  1. I looked it over but still can't seem to understand how the s/p comes apart. I haven't taken the s/p out of the truck yet. But that is next on my list of things to do. If the large end unscrews I would be surprized. Although there is a small dimpled end toward the passenger side that has screws. I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks mike P.S. Larry, You must have decided to not go to the truck show.
  2. Superdog, I'll try that and reply. Thank you!! mike
  3. This afternoon I had some time with the B. I turned the switch key on, then pushed the start button the parallel switch made a clunk noise each time I pushed the start button. I would not rule out a possible key switch problem. But I'm now thinking the parallel switch is bad. Any reply will be answered. Thank you mike
  4. Larry, Thank you for replying, and sending the info. My plate is full with other matters such as Nursing Home, Hospital visits, work, Mom, etc. But I will get back ASAP. Thank You!!! mike
  5. This morning I checked out the push button switch by turning on the key switch, then using a circuit tester. It showed power to the push button switch. I did not think of checking the keyed switch as I was getting power to the former switch. I assume that the parallel switch is still bad if I have to cross the poles with two screwdrivers. It starts fine this way. But not convenient. mike
  6. GoodMorning Rob, Thank you for replying, i'll look into the Wiki site. I have not been there before. Rob please excuse me if I don't answer within reasonable time, because i'm building manager this week as i'm second in command. I'm busier than a one armed paper hanger. I'll get back ASAP. THX mike
  7. Hi Larry, Belive it or not, at 10:15p.m. last night this truck was dropped off by the previous owner, and title was signed over to me. Yea, i'm glad to own a piece of history that I thought could only be an impossible dream for this ole southern boy. Read my story when you have time. When I was later sitting in the cab. I noticed the Briggs/Stratton key was in the switch. So I'm back to wondering what could be wrong now? He started the Mack last night to get it off the lowboy the same way as mentioned before, under the seat. I don't have manuals for these B's. So, I'll have to go on memory from 30 years ago thus far. I'll soon post a picture when I figure that out also LOL. mike
  8. Hello Herb, That was the answer I was hoping to hear, but was not certain since I only had a brief time with this truck. But for a guy that has known this B for many years, I'm surprised he didn't hotwire the vehicle at that switch. He seems to know this truck very well. His father has been the owner for about 28 years, I have had no contact with his dad. For example, I can't seem to understand why people will buy a decent $300.00 set of tires for maybe a vehicle but won't buy a simple $22.00 switch to get it started. Go Figure. mike
  9. Ok guys, I know by now this has been a troublesome question, but I need the help. This is a B that has been changed over to an Alternator from generator. He's running two 12 volt batteries. The push button starter switch does nothing. We had to start the truck by crossing the poles on the parallel switch under the seat. By doing this, the truck starts as normal. He told me the key to the ignition has been lost. So i'm assumeing the switch is on at all times? The amp meter in the truck is showing a charge. That is all the info I can give at this time. Can someone help? Thank you mike
  10. Ray, That B Model looks absolutely GREAT!!!! I'm looking at a red one near me hoping that the deal will go threw. mike
  11. Thanks for the update Glen Akers. And for those that have been generious to reply to me this past week, I now have tested the Pinion job by a test run about 2:p.m. today. Looks like we have a dry baby now, with less leaks. Thank you all!!!!!.....for coming to my rescue. mike
  12. Sir, Thank you for your reply. The Rotella 85w90 will suite me just fine. By this saturday afternoon I will be ready for a test drive and will let anyone interested know the results. And a many thanks to all that has played a part in helping me with this subject. I would like to address theakerstwo by a name if possible, but found no name in the profile. Just for future reference. Thx mike
  13. Guys, I'm almost finished with the pinion job. All went well. I like the ease of putting on the speedi-sleeve. One other minor question. I would like to remember back when you'all dicussed oil, so I can make a good decision what to put in this carrier. I seem to remember someone saying they use Rotella by Shell. I would like to know if the 80w90 is a good selection for this unit? I like the Synthetic lubes but they are known to leak past seals, as I've found out the hard way. mike
  14. Larry, No we are on the same page about the pinion. I'm changing the bearings. Don't know weather the nut was loose. Impact wrench got it off with no problem. I'll let you'all know when I get it back on and a test drive. mike
  15. Herb, I'll buy the speedi tomorrow and let you'all know the results by tuesday. Thank you!!! mike
  16. Sorry guys that I did not get back with you sooner. I have spent the better part of this day evaluating the subject. Herb the pinion shaft has a groove cut into it. I found a web-site for the Speedi sleeve. I guess this is the only way, correction..... the cheapest way to fix this beast. I will mike it and determine what size speedi sleeve i will need. I still wonder if this is the best way to fix this carrier? Herb, the yoke seems to be ok, but that imposes another question. If there is some movement on the shaft, up and down, can i find a new yoke? Looks like it would be almost impossible to find a good salvage part. Just my guess. Larry, yes there is slop in the pinion. The axles have been replaced... I hope the bearings were also. But i was only told this. I haven't looked yet. One thing at a time for this one tracker. mike
  17. Hi Larry, Larry i'm not familar with a Speedi Sleeve. Can you elaborate on this subject? The pinion has a little movement, but not much. I believe it has to have some in order to not bind. Am I right? Just like a wheel bearing. mike
  18. Hello from "Down over Yonder" I'm still working on a B61 that is a single axle. It needs some help in that rearward section. It has expelled lots of dirty, black grease from the pinion seal, looks like about 3 inches worth. Man it sure is caked-up. My question is..... will I have to not only replace the seal but, replace the pinion gear also? If so.... will I have to replace both as a unit to match, pinion and ring gears? Or can I get by with just replacing the seal only? We use to put shim stock in to replace, but did not like this methodoflove... alittle Hall an Oats song. Thxs mike
  19. The B sure looks fine from here. Is it a single axle? And would like to be able to find me a couple of the aluminum tanks like you have. mike
  20. Tommy, Buy both of them so you will not be dissapointed. In the good ole Federal America all countries say we are all wealthy. So just go for broke!!!! mike
  21. Sorry Guys, When I left work friday I had no way of replying back. The computer at home got a BIG virus on it, so its in the shop now. I came back to work just to check my messages today. Paul, I will check the museum out. I've had bussines with those nice people before. I'm headed home now. So I will check the BMT site Monday. Thanks for replying!!!! mike
  22. I am looking for service manuals for the B61 Mack to purchase. I assume I would need to buy engine, body, interior, brakes etc.etc. more than one manual as with most vehicles. The truck is a regular cab, single axle 672 cid does not have a blower but is a diesel inline six. Your help is greatly appreciated. mike
  23. Welcome Dave to the BMT site. Jumpin and get your trunks wet. It can get as mild or wild as you can imagine. These are a GREAT!! bunch of guys and they are always ready for an interesting question or questions. We also like color pictures of projects with your Macks.
  24. Hey Rob, I'm just curious, is there suppose to be a hose connected to the right side of this governor. Also looks like this unit can be taken apart for repair, from my view. It reminds me of just a simple diaphram. mike
  25. Welcome "B" owner, All of the B's are becoming rare. If your cab is not concave, that is 6 inches less room, and you will know it when you try to sit down inside. Because if you are like us seniors then you will have a belly that will not fit anymore behind that steering wheel. A s/a tractor is non other than a city cab. Just buy it, get home and enjoy the bragging rights.
