  1. Know one has mentioned it on this site yet, but B stands for BEST.....so the B's are the Best Models thus far.......Man that ought to get something stirred up tonight. mike
  2. Hi Larry, My set-up is air coming into a two chamber unit on the firewall that has a cotton gauze material inwhich I have cleaned and got paint off of. Next an airhose leads into the Shutterstat on the water manifold ( that I have bought new but have not changed yet. As the water temperature increases the shutterstat valve opens and lets air flow into the shutterstat air cylinder by way of another airhose, pushing the valve in the cylinder thus closing the shutters in front of the radiator. Larry I hope this will help. I would send a picture but i'm at work and it's a little difficult doing this. When I go to my g/f house she takes the 5th most of the time. mike
  3. Thanks for showing the Connie. I have always loved this airplane, used to see them fly in over my home at Berry Field Nashville ( BNA ) the sound of those engines were very powerful and loud. A long time friend of the family passed away this year that flew for American Airlines, his name was Captain Jimmy(JIMBO)Adkins he flew everthing that was available. He was an instructor, pilot on the P-47 during WW2 and came home and flew even the Ford Tri-Motor for awhile. I think it would have been a real pleasure to have flow something like the Connie. I grew-up living around the airport area and in 1963 a new airport was dedicated in Nashville, so my father took me to see the planes and got to sit inside of a P-51 Mustang. I guess it gets into your blood somehow, so I finally became a private pilot in 2003 after I became fifty years old flying single engine land as most of us do in GA. Good luck on the restoration of the Connie, I hope to see it someday. Thanks mike
  4. Dozer is saying.....I wish Rowdy would cruise on up and pick up Tom, Larry, and we would head out and pay Rob a visit and get some of that Road Kill Stew instead of my usual crap that he feeds me. Tom's tomatoes looked good also. mike
  5. The 3 in 1 sounds good to me cause it will keep things cleaner inside airlines and shutter cylinder unit near the radiator. As you know, the shutter cylinder has the large rubber valve inside and I would rather use a fluid that will not be harmful to those million dollar rubber parts inside. LOL......when I took these units off the truck, only small amounts of motor oil had by-passed and got into these units. They are now cleaner than my old mess kit was. mike
  6. With the shutter filter cleaned and I used the same gauze but cleaned in fuel bath. I looked the Mack manuals over real good like and still can't seem to figure out what is the fluid that is supposed to go inside my shutter filter that is mounted on the firewall. Thinkin it is possible to be either light oil or antifreeze. All the manuals sy is RF- A Radiator Shutter # 104-SF-11P1. Would someone give me a clue as to which fluid goes into this small chamber ? THX mike
  7. WRONG EVERYONE........thats Rob in another outfit. He always keeps us confussed. Be on the lookout for another episode of "THE TWILIGHT ZONE" with Rob Serling. mike
  8. Tom, Tell'em the truth now. Tell them you dropped more than a trailer. mike
  9. Mr. OZ Let us know how it goes with this kit. Looks like i'll be following you with a re-build kit for the 673P for my B. Thx mike
  10. Tom, Is that some of MACK's new airbag suspension thingies?.......i'll take a set of them thank you sir. mike
  11. Ahhh!!! let me see if I got it straight now......we got Gladis with a Peterbilt and Alberta with a Freightliner. Yaw should get along just fine together. If you do send in pictures.....I'd rather see one up close of Miss Oklahoma. p.s. Welcome mike
  12. Tom, Where were you when you picked up that bottle?.......because I pee'd in a 85w90 gear oil bottle about a week ago. I do it everytime I find a bottle. Problem though is getting the head to make a funnel. That's when the oil comes in handy. There's always some left in tha bottles. mike
  13. Packer, You and Rob must have been lookin in the same barn. He must be carressing his because we have'nt heard from him yet. Looks good, wish I was their to celebrate it's HOMECOMING!! Best Regards! mike P.S. If you decide ya need to let go of a couple of round tanks don't forget me.
  14. Hello Mr. Ledbetter, Thanks for the reply. Mr. Hamilton's truck subject come's up often down here in Nashville that's why I posted. Have you been doing any resto on your mack? Hope all is well and can keep her running. mike
  15. Mornin Herb, Ha Ha I know what ya mean. I figure since we've gone INTERNATIONAL in this country on just about everything the ole B would forgive me eventually. Lately i've been treating it to some new bolts and nuts plus the g/f and I gave it a good bath and wax job. It's in its new garage with a bigger smile on its face this morning. mike

Packer, Thats a neat looking truck. I'd be proud of it also. Don't see these anymore. Has a GREAT view from the drivers seat. mike
  17. Larry, Man that's great, but we didn't get to see it on TV. I watched all summer thinkin i'd see ya and only saw Ashley Force Hood, Antwon Brown winning. I looked for a white streak but couldn't see it. I guess it was too fast for me. LOL.....i'll watch the reruns this winter and see if I can spot ya. Congrats!!!!!! mike
  18. Dang-it, And just think.....everytime I went into a barn it was always the farmers daughter in their instead of a B model Mack. Rob, i'll give you one of mine if you loose your's by momma. Mine have always been too big and itched all tha time. Ya might remember how bad that was. mike Good-nite Rob.....I got a barn I need to visit.
  19. Rob, I went ahead and found a truck parts yard close to downtown Nashville that I inquired about some newer tanks off of an International straight truck mounted together and bought both tanks and they threw in the hangers so i'll mount them down the frame rails. mike
  20. Packer, Those tanks became HOT potatoes, after I called they got sold. Had a couple dents and a welded place. Kinda slowed me down for several hours on decision. Don't think he wanted to ship them this far. mike
  21. Thanks for reply. I saw that they show kits for the A,B, & C engines.......but what about the 673P ? What is different about this engine that they don't show or tell about? My Manual is haphazardly put together when I purchased it this past winter from an e-bay participant. I have not studied it enough to get any idea's for the different 673's. mike
  22. Packer, Did you buy the aluminum round tanks from on this site? mike
  23. Hey Rob, I was looking on the web, what ever came up to help me in the future for my rebuild and found AGKITS.COM Syracuse Crank & Machine out of Liverpool, NY that have kits in-frame and total kits also. Looks to me that this is a Maxidyne kit for Thermodyne Engines. Not sure because I have not called them to find out yet. What do you think about this kit? mike
  24. I've been wondering what ever happened to this truck? Several truck shops that I have visited here in Nashville do display a picture of it on their walls. It still brings attention to many people visiting these shops. mike
  25. That is a good method to use as Tom has posted and is easier to use. The brown rouge block is the more abrasive. I have gone with a chemical that can be poured on aluminum and just wash it off. If you would like to look into this their is a company called Eastwood that I have bought from that has great supplies for all of your needs. You might go on the web and search for this company. I just recently got their catalog. I have used this company back in the early 90's. Or you can go to your local body shop and inquire of help with your project.I would not grind on aluminum because it heats up the metal too much. regards mike
