  1. Thanks Andy!!! She only has 8900 miles on the clock
  2. Make sure that the brake shoes are adjusted good first or you will be moving the pedal a lot without any resistance to build pressure. Invest in penetrating fluid and start spraying every bleeder.Do that for about a week. Be mentally ready to break a bleeder off, that way it won't surprise you when it happens.
  3. Yes you are correct!!!!! I took the pics from my cell phone and that is as good as it gets. I will get better pics before too long I also made new mudflap brackets and a taillight panel from aluminum diamond plate. It looks good with the new mudflaps hangin'
  4. Finally got pics uploaded!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I would run a small transfer line between them. That way only one tank needs to have the sending unit and it would read accurately. A small line like 5/16 or 3/8 is plenty. Just be sure to protect it well. Most are put in a piece of channel. You don't need some debris thrown from a front tire ripping the line out . I started to mount the stacks but found out that my adapters from 3" to 4" don't fit!!!! Aparantly 4" is not the same as 4" to some people . I spent 1 hr polishing and waxing the stacks, clamps, and rain caps. I used high temp paint on the rest of the parts. I will get pics as soon as I can .
  6. DON'T If you hook that sender to your gauge you will smoke the gauge. The factory gauge is made by Stewart-Warner and has different resistance.I think it is 330 to 10 Ohms.Sorry it has been a while for me on here but I was busy working my main job and 2 part time jobs. The crappy thing is that I got laid off AGAIN! NAPA has a sending unit that is the correct ohms and is adjustable for tank depth.Check JC Whitney also. PS: I just put new tail-light panels on Faith with LED lights and aluminum diamond plate mudflap brackets and a matching center panel also!!! Plus my 4" chrome stacks came in Thursday so now I have to get those babies mounted.
  7. Thanks to everyone who wrote about my request.I found a body and front mount pump outside of Newcomerstown,Oh. which is about an hour from me.In response to CF686F1292, Mack didn't assemble my truck as a fire truck. It was sent as a chassis to a place called Ted Dunlops Garage in Canton,Oh. They did the conversion on it using a pump and body from American Fire Apparatus Co. out of Detroit.Last I knew they moved to Ky. but the phone no. on their website is wrong and I have gotton no response by mail. The notch in my grill is too big for a hand crank,my '47 PowerWagon has a crank hole and it is only about 1" in dia.It couldn't be for suction either because it is inline with the crank and there is not enough room between everything up there.I want to apologize to everybody for not responding sooner, but I was recalled from layoff at East Mfg.and don't have computer availability like I did.I have a part time job as an EMT at a private ambulance company and was working there during layoff which I was gratefull for.It helped pay the bills and I could use the 'puter during down time. I apologize again for the delay. PS:My 20yo stepson leaves for Marine Corps. boot camp on Easter Sunday! Mom and I are very proud!
  8. Thanks everybody for the response.I don't think I could afford the shipping from California on a complete truck! I would love to contact them and see if they are going to part them out or sell whole. My truck was bought as a cab & chassis and then converted in Canton by Ted Dunlops Garage. So far I've been told it was for Republic Steel in Canton, but I haven't been able to prove that part yet.I wrote to American Fire Apparatus Co. with my chassis no. and gave them the serial no. from their tag that is on the seat base to see what they could tell me.The previous owner took the pump and bed off and put the 12' flatbed on it.I haven't been able to contact him to see where the stuff went,I think he passed away and the family sold the truck.I know that it was a "bumper pumper" because if you look real close at the pics, there is a section of grill missing at the bottom where the pump was mounted.
  9. If it has the oil seals on now I would stick with them.At East Manufacturing every trailer that goes out the door has oil in the hubs.I asked a parts man at a really good bearing warehouse why oil and he told me that a wheel bearing will last MUCH longer in oil than grease. He asked me how many times that I have replaced, not repacked, front bearings on a car or truck versus the rears. Most OTR trucks have oil in the fronts right from the factory. There are a few aftermarket places that are offering upgrade kits for travel and boat trailers.
  10. I am looking for a bone yard for fire trucks in Ohio or Western Pa.Even a yard that has some fire equipment would be a start.I was told about one in the Columbus area but have had no luck finding them.Adelmans here locally only has a few that are mid '80s or early '90s from Chicago FD .They had a few B model dumps and tractors but they were wore out units from Kenmore Construction.I mainly want to look for a front mount pump.It doesn't need to pass inspection, just be able to pump some water at musters or shows.
  11. The alternater that is in my A-30 has 4 studs on the back, a"+", "-" and two that are marked "AC".When I had it checked out the told me it has an isolated ground and can be wired in either direction.Read up on my posts in the electrical section also.Speed was working on converting to neg.ground system. It is more time consuming than difficult in my opinion.

  14. I'll 3rd that thought. When I was in the Marine Corps I got to fly in a helicopter a few times. The crew chief would always give his little "talk" pre-flight and would say,"If you see fluid leaking, that is fine.Don't stick your hands behind anything because you could loose fingers. If the fluid stops leaking we're in trouble because we're out of fluid!!!!!!!!!!!" So if it is just a small leak, doesn't smoke, stink,or become obnoxious, let it go.It might just be a bolt that needs torque checked.
  15. There is a guy around here that has a Chevy dump with a 2 stroke in it.He had never delt with a Detroit or drove one.I told him that before you get in,slam your hand in the door ,that puts you in the right mood to keep your foot nailed to the throttle hoping to blow that thing up! Those Detroits love the high revs! When I was on the Fire Dept. we had a pumper/tanker with an 8V92 backed by an Allison 5 speed. To pull out we would put her in drive, idle out the door till you felt the rear tandems come off the concrete and onto the apron, look both ways, then mash the pedal down and don't let up till your at speed.
  16. Speed,I finally got pics of Faith uploaded. They are in my gallery. The one pic shows her loaded with about 10,000lbs of hay.She ran great and went 45mph without a problem .Just road really nice and smooth!!!!!
