  1. Lots of good reasons. What's the motor? IH RD 501? Mike
  2. I remember. My girlfriend asked if I knew who it was. I told her people like fire trucks. I suppose we were cruising along about 45. The speedometer is not accurate. I wish it was a faster truck. My father was going to haul the AC out too, but the screen in the fuel tank was clogged and it wouldn't keep running so we left it home. Why didn't you bring the FWD? Mike
  3. This is B85f1001. The first B85 fire truck made.
  4. What do the R and E stand for?
  5. George, Thanks for being such a good friend. Vlad, The truck is a 1950 LJT1D. I think they call the engine an END672, but I am not sure of that. It is one number off of some familiar number. Ron Smith on here would know. It was his truck. Mike
  6. Hopefully her leg will heal. I'll check my parts truck and reply to your PM. Mike
  7. My L model with a Lanova has been at the mechanics for a year and a half. Parts have been nearly impossible to find. The truck came with a lot of new and used parts. The new parts were gotten from John Chalmers, but he is no longer in the parts business. I was told I had everything needed to put it together, but some of the parts were too worn to use, others were not right and more problems were found the deeper he got. The NOS bearing were not right for the engine because the center bearings are narrower. They had to be cut. We had to have valves made. It needed one liner, but that came with the truck. A parts motor was bought from Gerharts which was a big help, but it still had some of the same problems that the original engine had. Now the search is on for fuel pump and compressor parts. I would not have bought the truck if I had known all of this ahead of time. I'll be afraid to drive it once it is together. Good luck, Mike
  8. If it's nice that sounds cheap. I'd love one. Mike
  9. I love the V model. Does it have a 549 in it? That would be a great "Sunday go to church" truck. Can't wait to see better pictures of the combine too. Mike
  10. The owner of this truck called me on Friday about this truck. Unfortunately is it out of my price range. I would love to have it. He only lives a few miles from me and invited me to come and see his collection. He owns the B67 Allied moving tractor trailer that has been posted on here in the past. He bought that from the place I got my A model and L model fire trucks. He tells me he has several AB's and AC's. I'll take pictures and report back. Mike
  11. There was an L model cab for sale at Macungie. They were asking $3800. It was in primer and looked pretty good. It didn't sell. It belongs to Wayne King from Owen Sound, Ontario. He also had a B model cab in primer there. I think he was asking $2500 for that. I bought a replacement MH bumper off of him. How about some pictures of Hornish's restored trucks? Mike
  12. I'll step in here. It is "aerodynamic". Nothing to do with an arrow. It is the way air moves around things. Also, there is no A in tomorrow. Good work getting dirty though. Mike
  13. The picture from the back gave it away. I'm headed up on Saturday for it. Thanks for the lead. Just kidding. Good luck with it. Mike
  14. I've only seen one B67 with the big radiator. I don't remember if it had the concave cab or not. The options are independent. Value without pictures is tough $1500-8000. How is that for a nice big range? The big radiator would increase the value a little to someone like me and probably you. Mike
  15. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1981-MACK-TRUCK-/251095433361?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item3a76744091 Mike
  16. If it is a single frame the cab and chassis is probably in the 9500 pound range. As for batteries, just a heavy 12 volt battery. One will do it if it is not stuck. There is an L model tow truck for sale by me that I keep thinking I am going to buy. I keep buying other things though. Mike
  17. Great find. How about some pictures of the other stuff around it. You can go into "edit" and delete the unwanted posts. Mike
  18. That truck is pretty cool. It looks pretty complete. $3500 doesn't sound too bad. $2500 cash might buy it. It should have a EN401 in it. I'd put some batteries in it, run a little gas tank to it and see if it runs. It is probably positive ground. Having a fire extinquisher handy is a good idea and if you pour gas in the carb remember pour then crank. My father caught his had on fire a month ago when not following those instructions. You are probably close on the weight of the truck, but I'd bet that body weighs several thousand pounds. Good Luck, Mike
  19. Looks great. I really like the G models. But them I like most Macks. Hopefully I can come and see you collection some time. It is far away though. Mike
  20. That's creepy.
  21. My dad has an R685 with a stuck rack. We keep a board handy and the hood up when we start it so we can shut it down. We can move it around on its own power if we are very careful. Mike
  22. Post away. It is a beautiful truck. I wish it was in my price range. I hope it goes to a good home and stays in the country. I'd love to see it in person some time. Mike
  23. A B42 should have a 401 flat head. Mike
  24. My father's B85 with a 707 gets about 4, but it is just a tractor. He also has a B422, but it is not road worthy. It would do better than the 707, but not great. Buy it just for fun. Mike
