John Haines/Hoppenville Pa. 2012 Show...Date?
yarnall replied to 1958 F.W.D.'s topic in Truck Shows and Events
Haines' show is tomorrow(Oct 20). The weather is supposed to be nice. He has a bunch of nicely restored macks to looks at: 4 AC's, 2AB's, and F model, a B61 and a B87 and lots of other neat stuff. Mike -
The tank in my AC and 405 A both had screens in them that got clogged and would not let fuel out of the tank. I cut the screen off of the A model and cleaned the screen on the AC. My 85 LS had 2 Napa electric fuel pumps on it when gotten. I replaced them with one and that worked well until the oil pan got filled up with gas at macungie this year. I am going to put a pressure regulator in the line to try to avoid this in the future. My A model had an aftermarket electric fuel pump which was rebuilt and worked for a short time them we replaced it with a Napa electric fuel pump. I did take tanks off of all three and had them cleaned. The tank on the A model was so bad I had to have a new one made. My father's B85 also uses a electic Napa fuel pump. They cost about $100 and eliminate the concern of the mechanical pump. We are more concerned with them running than being original. I'm sure you have already checked, but make sure there is not a clogged fuel filter in the line somewhere. It is amazing how muuch fuel it takes to keep a 707 running. Mike

I can't deliver it, but Ray could bring it to you. Let me know if you are serious. The exporter wants me to put a fuel pump on it. I don't know how and if I wanted to work on the truck I would not be selling it. Mike

Mack crew cab-fire truck
yarnall replied to DodgeMan's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
It is probably an 85LS 3 door sedan. That would be a lot of work. Mike -
Cab is back on the frame.

It looks great. Will the fenders be black or maroon? Did that machine have any trouble lifting the cab? Maybe you should have had something a little bigger. Mike -

I work right down the road from Triad in Limerick. I love seeing the trucks they are working on when I pass by on my way to work. Occassionally there will be a B model or an Autocar poking out of the garage door. -
One last chance on this. An exporter contacted me and if noone on here wants it it will be going over seas. It is a shame to see it go, but hopefully it will get a new lease on life. 1970 R685ST. 237, 5 speed, tandem axle tractor. Had is running a few years ago. Rack is stuck on the fuel pump. Green dash. Cab and doors are very rusty. Hood is good. Only has 4 tires on the rear now. Can send other pictures. $1500. Also have rusty but running 1975 R685ST. $2500. Gerhart's Bone Yard
yarnall replied to yarnall's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
There are people on here who know better than I do. Maybe one of them will add some information. The business is on the family farm. The main part of the business is heavy equipment, buying selling repairing. I think he is still a dealer in Northwest cranes or some brand. I had heard he was a Euclid dealer at one time. They do some heavy hauling. They buy and sell old trucks and maybe newer trucks too. You can check out their web site. Search Gerhart Equipment. You can see what they have for sale. Brent, Did you buy it? I've been taking pictures of that truck for years. They will haul it or contact Ray on here. A mid sized tow truck would do the job. The BX is my favorite truck in the yard followed by the A model with the Windsor Asphalt sign. He gave the signs to John Haines who currently owns Windsor Service. The guy who drove the golf cart in the picture is taking the signs off. I think they should take the whole truck and restore it. Mike -

The trucks are for sale. I have heard that they do not sell parts. Some of the trucks had prices on them, but most did not. Mike -

Here is my favorite part of Mack Day. 85 LS A model It only let me post 2 pictures, but that is better than none. Mike

I'm not a big fan of people getting in my trucks without asking. A lot of people think that just be cause it is a fire truck they can do what they want. I can't tell you how many kids ran right and jumped on my AC pumper at the ATHS show in Springfield. On Sunday of the Macungie show we got back to the park there were several people in the cab of my Transtar with kids walking around on the frame. By the time we got parked they had moved on and the kids were in the back seat of my 85LS. I confronted the mother who was very rude. When I went to start the truck oil was pouring out of the dipstick tube. Someone had turned on the fuel pump and filled the crank case with gas. We shut it down right away and had to go home for a lowboy to haul it home. I drained the oil, but have not had it running since. The fire trucks don't have locks and the AC doesn't even have a cab so I don't really have a way of keeping people out. Mike

Mack Trucktoberfest - Fri. Oct 26 & Sat. Oct 27

The lft is still at the shop. I saw my mechanic at Mack Day. He said the fuel pump is out getting calibrated. After he gets that back it will go on then the compressor and it is ready to run. We will put the.front end on it at home. I hope to have it at Macungie next year. Mike -

I'll be in there both days. Hope to trailer the AC pumper with my father's Superliner and drive.a.couple others up. I live close enough to sleep in my own bed. Mike -
My thought is it does not harm except costing a little more and if it helps why not. Don Schumaker was an engineer at Mack and now is Curator of the Mack Museum so his credentials are not too bad either. I, myself, do not know, but I am willing to spend the couple dollars just in case. There are sources for leaded fuel and no ethanol fuel, but not near me or I would be buying it. Mike
-
I'll be there with several trucks. I have the AC and F715 signed up so far, but will probably add a couple more. My parents will be there with their superliner. Back to the oil filter issue, my mechanic said he has some. If that is the case I will get you one. Mike

I was talking to Don Schumaker from the mack museum about the Ranger truck from Berwick. They had had the engine out and got it running. I am not very mechanically inclined so I do not remember the specifics, but after a few month the engine was stuck solid again. They pulled it apart and found something stuck. I don't remember what, but he felt it was because of the lack of lead as a lubricant. He recommended that I add lead to the fuel in all of my old gas engine vehicles. Since that I have. Like I said, I am not a mechanic so I have nothing to ad to it. Mike

I looked at the web site and the R model is a canopy cab. It only has two doors. http://www.firehouse.com/apparatus/10645519/5022-engine-in-town-response. Pretty neat looking truck. I like their chevy brush truck too. Mike

Finding Antique Mack Value
yarnall replied to eruell's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Unfortunately there is not a good site to find the value of old commercial trucks. Value varies greatly depending as you would suspect depending on year, make, model, condition, rarity, desirability... I look on Ebay, Craigslist,Truck Paper, Wheels of Time Classified Ads and other sources for similar trucks to try to get and idea, but it is often impossible to find the exact same vehicle. If you post a description and a bunch of photos I'm sure you can get a million opions on this web site. Mike -
Yep, 9.00X20. You can put 10.00X20 on it. It might look better that way. I have a type 55 that came with 8.25X20. My father wants to put 9.00X20s on it. It would make it look a little better. We will make that decision when we redo the brakes. Mike
