  1. In all honesty with 34k rears I think your asking for major problems esp going to pull a log trailer and dump trailer. But I do not know alot about them either.
  2. As I run the highway it is air ride or nothing. Now next truck if I can order one or depending on what I get I want to put that Ar2 hendrickson on. Mainly for the even weight distribution that you just can't quite get with airride. When I find scales I can sit and work with like at Grove in Shady grove, Pa when axling out my front drive will be over 20k and the lift and rear drive under 20k. There are some states like Ne that will axle you out on the scale. Also it gets me the off road ability and more of an air ride ride. But with the air ride I have no problems off road .
  3. With great power comes great responsibility. Nice to get up the mountain quicker. You burn less fuel with the bigger engines as they do not work as hard. Braking well that falls under the catergory of responsibility
  4. It is hit or miss. Weight plays a major factor. use to do that every day. Now if we sit the weekend I'll drop it to the ground and make it ready to pull out from under incase the truck doesn't start or have a problem and need to repower.
  5. Thats true. But it is nice to be able to keep up with traffic grossing 140k plus. Or pull the mountain and only drop 2 or 3 gears and maybe top it still in high range. But back in those days those where the king of the hills.
  6. I got questioned this morning in the West Memphis coops. asking if the truck is rated at 20k on the steer. Said yeah and truck is certified. Thought he was going to go out and look but never did. Said they had a guy come in last week with 20k on the steer and truck wasn't rated. Think they made him unload or get another truck in there. Also how fast are they running. I know the 425's are rated at 65mph. I try to keep it below that loaded but have gotten up to 70 or better. not fond of it with the tire speed rating. Also summer time is a killer. Running Yokohamas now up front going back to Michillins next.
  7. I was pricing a 90" for my Pete and upwards of 50k. not including install. So far still got the stock 63" home sweet home
  8. When I get home I'll have to dig out pics of our old 235,D5, and 950. I think 1 of the best dozers I ever ran was a jd 350. Little bastard was a house pad grading sob. See If I can find the pic of the D6D I ran hooked to the Dm that layed over. I think between the 6 and the D8 I ran Idk which pushed better. That 6 was a pushing sob. But that 8 would move the piles faster then the draglines could stack
  9. That has got to be about as low as it gets. Sorry to hear it is your own grandson that did that.
  10. Kitty is doing good. Only complaint now is my fuel pressure has a 20 pound bounce. Idk why. Also sounds like it has a very slight miss in time with the pressure. But it pulls like a sob. Came across the mountains on 68 anywhere from 1/2 a gear higher to 1 1/2 gears higher. Gonna get it back to Cat after I get empty or the pressure gets to wacky
  11. Probably my next truck. This thing was spec'd great minus the front axle. DBl frame Dbl latch 5th wheel. long slide. But the put a 13k steer.
  12. I had a hell of a time if I stopped and turned loaded it would bind. Not squeal the pump just bind. Got the factory twin box put on and only complaint now is it is slower but Pete says it is the same pump as a twin system. Only thing I have left to do is the 23k springs. Never ran 385's so don't know what problems they had or have. I'm always heavy on the steer even empty
  13. Go to a junk yard and get one. then go to Mack with the vin and axle number. Get the extra steer box as if you put 425's on a single box is a bear to turn. did this to my Pete

    woops

Being that he is a green rookie it can be forgiven to a point. Shit happens but it cost dearly when they fawk up. Bet he remembers drop the bed within 5 ' of the pile coming out. and make sure he remembers to turn the pump off
  15. Another additive I run in the fuel is Motorkote fuel additive. Truck really seemed to smooth out alittle more. May start trying the oil additive
  16. Tippin has a collection of Macks and such. He uses them around his farm. He might of started out driving but thought he was a pilot. Or atleast he was a corporate pilot for a while.
  17. Ed just go to Wally world. Beleive it or not they sell additive in Fl. Problem I have is go somewhere and buy fuel and they got #1 and # 2 diesel. 40 cents per gal difference. I find it cheaper to get reg fuel and buy the additive myself. Use to have a heater on the truck but don't know if it actually worked. Gonna put another one back on as I never froze. Had a tank act up till I added more additive but truck never died.
  18. Another great one is the Bridgeston Oncor Caps. Ran them on a lowboy till the rim broke 2 years later
  19. I feel your pain. Sitting here in Jessup,Md right now. looking for a load. just laid out 26450 for the engine. Haven't hauled the first load since new years
