I remember my days training in the Police Academy the SGT. saying that whatever was loose in a vehicle traveling say 60 miles per hour, that when the vehicle comes to a sudden stop as in a headon collision. Any items big or small is still traveling at that speed. mike

I can relate to that Larry with motorcycles. I can't top AJ's but a good story. I was sitting in my F700 box bed had been hauling 2500 pound paper rolls that afternoon when all of a sudden my boss tossed a roll in the truck with the roll clanp and when it hit the front of the bed it made the truck bounce causing me to hit the cab roof. I was dazed by that. Normally I would have been on the dock ready to chock my load. But that day when he saw me, said to me, we got to -hit and git tonight. Yea it became a nightmare evening for me. mike

I didn't know they could teach an old dawg new tricks. Or maybe your going only for the perks and hore de vores. If i'm to attend anymore school it would probably be driver safety school since they no longer spend for me to go to school through work related. Only kidding......I do get a badgering flight instructor to go up in the air with me sometimes as I did a few weeks ago when doing my Bi-Annual Flight Review. Two years ago during a BFR with the same guy ( i'm surprised he wanted to go up with me again ) he wanted to do emergency engine out procedures and he thought I was not performing to his likings. So I told him I could do this all day. He pulled the throttle on the downwind abeam the numbers and told me to see if I could get to the airport and land. To make a long story short, I slipped the plane sideways cause I was too high, got it slipped into Final Approach and landed too fast but, made another one of my fabulous landings. The instructor fell silent for a minute and then with his Japanese lingo was telling me I cannot do it that way and go around again. He was so nervious and messed up about it he was shakeing because of my slipping to landing near the ground. So that was when I told him I could do this all day cause I love it, and want more of it. We went around again for the last time and was uneventfull. As he was signing my Pilot Log Book that was when I saw him with the shakes. I can laugh about it now. mike

I believe i'll follow Trents suggestion also since i'll have to do the same to mine. I just now have no more air leaks ( KNOCK ON WOOD ) The new pop off valve was letting too much air out and for some reason is behaving nicely at this time. Strange thing the dash air valve has to be flipped to the right to get the air to fill up past 60 lbs. It now has 130lbs. and I was not expecting that much air since I put on a new D-2 Governor recently. mike

Jim, Not saying this is the cure but, I bled mine from the top hose while the engine is running and a solid stream of fuel is flowing and screwed the hose onto its fitting. The book says the hose on the side of the secondary filter is the fuel inlet and the outlet is under the filter housing. The one on top is the air bleed hose although fuel goes through it when properly done. mike

Jim, Are you sure your bleeding all the air out of the fuel lines? And letting fuel pour out the line you are bleeding while running then put the line back on while the truck is running. I hope that made sense. I have seen where blowing compressor air into the tank helps to. mike

Your right Randy......we need a few more responses....some concrete help, that ought to help him. Can't figr why Rob didn't help out. I guess he was getting some babying on his tooth situation. Can't figr why Rob didn't let me pull that tooth with my B model. He could have sat down on the ground and held onto the corner of the house. Or sat on his new YAMI HAW and held the brakes. mike

They say great minds think alike. The butterfly valve on top of the carb. is closing making it shut down and starve for fuel. Yes i'd replace the choke cable from what you have described. While it is running or idleing while at raod temp. the butterfly valve should be wide open ( straight up and down position ). mike

Yea Jim I know how you feel when it starts right up with no issues. I feel the same way each time I go out and start mine. It bugs me cause of the antique plates not being able to test drive OTR except my driveway......come to think of it......i've been very fortunate that I have not ran out of fuel yet I think it was someone on this site that gets their kicks running out of fuel.....hmmmm....anyone know who that might be please sound off. Any way have a good time with your B and keep us posted on the good results. mike

AJ, I'm trying to keep any chemical off the rubber shutter weatherstriping. Thus far i've done well. And yes I had about 4 layers of paint on mine also. The product i'm using (CARBON OFF) don't know if it is safe on the rubber but have used chemical strippers on cars before but had all chrome and other parts covered and was careful then. When I saw your shutters they look just like the stage mine are in. In fact they look identical as mine are. Rob, I'll look but very sure this is not a chemical strip by my favorite company as 3M. 99.9999% sure.......not ready to buy large quantities of stripper yet. This stuff is bad but it has taken many cans to strip this paint off shutters. My finger nail has been used on stubborn places that has not been coming off. I just don't like the results from using a scrapper. Scars them too badly. I have been using scotch brite on the aluminum. mike

Paul, WELOME to the BMT site. It is quiet an interesting place to visit often. Make sure you jump in where ever. Makin friends with many drivers and mechanics can be a life long journey. I have hoped that someone near me would speak up and not be bashful. Squish can be fun and a good thing...as for resistance that is just an additional obstical to climb over or through. Makes life interesting. mike

Tom, Do you have a Radio Shack near you? Those guys are pretty good about helping, especially the older equipment stuff. Believe it or not, I still have my 1st VCR. It still plays but has problems cause of dust and dirt inside. Has not been taken in for cleaning since 1995. It was bought in 1985 at a BIG K before we had WalMart Stores here. I played my John & Martha King aircraft learning tapes on it every day for several years. I now use my DVD's instead from Sporty's in Batavia, Ohio (I hope I spelled it correct) and listen to Richard (DICK) Collins and several others mike

AJ thanks for the heads up on this matter, im grateful for the help. I believe your truck is clean enough to eat off of. I wish that more people would take photos of their trucks even if the grease is visible that is fine cause it's still a MACK. Thanks Again! mike

Finally today got to play with the fuel filter before we got hit with another round of torential rainfall. I used the g/f to start the B and waited for the fuel to run out the top hose to bleed the air out of the fuel filter. I also had to tighten the plug another 1/4 round cause it started to seep fuel and finally got it stopped and now mission completed. I'm glad that simple parts can aid the life of a machine for awhile longer. I'm still trying to get the paint removed from my shutters. Been using this spray can of Carbon Off and it has a $13.00 price tag and is primarily used for pots and pans that are used in the kitchens of resturants to get the burned residue off. Believe me when I say it works. But the paint on my shutters are a different matter. I think i've used 5 cans of this stuff and a small portion of paint is still hanging on for dear life. The end results I hope will be to get the shutters to be a natural finish and will spray a coat of clear over the aluminum,unless this clear turns the finish a yellow tint. If anyone has something to say about the possibility of not using a clearcoat please tell me. Thanks for reading mike
