  1. That is called "iceberg" sir. You only see the top 10% above the surface and the majority of the mass is below eye level. The truck is less likely to cause problems and will be cheaper to use.
  2. Congrats Rob. Now is the the time to spoil the livin shit outta them and send 'em home! You and the baby can sit next to each other and drool, fart, cry, shat yourselves, and giggle about it.
  3. Most of the older ambulances and fire trucks had LN alternators. Recently Ford diesels come with 2 factory units that are about 130 amps each. My A has a LN on it from her fire days. It is a 65 amp unit that is in great shape. I would stick with the Leece Neville unit for a couple reasons. First,,it fits the bracketry you have now,,second they are plentifull,,third rebuildability.
  4. Try calling Chalmers Sales in Cashtown,Pa. His number is 717-334-8709. He has a lot of A model parts.
  5. What is worse than a male chauvinist pig? A woman that doesn't listen.
  6. It runs great. I get better gas milage since I got rid of that huge steel parachute on the back. I have to fix the rear brake line and I want to Por-15 the frame before I mount the flatbed. I found a Holley Truck Avenger carb on craigslist but I don't know if I want to buy it or not. Jegs sells rebuilt Edelbrock carbs for a good price, I just don't have much understanding of their stuff.
  7. 1985 Dodge 1 ton 4x4 with a 1973 440-3 engine,727 auto box,and 4:56 gears!!! It has a Carter Thermoquad.
  8. Just very busy at work. The company has been in receivership with the bank for a few months and may have new owners soon. We are also getting trucks ready for our annual state inspections. I've been trying to figure out a running problem with my Dodge truck, i drove it one day to work, ran great, about ten minutes from home it started stumbling, stalling, wouldn't idle. I thought I got some water in the gas. I put dry gas in and it has sat for about a week. I went out the other day to play in the flooded streets and it started right up, idles great, but at about 25-30 mph it starts stumbling again, not as bad as before.
  9. The 7 blade RV style is definately different than the OTR round pin setup. The RV plug has Black as the battery charge, white is ground, yellow is auxillary-usually backup lights, blue is brakes, and the red-green-brown are your turn and tail. The OTR has that separate tail and marker circuit set-up. The new trailers with ABS have a second electric plug just for those funtions.
  10. That manifold and hoses were for additional cooling if needed while on long pumping calls. The engines were ran at a higher speed to pump and if they got too warm then you could open a valve and it would circulate the cooler tank or hydrant water through the engine. You could just pull off the hoses and pipe nipples and put plugs in.
  11. The only thing I don't like about recessed rings is the garbage that gets into it. Dirt, rust, etc. When have you seen a nice chain pocket in a body shop floor? All the ones that I've seen were packed and had to be dug out. I would mount them high on the outer rail and reinforce with something if needed.
  12. That looks like a piece called a Tru-Hitch. It is a nice unit because it puts the towed unit weight on the 5th wheel where it belongs, not a pivot point behind the truck. I've seen pics in towing magazines of twin screw tractors picking up cement mixers and trash trucks without being overweight or too light in the front end.
  13. Speed,,,my A has a NAPA oil filter number 1006 or 1009. I can't remember which but will post the correct one on Monday. If you are able to get a seal out without destroying it, you should be able to read the numbers on the steel section. It could be Timken or Chicago Rawhide (CR).
  14. Just a bit top heavy?
  15. Wasn't it in Kallyfornya that the "white" lady going 22mph in a 20 zone, hit a "black" child, who ran from between 2 parked cars? She fled the scene and turned herself in when she arrived home because "she feared for her safety". The charged her with a few things but later dropped them. The community came unglued and rioted because they felt the system favored the white woman. They forgot that the child, who was quite young, RAN INTO FREAKIN TRAFFIC! She would have hit a dog, man, or anybody, any color that bolted into traffic,,,,UN-DAMN-SUPERVISED!!!!
  16. I was missing a cap on my A and bought a baby moon cover at summit racing, and with a little crimping on the lip,fit like a glove. The only way anyone would notice is that I have 3 that say Mack and a plain chrome one. I am thinking of getting letters put on later. If the lip OD is the same as your hub ID it should fit right up.
  17. I've got people at the ambulance company that do that still,,start it up,drop it in drive, and floor it. They then complain because they are sitting on the side of the road cause it won't go above 35mph. First thing I ask is "how long did it warm up?". Typical answer is "well,it was sitting in the heated garage". The garage is heated but with the doors constantly in motion it stays in the 50's inside. People beat on these trucks then complain that they are junk,,,duh,,I wonder why.
  18. Did Crane Carrier Corp use on Oshkosh cab or their own? I have seen a few CCC trucks that were purpose built.
  19. I just read an article where Deere is spending tons of money on a plant in INDIA!!!!
  20. Let's see,,,rust stain down the front from the radiator cap area,,that door is open by the way,,probably indicitive of an ongoing overheat issue. The passenger wiper arm is very tired or broke and hanging. What is the red thing hanging from the back of the passenger side fuel tank? I love the Farmington custom bilateral wood bumper combo.
  21. It will go MUCH faster if you put the top up on those convertables!!!
  22. The truck I liked driving best,of the few I drove, was the Ford L series. Tall windshield, nice seating position, kinda low and angled nice dashboard, and the way the dash was low it didn't block your view over the hood. It had a Cat engine with an 8 speed. Nice design for someone like me who prefers a tall "sit-up" driving position. An R model is about the same but I only have about 1 day of wheel time in an R. It is an older one with a 237 turned up and a 5 speed.
  23. I remember the Astro,,you could see the drivers knees through the windshield. Drivers liked it because it was like driving a picture window and you could stop inches behind someone. The fear was flying out the windshield if you hit something.
  24. Is that mamma? If she would turn around so we could see her tooth we could tell!
  25. The number 1 in every vehicle I drive is a roll of toilet paper. I keep it in a ziplock so it stays clean and dry. Other stuff is 6pt wrenches, some 6pt sockets, a combo screwdriver, oil, coolant, some 14g wire with crimps and tape, 24" zip ties, fuses, bulbs, a spare belt, and a set of points.
