That's a good place for an oil fill. Don't have to be too concerned about spilling oil on any v/c or engine an parts. I like it. I'm just use to a six cylinder having to fill oil in the v/c on top front. mike

Yes Glenn I have known this can be done, but this late in the game I feel safer with 100 LL. I still believe in leaded fuel. Here at John Tune we have a P51 Mustang called Sweetie Face owner Tom Patton and they run 100 LL and his maint. crew told me the power is worse than when we had 130 Octane. But they said the cost to use Octane Boost is too costly and the plugs foul more often than now. What was funny one of the crew told me that they had to call the Queen of England to order plugs for the Rolls Royce Merlin when they needed a set. mike

On an earlier post TBone has not commented as I recall on his finding of his engine number on the front timing cover. How would we know if it is a 711 or a 673 if he has not indicated on here? TBone if you need us to help you, then you will have to give more info of your truck so we can better help you. mike

This unit was installed in the basement in 1985, so it may be a 1984 Cummins. The building was constructed in January 1985 and moved office furniture in by March 1985. I was running it each wednesday for several years but since the economy has gone sour ya know the answer. It has an hour meter but I have forgotten what it is. I do know, it has very little hours on it. I had the underground tank filled last year and they sent out one of their genious workers and he over ran the tank and it caused an overflow inside of the building and fuel was running down the hall. Man did I have a mess to clean up. Ya have to stand and watch every move someone makes today. I probably will be gone before it needs filling again. mike

Now i'm confused, The oil filler area on mine is on the front valve cover and the dipstick is where you have described, at the passenger side of engine near the compressor. A picture of your explanation would be more positive to explain. I may need some help on this one also. mike

Yes Rob, our Chiller runs off the big power of 480 volts. It sure can get your attention when it comes on. I downloaded pictures of the chiller and air handlers at the building for ya 2 years ago, but never until now had a reason to show you. Oh yea and also the Cummins 50KW Generator with Turbo....Made In Brazil. I'll have to look for the photo's thinking my g/f has them in her computor. mike

Just as 220 cummins said. It is inside of a rectangle box, which have hood latches, one in front and one in back of the box. If you cannot find it then trace your battery cables toward under the cab. Some switch covers are missing on trucks thru the years. Hope this picture helps. mike

Amen and Amen on that one. I was not one of the lucky ones. The truck I bought had a bad switch and had to jump the poles with a big screwdriver to start it. Put a new switch on and almost caused a fire. Smoke was coming from inside the cab. Then had to get some wiring done and another new parallel switch. Just a little over $800.00 bucks worth. Note To Self, Buy your switch from a starter and generator shop, they will at least exchange it for yours. mike mike

I appreciate the input form Rob and Mark. I know now what you mean. Bad thing is, ya can't get the blue out once it's in their. We used to buy a product called BLUE AWAY for motorcycles exhaust pipes. I had to use it on my 1978 750 Super Sport Honda, and it did a good job getting the blue out but, left a slight yellow tint to the exhaust pipe. I guess the best thing to do is use screws that have a shoulder so the plate will have something to hold on to. I'll probably wind up just using new stainless screws and be done with that small hurdle. Many Thanks and Good Day! mike

I wondered if these aluminum plates could be saved from the garbage by very light TIG welding? Mine was troublesome taking off the door. Only one screw was stubborn and I was able to slide it out from under the screw, which broke open the corner. So I tapped it in and reshaped it back like it should be. I would like to save it since the truck is being restored. Hopefully this will be the only part that will look like it had seen many work battles. A normal person would throw it away and get a new one and have the number restamped. mike

Many Thanks rhasler for the info. I did a quick look but did not pursue the site yet but will in the a.m. I do have the part# from the link you posted yesterday. I took that part off the engine last night by tapping on it with a rubber hammer, so it dropped into the oil drain pan on the floor. Took my water pump to the Machine Shop today to weld back on the bolt hole which was broken off I found. I could not get the pump from the housing so left it on. It was not leaking fluid but it needs to come of. Tried last night putting heat to it but no cigar. Hi Glenn, hope all is well with you. Sorry for stealing the thread! mike
