'07 Vision exhaust in cab
lucerne tractor replied to GumpyJoeWV's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
Look at your exhaust manifold gasket, look for black soot around/below the port. If it sounds like it's skipping a little when your standing out side beside the hood, passangers side, but it runs fine, that could be it. I don't know if 07 has the new and improved gasket, but Mack went from a thick one that blew out to a thin metal one that isn't supposed to, so replace it with that if needed. -
I'm sitting eating breakfast this morning. I looked out the window and saw a guy sitting on an odd machine looking toward the restraunt, a few minutes later I looked and he is still looking. So I watch him for a minute, thinking it's odds he is on the machine "what ever it is" on a flat bed posing. Well he never moved. Why you might ask? Well I'll tell you!! The aluminum wheels are part of a load on the first flat bed, behind that one is another flat bed with gas pipe line fittings and pipes, behind that another gass line flat bed, behind that is a moving van, box truck, with a picture of a guy sitting on a soffa on the side, thats the driver of our mystery machine. Notice the feet position was perfect and his hand is on the wheel. I took the pic with my phone.

I think that was my local Mack garage, all they have to do now is call the custom, "OK, your truck is ready" oh yah, she's runnin!!!!! Nope, couldn't hear the skip from where we were hiding, I mean standing. We decarboned the motor, 300.00 extra, but well worth it. she should be clean, just like we ran a rag through her. You got a pretty hot motor there.

My thoughts exactly, Running fluid back through the filter pushes the dirt back out. Going up the pump regulates the flow, going down the weight of the body regulates the flow and you should be able to slow the flow with a controll valve so it doesn't drop like a ton of bricks, but doesn't take all day either, it shouldn't run through the filter. ( My thoughts from a TA in Moundsville W.V.)

No left brake light
lucerne tractor replied to stahlex's topic in Electrical, Electronics and Lighting
switch the bulbs from one side to the other and see if the other side works, if it does, it's the bulb. 1157 bulb? if it doesn't it could be the contacts under the bulb, the two leaded bumps are dirty, on the bulb or the socket, or the spring that pushes them on the bulb is stuck with rust, spray some wd in there and poke at it with a screw driver and see if it moves. the 1157 has two filiments in each bulb, so one can be good and one bad. -

Hauling oversized you find those places, you wouldn't think so but I always found them. Truck stops aren't built for large or long. I like the old mom and pop hole in the walls. We are losing them fast. Two of my favorites are gone in the past few months. -

I'm in NY, Ct. in the am for the drop. I stayed at I 10 and 301 that would have been Friday night. Wanted to take a left and go to New Orleans, my second home. -
I see your in NJ or the New England area, measure the load height, stay under 13'6" and remember the true height, there are briges everywhere up here lower then that. They will be posted, just keep an eye open. Top heavy, no problem, just drive reasonable. Best to chain four corners pulling four directions, best to hook to the axles that way there is no bounce slack in the chain.
-
No problem at all, just watch your height, pipes would be the only thing you might have to remove. Fold the mirrors in so you don't get nailed for oversize.

Couldn't have asked for a better place to break down, no wrecker bill either. Ended up with two new heads and all the valve train, pulled the pan to check the cam and lifter, they are like new, had new rods and mains rolled in while the pan was off. The cylinders still have the cross hatch and the sleeve to block seal looks great, she never has used a drop of oil. Should be good for a while I hope. I have been to Vero Beach and uloaded the tractor, went up to Ocala and loaded two farm tractors, one excavator,a box blade,a wagon of some type, a riding mower and a few other odds and ends. 4 hours to load and get it all tied down. It's all kinda locked together. The hill I lost the valve train on going down,Mt. Airy, I went up today with that load, 17th and 45mph all the way, never touched 1200 rpm, stayed above.I guess I missed slpwlkr on the road, probably crossed pathes somewhere. I've been running hard to get this trip over and start a new. Back at the Greensboro N.C. Pilot again. -
Thats nice stuff, I like the Brockway, make a nice t shirt. The super and the R are beautifull too, you have some talent there.

I got all the 12 volt chargers with me, will have to pack the 110 chargers in a bag and tuck it away in the truck just for these ocasions.Looks like I might be out of here tonight Wed the 25th, had them do a bearing roll on the rods and mains while the base was off. Looking good. If you happen to live near or break down in Greensboro N.C. you can have faith in Transourse who is the Mack dealer. They have a drivers lounge that is nice too. Showers, bathrooms, laundry, cable tv flat panel, all free. Great bunch of guys, free ride to and from the motel every day no problem just ask or call and they are right there. Can't say enough about the mechanics, Jeff who has done my truck it very fussy and knows more then 10 people should, every update, every measurement to the 1 thousandth. Real pro's. -

Well, stayed at the International dealer from 10:30 Sunday till they opened, nothing they could do, only did Internationals, nice guys though. So took off for the nearest Mack dealer, down 77 to 40 Greensboro N.C. seems they know what they are doing, the guy on my truck anyway. We both pinpointed it down to a loose rocker and even picked the righ cylinder. The turbo was ok, as I left Airy Mt. it would boost up if I got on it so the popping was what I was affraid off. So found a broken rocker bold and one loose in number 4, the set had moved so much they chafed the head beyond repair, he checked the front and it was the same, one bold finger tight and chafing. So two new complete heads. The base pan was removed to check the cam, H clips and ceramic rollers, all perfect, a blessing. Exhaust manifold has to come off and he found manifold gasket leaks on 2 cylinders anyway so thats another fix out of the way with the new and improved manifold gasket, also new and improved rocker train bolts and lock tite. Should be done Wed night, $8300.00 Trucking!!! I wish I had my 20% over injector nozzels with me, now would be the time. They want me to trade for a new one with a MP8 but my home town Mack garage was the one that cost me $8600.00 last week on the transmission when it was the ride height after all and they adjusted the valves before this trip so I don't think I want to go there anymore. Thanks for all the concern and the funny stuff too, makes me feel better anyway. donations and flowers can be sent to Days in Greensboro N.C. room 165 -

Is that true? I should unhook and limp into town. Started getting a puffing noise out the intake, when I put my hand on the intercooler hose on the drivers side I can feel it puffing, no boost. If I throttle it at idle it goes from 1 to 0 pounds. There is a little oil below the turbo on the frame, looks like the big round gasket on the right facing it, where the cast iron flat plate bolts to the cast iron turbo body. I thought maybe it swollowed an intake valve but with no load it revs smooth, no smoke or popping. The oil makes and no boost makes me think turbo.
