  2. I was under the impression that all Mack V-8's were of the wet liner design. First the 864, then the 865/866 series, and finally the E-9 series. Am I wrong? Ron "Mack used a dry sleeve liner design while Scania chose wet sleeves."
  3. That's not quite right, #107 was the first Mack I drove for work. Actually the first Mack I drove on the street, for fun, was a 1941 Type 55 fire truck which Mike Yarnall also owns! Ron
  4. First Mack I drove was #107, and believe it or not I was the last person to use it in revenue service hauling horses back in 1976. Ron
  5. Yours was made by Signet Systems, later ones were made by Red Dot. Both have their own problems. In one respect you don't have to worry about all the air leaks in the dash control and all the air cylinders. There's only one air cylinder in your truck the one for the fresh air door. Ron
  6. There's another problem with the "MH" heater system that I encountered years ago which is losing air getting into the cab. The ductwork going into the cab runs on the outside under the floor above the R.H. steering tire. The air actually leaves the inside of the cab from the heater/A.C. box and travels in a duct under the floor and re-enters the cab at the very front of the cab on the R.H. side. There it bolts up to another duct above the floor with the floor sandwiched in between. The duct on the bottom is double wall blow molded plastic with threaded inserts in the hollow parts on the top, that's why you won't see the nuts under the floor. There is a gasket between the floor and this duct along with a gasket that seals the inside duct to the floor. If these are deteriorated along with the gasket where the snout on the blower motor assembly enters the duct going under the floor you can lose an awful lot of your heat and or A/C out to the outside. I don't know whether I'm bragging or crying, but through the years we operated them I became quite intimate with them! Ron R
  7. Mike, I would imagine it was a cost saving, The clever thing was, from what I remember, that there were double lines. One from the pump to a rail with unions in it and one from the rail to each cylinder. The lines from the pump to the rail were special for the PSJ or PLM American Bosch pump while the lines going from the rail to the injectors were the standard lines used with an APE American Bosch pump. Therefore if you needed one of the upper lines it was pretty much a very common item no matter what type pump was on the engine. Ron

  11. How about looking at the governor lever on the pump, sounds like the over center spring is broken. Ron

  14. They had them along the PA Turnpike also. Were pretty good but don't ask for a Coke or even a Pepsi, you drank HoJo cola and liked it! Ron

    We had two '69 "F" models we bought used from the Allentown branch that were built with underground exhaust. They had 237's in them, you didn't want to leave them running when you were cranking the landing gear up or down, they'd bring tears to your eyes! They didn't stay that way for long, wasn't very good for the horses either! Ron
  17. Al, I've posted this somewhere before but don't know where? We had three 400 series Brockways with 237 Maxidynes in them. One had letters on the front of it between the tails of the horseshoe that spelled out "Huskidyne" Ron

  20. Sure do Mark, there was a lot of them! Used to run that way out of the city to Saratoga. Rte. 4 off the GW Bridge to 17N to the Thruway then to the Northway exit #14 to beautiful Saratoga Springs! Ron
  21. I made one like that for my old pick-up, had red L.E.D.'s, wired them up to the side marker lights. When the parking lights were lit they burned steady when you turned the turn signals on he'd wink at you! Ron
  22. I remember them Mike, Pure junk, anybody that would put one of those on the front of a Mack should be hung! Ron
