  1. I've never seen them in any Iowa 80 flyers. I've been looking for some of those for my Superliner.
  2. Wow the jacket and the tach are both really good treasures to find. That's awesome!
  3. I got $160 a ton for a load of scrap last week up here in my area. So if I had to take an educated guess on this one I'd say if you pay more than $200 for it not knowing what kind of shape one of those is in you are paying too much. I sold one with a new set of bearings a new oil pump remaned turbo power steering and water pump about 4 or 5 years ago for $ 2500 and I didn't even come close to breaking even on it.
  4. Here's how I ran mine I made most of it, except the 6" stacks are Lincoln Chrome.
  5. I don't think those heads have valve seals either. If it isn't burning oil don't touch it. And if it isn't being used much or really worked ant Mack V8 slobbers fuel out through the split in the exhaust manifolds. Even E9's. it just looks like oil. It's nature of the beast.
  6. I've been going to have the heater motor housing chromed in my Superlimer. About a year ago I bought the housing and motor assembly from Mack because my original has rust and I didn't want to try and get it chromed, and I also want to chrome the trim rings around the windows in my doors. But the nearest chrome plating place to me is about 100 mile drive so by the time I take them down to them and pick them up plus the cost of chroming them I'm looking at some big coinage. I picked up some car parts for my brother a week or so ago at a powder coater close by he can do a powder coating that looks so close to chrome it's unreal. Told me about $80 to do the window rings, I'm thinking about letting him try the heater housing first and see how it turns out. And then over the winter I might try the rings. I have a bunch of the old white metal Mack and Superliner hood emblems I definitely have to send them for chroming if I do them.
  7. I agree leave it original. Maybe pull the heads off and get a machine shop put a few guides in them and just touch them up a bit, but I'd leave the V8 in it.
  8. Where is Lilitz located at in Pa.? I wouldn't mind checking this place out. Looks like they have a lot of real cool old cranes and equiptment. There prices are a little highland there website but I'd still like to go and browse.
  9. Took this pic north of London, Ont. Canada on my Saturday road trip. I guess they had 6 inches of rain Friday night into Saturday morning. The tracks on this big Northwest in this pit are almost totally submerged. They'd need a boat to get to it Monday morning if they planned on digging.
  10. Nice they should have painted the motor too. If you could get it for that price it wouldn't be a bad buy.
  11. I missed the boat on a tandem tractor with a 903 Cummins in it it was good and solid sold for $3000. I was holding out trying to get it cheaper. I know where there's a single axle with a wrecker on it 413 gas, and I have a guy working on getting a tandem with a wrecker on it kinda right from the source, he told me the other day that we're getting really warm, I don't really need it but I don't want to see it go to scrap or go some where it will end up sitting in the weeds rotting down either so if we can get our hands on it we're going to, be a cool conversation piece at shows.
  12. That's a very clean sharp looking ride. I had a 92 with an E9. I'd say your idling issue is probably tension on your return spring, like 84 Superdog said. Yours will be a Robert Bosch inline P7100 pump like mine I run an extra return spring on mine one on both sides of the pump. The shaft on your governor should go straight through the pump and have your throttle linkage on the left and mine has an arm for something else on the right side of the pump, im thinking it night be for the hand throttle on an MH, I put a return spring on it too because without it mine wanted to idle too fast too.just don't use too heavy of a spring it'll make it too stiff. the air throttle is nice when it works , pain when it doesn't. when I put my engine from my MH in my Superliner I took the air throttle off and put a cable on it, much easier.
  13. Hunt down Fullfuel I heard a month or so ago from one of his Quebec friends that he had his hands on one of the actual trucks used in the movie. Don't know if this is 100% true but I'm sure he might be able to help you out.
  14. I got a spec sheet for you Ryan I just got to get some one to scan it for me and send it to you.
  15. Yes 84 superdog hit the nail on the head there.
  16. Yeah I agree I you treat an E9 with resect it will is very efficient and will last you a long time. As for parts if you have patience to look you can find anything you need or with modern technology someone can make anything you can't get from Volvo. By far the best engine Mack made. The guy from NY told me at MATS that I had a far superior setup with my E9 with the Robert Bosch injection Mack E9 to any Cat. And there are alot of good pulling Cats everywhere. I've pulled up the Niagra Escarpment grossing close to 140,000lbs with my E9 450 And the only thing I know that is done to it is the fuel plate is slid up as far as it will go and a slight adjustment on the screw on the aneroid valve, and I have climbed it a good 10mph faster than 600 Cats. And I got as good of mileage as any of them. As far as cost of fixing try working on any of these new engines. I drive a 560 ISX Cummins in. W900L KW and every hill I climb I wish I had my E9 plus the Cummins is always in the shop costing big $ to fix. Give me a n E9 any day.
  17. I put Lincoln Chrome pipes on my Superliner this past winter. Got them from 4 State Truck Parts. I think if I remember right 6" 7' miter cut ran me around $250 each so with Ups to Detroit, exchange on the money and duty at the border I about $680 invested.
  18. I saw Alex's truck a couple weeks ago at the drag races at St Thomas a couple weeks ago it is a very sharp lookin R model. I see you have a name on the door now Alex. Looks good.
  19. Be cool to get your hands on one of those cabs do a project .
  20. Looks pretty good from the pic I'd go for it.
  21. Saw this fine looking unit in my travels this morning where I was working.
  22. A stock E9 tubo is the same for a 450 as a 500 it will work. 89 to 95 turbo should be the same. if it were pre 85 and had the flange type couplers and air to air piping I would say no. but even if you are going from 89 Ambac to 95 Robert Bosch and you pump is stock and tubos are stock it'll work. the air to air should work too. MH RW CL all same air to air. with an E9.
  23. Get rid of the air throttle and switch it to a cable. Much simpler and way more reliable and responsive. I switched my E9 450 with inline from air to cable. air is ok when it works, but can be too tempermental.
  24. I've priced E9 pumps from Northwest Truck and I know price wise on them are almost equivalent to the price of a new set of Dale Francis headers. But I don't know what the price of an 865/866 pump, I sold a good used take off pump a few years ago for like $300 -$400. You might be able to pay for a good part of the headers out of that though.
