece that he either likes more, is easier to drive/transport, more reliable and/or easier to fix/find parts. Death of the collector and the truck ends up in the family's hands who do not want to get rid of it, but also are not into the show seen. Unfortunately some of these trucks have deteriorated to the point that they are no longer functional either from lack of funds, lack of interest, inavailability of parts or knowledge to fix them. I remember a lot of the trucks that get posted from Macungies past. Where are they? Mike
  4. Cast aluminum. It is pretty heavy.
  5. The kit from Eastwood has three things in it. First you pour in something to eat away the rust, slosh it around for so long then rinse with water. Next you pour in an etching chemical and slosh it around. I think it gets rinsed again with water and blown out with air, but maybe not. Then you pour in the coating and roll the tank until everything is coated and it starts to harden up. Then let it sit with air going through it to dry. I think we put a fan up to the open. The whole process to a good part of a day. The tank on my AC has a large opening that I could get an arm in to get the rust out. I would try it on another tank, but Marco Radiator is affordable. I had them do a couple tanks for me and they are maybe $300-$450 depending on the tank. They did the saddle tank on my LFT, but I don't remember what it cost. They also have re-cored a couple radiators for me and for about $900 each. I was very happy with them.
  6. My father and I coated the inside of the tank on my AC. It had been coated in the early 70's when the truck was done, but it was coming apart. We wire-wheeled the inside of the tank then used two kits from Eastwood. Eastwood is right around the corner from my house so that made it easy. My other tanks I had done because I couldn't get inside of them. The company I use is Marco Radiator in Shenadoah PA. They did a great job. They pick up and deliver, but I do not know if they go that far. We did the AC tank ourselves, because they steam clean the inside and we not going to guarantee the paint and I did not want to have to repair and gold leaf the outside. Mike
  7. I went to the Carlisle truck nationals once and was disappointed. It was almost all newer pick-ups with fancy paint jobs and big stereos. There were about 50 new big trucks. Maybe a dozen antique trucks. I don't remember any antique big truck stuff in the flea market. I went to an automotive flea market in Allentown this weekend which is part of the Carlisle. There actually were a couple gauges off a CF and some Mack firetruck owners manuals, but nothing I needed. It was almost all car stuff. The spring melt is in Allentown in April each year(12 nad 13 this year). It is put on by Union Historical Fire Society. It is a great flea market and I have bought a lot of stuff there, two Mack extinquishers, Mack emblems, fittings, uniforms, hand tools. You are a little far away, but it still might be worth it. Also Pennsylvania Pump Primers has a big flea market at their annual Muster in Harrisburg the second Saturday in July. I will keep my eyes open. Mike
  8. I hope it doesn't sell because I don't want them to cost that much. I bought one for $350 at the Spring Melt in Allentown about 3 years ago.
  9. The new owner plans to paint it candy-apple red. I begged him not to. He promised me the first chance at it if he did not do anything to it. I am sad to see the fender off of it. That means they are working on it. Mike
  10. I tried to buy that, but it was already sold when I got to Smith's. In my opinion it was the nicest truck they had. The new owner would not sell it to me. Mike
  11. Raph G Smith Inc was a horse hauler and furniture moving company in West Chester PA. They closed their doors a year ago and have liquidated thier fleet. The oldest of their working fleet was a pair of 1985 MH Mack. Old enough for antique license in PA. I bought one and Firemack bought the other. Here are some pictures of the others. Michael Yarnall
  12. How about this one? I took the picture at Macungie several years ago, but do not have any information. Maybe you already have it listed. Mike
  13. That is one for Vinny.
  14. Found this on Ebay. Too expensive for me. Mike http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-MACK-FIRE-DEPARTMENT-FOAM-FIRE-EXTINGUISHER-/171217697847?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27dd5ebc37#ht_400wt_1224
  15. Sad to hear you sold your trucks. At least they went to a good home. Now you can hunt for something else. Mike
  16. There are 4 Big Horns for sale in the latest issue of Wheels of Time. The add says two of them are not real. I am not a Dodge guy, but I would love one of them. Doug Maney has one. Mike
  17. The is an AB city service ladder truck in the Mack Museum. It was donated by the Peckville? PA fire company to America on Wheels, but is not on display there. I drove it from a show at America on Wheels in Allentown to the Mack Museum. That was a fun ride. Gary Mahan has a Restored AB pumper that the hose bed has been converted to seating. It is from Steeleton, PA, the same town my AC is from. You should contact him about the engine parts you need. Mike
  18. Here is a link to a conversation about Smith's H60T. They also had 6 H61's and the 3 H613's. I have their only remaining H613T. I will try to post a picture. Brad Wyke? in the Carolina's has several H61's. He is the guy restoring Evil's F model. He wrote a great article about them for Wheels of Time several years ago. I don't think it is legal for me to post it. Mike http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/31980-h-60t-in-australia/page-1
  19. The show is Friday and Saturday. Trucks start arriving Wednesday. There are only a few left on Sunday. It will take all of Friday and Saturday to look at the 600 or so trucks and the huge flea market. Firday night is the Family Picnic which draws several hundred people. There is more food than can be eaten, a band and drawings for prizes. There is not a cost, but they ask for donations. Mack provides a bus which goes to the Macungie Plant for self guided tours. I don't know if they have a bus, but there is the Mack Museum and Customer Care Center near by. There is also the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown which has several Macks on exhibit along with lots of cars. If you are around a while you can go to see some private truck collections. If you are bringing family there is lots of sight seeing in Philly about an hour away or Dorney Park amusement park a few miles away. Hope this helps. I'm sure others can add more. FWD is our resident "Julie the cruise director". Maybe he will add something. Mike
  20. I'll be there. I wouldn't miss it. The featured vehicles are emergency vehicles so I'll bring some fire trucks. Mike
  21. The is an R tanker in eBay.
