    Whales

Whats with the whales beaching themselves off the coasts? Shouldn we be alarmed about this. It seems to be a trend with the whales in recent past. mike
  3. Hey B Model guys......i've been looking for the primary fuel filter on my truck. I started tracing from the tanks to the engine and only found the secondary filter on the front right side above the engine. Does anyone know where it is supposed to be originally mounted? And looks like the factory would have installed a petcock of some sorts to drain the secondary filter. I guess i'll have to come up with a better idea. mike

  5. Sitting here at work thinking about the shutterstat, i've given it much thought. Correct me if i'm wrong Super Mechanics. When the heat builds inside the water manifold where the shutterstat sits. It's supposed to get hot enough ( say 175 degrees ) to start opening the brass valve inside the shutterstat to cut off the air and replace it with heat. But since their is heat and some air left in the slave cylinder that opens the shutters...so then you have shutters that will open because of lack of full air. Meaning the shutters will begin to open as the temperature and air is regulated. So simple minded like me. I like the idea that when something in the cooling system fails the shutters can be opened up manually. I have sat and ran my truck for an hour in the garage an the temp. would only build to a maximum of 160 degrees so far. More work is instore for me looks like. Thermastat may be sticking or it may only be a 160 degree thermastat installed at some time.
  6. Rob, Forget me asking the question about the Piston Rings in the AG Kit. I found the site on the web and got my answer.
  7. Rob you mentioned oil cooler. I see no oil cooler on this engine internal or external, not that it's not hiding somewhere in the block. I wanted to ask this question. Do you know if the AG Kit has Piston Rings or not? I hope so...can't see tearing down a motor without the most important parts. Only thing i'm concerned about is, when I was changing oil back a couple of months ago I found copper particals inside the duplex clairifier filter. It was not a heap of amount but it gets my attention. I found no sign of particals in the oil pan during draining. Yes i'm a firm believer in replacing all hoses when needed during reassembly. One thing for sure...I bet the heater core needs some attention also but no sign of leakage ( knock on wood ) as of now. mike
  8. Rob, From what i've noticed the air pressure is the same but until you get heat from the thermostat( engine temp up to 180*) the unit seems like it does nothing. Thats the issue with my truck. Not getting it hot enough to work the shutterstat on the water housing. The air after shutdown eventually evaquates and the shutters open. mike
  9. Finally after getting to run the B for an hour in the garage I noticed it started leaking. This was only leaking after it got warmed up. As you can see it is a bear to handle not alone getting it lifted over the grill guard. No, I did not want to take off the grill guard. I had to get on a small step ladder and work it off the bottom hose. The hose did not want to let go, so I got a knife and went at it like a madman. Anyhow I will take it in to the shop and restore it back to better health. One good thing I noticed is no oil in the antifreeze or vise versa. All I wanted to do was pull the Mack out of the garage and put my new 10' X 24' American Garage Floor Mat down so I could start disassembling the truck for total resto job. Just thought it would be a change of scenery for you'all from the local choir thread. mike

    Where's Mike?

I'm soooo tired of this stupid weather, can't do anything inside or outside. I took the headliner out of the Mack little over a week ago. I've been caretaking at my g/f house. She had foot surgery a week and half ago. Only been out to get something to eat and back home to her house we go. I'm about to get tired of TV. If it was not for ballgames it would have to go. The garage is still not insulated or wired. I have done nothing to it since the weather has gone south. Have not been very good at keeping up with the BMT site since no one is talking about their B Model's or R Model's. Watched the Alabama and Texas game the other night and have had the most gratification from that and do not consider myself a sports fan. I was a fan of Dragracing for years but it excites me too much so I don't watch it because of too much advertising. Larry,....I have this Dragracing game that you setup all aspects of your car and I won the Nationals only once. It is an awesome game it keeps too much adrenalin going for too long of times meaning it gives you no rest time. Since my intentions are to completly restore my B Model. I wonder if the wiring harness that is offered from Watts Mack is for using the original blocks instead of plugins? I would rather use a harness that is less trouble. Every wire under my dash is brown and hard to trace and read. I will need to probably get a pattern from someones original floor so I can redo my floor. Getting ready to watch the Bengles and Jets play. Talk to you soon!! Tom....i'm still enjoying the sauce. I'm stingy with it.....I'm still bleeding heavy from a trip North, going to have to stay away from the VETS in ILL. area. One girl was too rough with me. Ha Ha Later mike
  11. In the section on this site you can find at BMT WIKI Support Topics on 10-14-09, Barry of WATTS Mack Dealer posted this for interior. Most likely exterior paint will be up to you. I have found swatches or chips on e-bay at times, but other than that i'm at a stalmate also, where most of us are. In other words paint it the way you will enjoy it. The B models were painted green inside unless a company wanted it in their colors. Most exteriors were Red, Black, Green, White etc. Hope that opened up a can of worms for you. Regards mike
  12. Hi Jim, I've been seeing your truck project from time to time posted in the photo section. I'll say more power to ya. The job looks very well done, very professional. Great color choice also. Keep us posted on the Mack and if possible make a video on utube, so we can see it in action for the rest of us dreamers.Looking forward to hearing from you. mike

    New Toy

Spent all day trying to get it into the basement. Had to take the filter and safety valve off and the clearance was only half an inch. Next came the duct work on the ceiling to clear. About 2:00 p.m. finally got it where I wanted it....I think....I just installed it where my Sears 2HP, 20 gal. was sitting. I've had the Sears since 1977. It has been the most used tool in my shops. It's like the TIMEX watch. Takes a lickin and keeps on Tickin. mike

    New Toy

Yes,...I guess the 5 horse looks like the 7.5 horse but I wanted and bought the 7.5 instead. I'm going to try and install it in my basement. The garage door is about 78 inches and the height of the compressor on the pallet is about that too. So when I get time off from work this weekend i'll have my hands full. I'll also need to borrow the pallet jack from work to roll it from the new garage to the basement. I don't want to take the compressor off of the pallet cause they make a good base vibration dampener. I'll just have to see what needs to be done and comply. mike

    Hello

Travis to the BMT site. Have you driven the Kenworth around the block without anyone knowing it yet? It's more fun that way. I used to do it with my brothers 1948 Chevrolet. I could barely see thru the steering wheel but, I could shift the gears on the fly. The more difficult part was starting it. You had to turn the switch key on in the middle then, press the starter button on the floor at the same time the accelerator pedal and clutch on the floor. I was pushing with both arms into the seat to brace myself for this task. But I became good at it. I would drive around the block for about a mile or so, come back home and put the old Chevrolet back in the same spot so no one would even know it had been moved. By the way.....My first truck model I built was a Kenworth. I painted it black with red fenders with red panel inserts on the sleeper and cab doors. I also cut the doors so they would open and close. I put red velvet interior in the cab and sleeper with a bunk. Installed a red light inside the cab and sleeper with the small battery under the bunk. I installed plastic tinted windows that looked good if I say so myself. I won second place with it in a model show at my local Ben Franklin Store. That was the fun days that I once had. If your dad don't need ya around sometime....I could sure use a son about your age to help me rebuild my old B61 Mack truck project boomarang I call it. Well anyway keep on trucking and building models. mike

Since some of you enjoy showing off your new toy's, I would like to show off my new toy. As of yesterday, 6:30a.m. a USA Holland semi backed up into my new shed and drop shipped this new Christmas toy to me. Can anyone guess where it's made and what country it comes from? mike

  25. Rob.....thanks for being soooo nice and thoughtful. Your such a caring person and thanks for paying for the operation and everything!! I had that operation three weeks ago knowing that you would expect that from your future son-in-law and it went very well. Did not have to stay home from work and did not hurt one bit. And as for my MACK....Momma is the one getting it because she has had to putup with your neglect from all those nights alone when you were in the barn and at work. She knows that i'm such a nice fellow sticking up for her each time. Thats Loyalty and she's a very fine lady same as her daughter. mike
