BAD DOG

I haven't had one in a truck for quite some time but they were common till about 10 or 15 years ago. E logs and satellite units took the place of tachographs. I have a brand new tachograph in the box in my collection of goodies up in the shop. Anyone looking for one?

the guy that does my safeties a percentage of brake lining left on the form and the only thing he ever gauges is the tires. I guess it depends how fussy they want to get. When I'm working in a truck getting it ready to safety I've always just done a visual inspection on drums and if they look clean no visual cracks or ridges cut in them I'll re use them otherwise I replace and If I change drums I always use new lining. Bearings I check end play but don't take the hubs off unless end play seems excessive or a seal is leaking. But if you want to get technical and go by the MTO's big brown book you need to take everything apart and inspect and drums need to be gauged. But I know very few mechanics that actually do.

Congrats, good luck with the new job. I was talking a while back about jumping ship too and last Friday I closed another page in my career scrapbook. The construction company I've been at for almost 8 years now got to the point with me that I just couldn't prolong my agony anymore. This year started late and ended early with only about 20 full weeks of work in this year and a lot of thought at how I could make things work I decided to leave the construction business and go back trucking full time 52 weeks a year, I started with some refresher training this week at the new place doing all flatbed work mainly (steel) coils, pipe ,tubing, plate and beams. And lots of oversized loads. Most of the stuff I've done before but it's been a while and going to take a bit of getting re acquainted with things. Hopefully staying local like they promised. Hauled a few loads of 75' long pipe this week with a trombone trailer, kinda new but similar to pulling a long float with a long piece of Equiptment in a lot of ways, going to be doing lots of it and unfortunately a lot of tapping too depending on weather. Pays percentage so days can be bad or really great but they are really busy and doing the math things should never get much less that one of my better paying weeks at the old job, plus they have a full benefit plan uniforms an boot allowance. All adds up to potentially be much better.hopefully things work out for the better. I miss the old job a bit and the guys I worked with there, but in the long run it just wasn't paying the bills and I've found myself falling farther behind each year. Old boss never said much the last week never wished me well thanked me or anything and I felt I was fair with them by waiting till the slow season to bail on them and giving a fair notice, and I know he's going to have trouble finding drivers let alone good drivers for next year because he does every year and this year he lost both myself and my brother who were in the three of 10 drivers and I think before spring he's going to loose 2 more guys for the same reason. But the bottom line is a guy has to bs e able to make a living. Hopefully the change will allow me to and start getting caught up on everything I've gotten behind on. I hope I made the right choice.

About 7 years ago a car hit my MH head on recovery and towing charges added up to over $10,000 ! They towed the tractor about 20 miles to their storage yard. Accident wasn't even my fault. Luckily the insurance covered it. Yeah I'd say that towing company took you! Especially if the two losers they sent out to do the job didn't have a clue what they were doing.

Yeah I hear you. I go to work a lot of mornings with a Tim Hortons coffee in one hand a lunch pail in the other only to go home and eat my lunch. Or wait around the shop till 10 o'clock when someone calls and needed salt or stone yesterday. It gets to be a long winter and spring. And it doesn't take long to get yourself on the wrong side of the eight ball being their yo yo, but it's sure tough trying to get caught up in the summer. I figured out the other day with my hours I worked like a fool this summer , floating driving tri axle locally on tar and chip during the day and getting sent to Toronto for tar at noon and working late into the night or doing the tar during the early morning and then working local all day, all my overtime if I got overtime after 40 like a normal job would my income would have been $10,000 more than it is that pays the rent on the house the boss rents in the keys for one month. Not saying he doesn't deserve a winter vacation but, they cry the blues in the summer when they can't find good drivers in the busy season and when things drop off they kick everyone to the curb.

Good luck with the new job. I too work construction it's very seasonal depending on the year. I've been really slow the past couple weeks and am tired of having half the year slow period while the bosses vacation in the Florida Keys. I've been looking into other jobs and figure a bit of a pay cut and work steady with overtime pay. I think you've got the right idea.

Only got a couple inches up here in the banana belt of Canada, which most melted quick because the ground wasn't froze yet. But this morning the temps and wind changed their toon and everything is sure tight today!

The Rhino Lining works a friend of mine did his tanks on his Western Star Low Max a few years ago because they were leaking so he got patches welded on them then Rhino Lined the tanks and wrapped them in Stainless Steel leaving the ends exposed they look pretty good and the Rhino Lining keeps the aluminum sealed up and the ends from being beat up. I was thinking if coating the back ends of mine because they're pitted a bit

Yeah they both look good for the money. It's just a long way to go to get them. It would cost more to go out and get them or get them shipped then you paid for both of them.

Not sure if you can get a new one but Vickers made the pumps for 866's I posted a photo and part # a few weeks ago. I have a used pump and reservoir that would work for a core if you need it, let me know.
