  1. Hey Mark. I somehow have saved this model that I built in 1972. As you can see it has been molested by a kid many moons ago. I won 1st Place with it, at a Ben Franklin Variety Store. Also for the first time I beat out my brother and his best friend that they were some of the best model builders in the Nashville area during the 60's and 70's while they were teenagers. I was trying to resemble Gene Snows Vega back then. I'm surprised that I still have it. It has all but fell apart. I used pickup sticks for the frame and roll cage. I bent them with a flame from a candle. I used mercerized thread for my plug wires. I got a piece of my brothers scrapped, chrome, 3M paper that he used when he lettered a racecar. I cut it out for the inside panels around the engine and wheeelwells. We used to use toothpaste to polish the bodies of our models back then. Used sandpaper to make the slicks look like they had done a burnout. I now don't know what to do with it. I have been all day throwing away many things here at the house. The model has somehow missed the trash can for many years. Hope you enjoy mike

Hey Tom, .........can I get on the Shine List instead of the Sauce List for now? I've been fairly good this year. LOL mike
  3. Jim, my excuse for knowing many of the old cars and trucks was, I once had an older brother. He got me interested in building model cars. I remember my very first model that I built was the AMT model of the 1940 Ford Coupe. I recall the parts were mostly black except the few chrome parts. Funny thing happened just recently. I was looking for some silk flowers for my brother and fathers grave at a Hobby Lobby Store and I decided on looking for the models. I went into shock when I saw the prices of these models that once took me a couple of months to buy when I was a kid at $1.50 to $2.50. These models are now better than $25.00 bucks. I don't see how these kids can buy these LUXURIES. mike
  4. I would imagine that the lines and tanks need a cleaning also. Hayden rebuilt mine and I sent it through Fleetpro Company. Took about two weeks to get returned. They paint them black and looks like new again. mike
  5. Sorry to hear the bad situation. I wonder if this is part of the storms that we had down here last night, but turned to ice in your area? mike
  6. Maybe........but I was thinking some heavy Elmer's Glue should do just fine. mike
  7. I wonder what the coupe version handles like? mike
  8. What vehicle is this axle in? mike

  11. That is absolutely fascinating. I have seen the WW1 aircraft versions. Thanks for sharing this. mike
  12. Hey Les......don't forget to cut out some holes for tail lights. Other than that looks like your on the right trail. I'm liking that garage even more. mike
  13. I want one of dem 80 piece rotary nose picking kits. I know a few others that could use this kit. I want call any names here. mike
  14. I really enjoyed seeing Don Garlit in his dragsters, especially the old front engine rails. I have not had the privilege to visit his museum but would probably stay all day if I could. I liked watching Tommy Ivo, Tom McEwen and many others in the good ole days of Drag Racing. I have taped the late great Ronnie Sox when he ran the Sonny Yates 426 semi hemi in a replica of his early 64 Comet. He would run perfect reaction times and was not a young man anymore. He was a great racing legend. I wonder if there is a web-site that has all of the old racers in action? mike
  15. Darn-it......and I thought it was for sure a beaver. They stand on their back feet as I was told by a talking storybook onetime. I bet it was one of Tom's g/f in her bunny suit. mike
  16. Was that Don Garletts dragster? Been a long time ago when I saw that car. mike
  17. I've always liked those 39 & 40 Fords. Neighbor had one sitting in his backyard with weeds growing around it. I was 10 yr. my brother was 16 and he became friends with the owner. I recall it was painted white but when the guy restored it, he painted it black with red flathead. mike
  18. Good idea......wonder if we all can stay at Hatcity house? I'd try not to foul the air too much while there. Hmmmm. mike
  19. Santa mike has been bringing me gifts all year. Some of those gifts have come with a big price attached, and a bigger headache. I told the g/f the other night, that I was going to get me a shelf with rollers for the garage,so I can get the cardboard boxes off the concrete floor. She called me Killjoy and finally said that it was the gift she was getting me. I LMAO about it. Ok then I'll wait. Mary for Christmas to you guys also. I hope all of you get an Obama Doll for Christmas. mike
  20. So Larry which item are you wanting Santa to put under your tree? mike
  21. The R looks very tough and looks like you have taken good care of it. You must be partial to the older Mack. So it would still serve you well into the next many years. I would keep it and have both trucks to work with. mike
  22. I like it. Have not seen one of those IH's in that paint pattern in a long time. I liked em then. Glad you found it in good shape. Good luck with it. mike
  23. Looks like the boy on old TV show Gentle Ben. mike
