  1. Donny, I have not found any parts available from any of the Mack dealers I have visited, I have had better luck at NAPA but only with the older parts guys, the youngs ones will just give you a blank stare when you tell them what you are looking for. If you can find a NAPA dealer with an old timer at the counter make him your new best friend, some of them enjoy the challange of matching and finding the parts you need. As for Mack specific parts Ebay and Hemmings Motor News is your best bet, also you may want to join the ATHS (aths.org) lots of older guys there who can help out in tracking down parts and info. They also put out a pretty good magazine called Wheels of Time, if you have a Tractor Supply store near you you can pick up a copy at it. Are you looking for any parts now? if so I might be able to give you some leads on them, most of the old Mack stuff is located up the the North East, lots of junk yards up there filled with the stuff you may want or need. If your truck is like mine it is based and the E series chassis, that is what you will be looking for when trying to find parts. David
  2. If you have two smaller ones and one larger one then thats where the marker lights go, the two smaller holes were for mounting the marker and the larger one had a grommet for the wiring. You can still get the marker lights (I think Watts has them or on Ebay) but the red lenes are extremly hard to find. Keep in mind that these trucks are almost 60 years old, in that time a lot of holes could have been added for department specific items and if your truck has been in private hands for a while who knows what could have been added. How much do you know about your truck's history? Two of the best things I did were to visit the history center of the town where my truck first served, I was able to find two newspaper articals about larger fires that my truck was at and both had pictures, also found a short story about the Fire Chief who was retiring in 79 who served on my truck when it was new. In the story he decribes how the truck looked when it was first bought by the city and how impressed eveyone was with such a modern truck. The other thing that was worth the time and money was to write to the MAck museum, if you send them a donation and the serial number of your truck they will send you all the info they have on it. Mack was very good at keeping records of the trucks they built. You should be able to get a build sheet listing all the equipment that was placed on the truck and what the specs are for it and, the best part is they will send you a picture of your truck as it looked just before it was sent to the town or city who ordered it. This site is the best place to get Mack specific info (Thanks to Barry and Watts Mack!) The next thing you need to do is to join SPAAMFAA (Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus) at spaamfaa.org that is where you will find all of your fire apparatus related info and suppliers. What engine is in your pumper? Do you have any of the original equipment with it? If you need anything or have any questions just ask, I will be happy to try and help you out. David
  3. Welcome Donny, What model do you have? Most of the parts are easy to find but you will come across a few items that may take awhile to track down. Lots of info here on Macks and if you need any help with the fire truck related equipment let me know, I have a 48 S-75 pumper that I am restoring as well. Also, all of us here like to see pictures of the other members projects, post some if you have them. David
  4. What is the differance in these two engines? I know the ENF is a gasser, could the END be a diesel? When was the END510 made and for what applications? Thanks for the help, I have found a gasket set that says it fits the END510 but I have never heard of it before, I was wondering if it will also fit my ENF510. David
  5. Here in West central GA the temp is 98 but with the heat index it is 105! also the back of my shop does not have AC, it is 100 in the back and about 79 in the front where I wish I was!!!!
  6. Andy, It is listed on Ebay again for a Third time, this time it has a minimum bid of $300. I would pay $300 for it if it did not cost so much for me to pick it up, diesel is 3.00 a gallon now and my truck money is getting tight. Maybe someone will get it and keep it from being scraped. David
  7. Chuck, Do you have any pictures of the front and/or drivers side? My engine has a oil filler neck just in front of the coil and the exhaust manifold is a little different than yours but overall they look the same. I do not know what the 465 looks like. What part of CT are you in? I am thinking it is about 18 hours one way so it might be somewhat of a drive, do you have any idea what the engine might weigh? David
  8. It looks like the EN510 to me as well, where are you located? I might be interested in it if it is not too far away frm me. Thanks, David
  9. Mark, All of the beds in the Mack pumpers that I have seen have been made of wood. I am not sure if they were varnished but I know they were not painted, my guess is they would have been done in linseed oil. If the pumper was made as a fire truck from the assembly line they inside was red, if it was made into a fire truck later most likely it was Mack green. Hose reels were red and supports were also red, hose guides or rollers were for the most part chrome. Let me know if you have any other questions. David
  10. It was listed twice and no one bid the first time and I was the only bidder the 2ND time it was listed. His seller ID is 195751 and the item number was 8073156026. Here is a picture of it as well. Good luck! It would have been a 24 hour round trip for me, thats why I had a lower bid. It would have been around $500 for me in fuel and food for me and my buddy to go pick it up.
  11. What I was looking at buying was only the engine and chassis, it was on Ebay last week. I had the highest bid but I did not make the reserve price, if you want the Ebay item number I can give it to you but I am betting the seller has taken it to the crusher. No harm in trying though. David
  12. Thanks for the info, I really need to get that book for myself. I am pretty sure it has the Continental 330 since the casting numbers on the block have 330. I wonder if the 330 would be underpowerd for my S75, the 45's used the same frame and were about the same size as the 75's David
  13. I sent you an Email, let me know if you did not get it. David
  14. Does anyone know what engine the type 45 pumpers used? The fellow who has this for sale does not know anything about it, here is the info he has. The engine number is: 5N330G468UK (Hard to make out a couple of the didgits) "Copper Chrome" cast in engine 8/8/48 cast in cylinder head Chassis # 45S1488 Thanks! DW
  15. They have posted ALOT of the pics on the ATHS message board and they are still showing up as of this AM. Did anyone fron this board make the show? DW
  16. I found this on the Neal Boortz site, I have no idea what this thing is for but, take a close look at the top front. DW
  17. Every now and then I put some Marvel Mystery Oil in my F250 super duty, I have not noticed much of an improvement but I have heard that it helps keep the injectors clean. One other thing is that it does not blow smoke when I put the pedel down in 6th gear when it has the MMO in it. DW
  18. Trent, Do you have any idea of what the S would stand for on my S75 pumper? It does have six wheels but that includes the front axel. I have always thought the S stood for "service" but since reading your post I now have no idea. DW
  19. Lots of picture on their site, how do they get the flames? On some of the hot rods I have been around they use propane and a spark plug, is that what they use? DW
  20. I use the purple stuf from Sam's or NAPA, spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes and hose it off. Be carfull if you use a pressure washer, it can spray water into seals and gaskets if you are too close with high pressure. DW
  21. Well I do know what is not wrong but, I still have not found the causeof what is wrong. The last thing I have done is to take the oil pan off and inspect the bottem end, nothing looks or feels broken and I have also ruled out the starter, tranny and rear end as well as the clutch and all the valves. only thing left that it could be (that I know of) is a stuck piston(s) or broken timing gear. I have used PB Blaster and MMO in the cylinders and by using a pry bar I can get the flywheel to budge just a little back and fourth, every few days I try to move it some more. I am hoping that one afternoon after work I will get under it and it will make some real progress and I can start putting it back togather. (again) I really had wanted to get it on the road by spring, looks like I have another summer of body work in front of me again! After the looong wait for the water pump I think I can wait this out as well! DW
  22. Hey Trent, Sounds like yall had some fun getting it running again! Now if I could just get mine to break loose I might have just as much as you, Last weekend I had a buddy over and we were pushing it with one of my tractors and I tore the tailboard loose from the rear of the truck! It took us the rest of the weekend just to get some new mounts made and get it back into place. Unless you look under the truck you would never know what we did. I thought about pulling it but after hearing your story I think I will keep on pushing it from now on. Dw
  23. I have won judgements against three former tenants (commercial/retail space) for a total near $75,000.00 I have learned that that does not mean a thing! I can not collect a dime from them if they do not want to pay. One person had everything put into his wife's name another claimed bankrupcy and the third can not be found. I now will not let any of my tenants go over 30 days after that their butt is out the door and I still have to take them to court to get them out of my spaces. Best thing you can do is what you have done, post his name here and maybe that will keep someone else from having the same problem. We have a forum here just for that kind of thing good or bad. DW
  24. I thought this would fit my truck but it is for the early E series trucks, looks to be in OK shape. Click Here to go to it. I hope someone here can use it. DW
