  1. Have to work on Veterans Day

  2. Thank you for the apreciation. I think all veterans should have the day off.
  3. The older Dodge/Cummins combo has issues with the fuel pumps. There are aftermarket pumps that seem to have a longer lifespan. The Cummins did have a $1.00 flaw that could cause catastrophic failure. There is a locating dowel in the front timing cover that would loosen and fall. Some would fall harmlessly to the pan and others (most) would get caught in the timing gears and gernade them. There are easy ways to fix both and neither would keep me from an older Cummins. The best Ford diesel was the pre '95 trucks. The '95 and newer 7.3 powerstroke had issues with the glow plug/injector harness that is inside the valve cover. They would overheat due to small gauge wire and burn up or burn up the gasket it went through.
  4. The answer that I was given is because there is a new water tower up on the left just out of camera shot. An older hydrant was there and the new one is to the tower. I still can't figure because the water tower is tied to the main line! Look in the ambulance mirror, there is a nursing home at the end of the street, and maybe 2 houses in front of the ambulance, water overkill for the area.
  5. FAIL!! Yes these 2 fire hydrants are about 20 feet apart . This is in Akron, not a photoshop.
  6. I would kinda suggest to think real hard about a ford. We have the 6.0 liter in our ambulances and they just seem to have problems. Yes we are a little harder on them than most but that means problems show up sooner also. It isn't the engine itself usually but sensors,EGR valve, injectors, glow plugs, filters, etc. Some sensors will put you down now,no warning, and no way to bypass and limp home. The biggest problem was a couple of trucks in the fleet went through head gaskets and turbos. There are some of the later 6.4 liter engines on the road but I have no experience as they are on the other side of the state. The company just bought 30 new rigs with the V10 gas engine because of the diesel problems and they will be converted to propane or CNG in some areas. My part-time boss a few years ago had 2 new Dodge tow trucks. Both were 6.7 cummins with the new automatic and the engine brake. Nice running and steady, strong torque, like a docile locomotive. One is a 4500 2wd and the other is a 5500 4wd. The only problem that I heard of was complaints about the huge smoke cloud when it did a particulate burn off. Think white steam like smoke that is so intense that you can't see behind you at all. It makes you think that something is seriously wrong. I don't have any experience with the GM duramax engine because I don't know anybody that has one. My GM friends have the newer 5.3 gas engine and are thrilled to death with it. If money was no issue, but it is,I would get a dodge mega cab with the long bed conversion,diesel,6 speed manual tranny, and 4wd. I don't have too many issues with driving a large pickup in the city. I have figured out the turns and parking needs a long time ago.
  7. I wouldn't give them that much credit. If they are crying then that means they understood something and realize they aren't getting their way!
  8. Nice A model sleeper cab. I've only ever seen pictures. I am curious though, what is that behind the Bulldog hood ornament? It looks like a radiator cap but the A's are under the hood kinda in the middle but on the driver side,is this an oddball?
  9. It sounds like she is very happy to be with you. Take good care of her and she will reward you many times over in ways you never thought of. Good find.
  10. Forget about the muffler and go straight pipe baby !!!! Sounds like you got another good truck and I am envious. I am impressed that it had enough fuel to make it inside!!!LOL I am however not willing to trade places with you as I am very close to my remaining anatomy. Momma seems to be on her game when it comes to removing precious dangly things!!
  11. I don't think that will be a problem.
  12. There are crank pulleys out there but I would be concerned about the drain on engine power. The A/C compressor may not be able to provide the volume needed for long term braking. I would try to track down some of the bigger gas engine parts people and see about a set of pulleys and a compressor.
  13. She was probably struggling for room or fresh air. I would like to know how big the dog house is if it allows room for you?
  14. Your current situation is totally self inflicted. I feel sorry for the dog.
  15. That's best senario but I have runs 33's on 8" rims without any problems, just makes 'em look fat.
  16. Speed I am pretty sure it is the standard 60" CA on the body. I don't know the overall length of it but it might be 9'. The hubs are manual and I think they are Selectro brand. They are the big ones that you grip on the outside, even with a gloved hand. I haven't had any replies on trying to sell the body so it will probably go to scrap. I hate to do it but I don't want to haul that thing around or wait months for the money to come in.
  17. I think I'll go with 33x12.50x16.5 tires. I think the height will help the gears some and the tires may not kiss sidewalls in the rear. I like BF Goodrich All Terrain TA's and the are not expensive at Summit racing.
  18. Rob and I can definately understand the need for more room behind the wheel! Does one have power steering? I don't know the time frame that it became an option, but that could be the reason. If it has a 2 piece column vs the straight post like my A, that could be another reason. Look at the column on an R model. I bet that opening the hood and looking at the setup would reveal the answer. I like having the wheel as flat as possible for easier ability to apply the "armstrong" steering, some refer to this as bus style. I drove an old IH truck that the wheel was almost vertical and you couldn't pull on the darn thing and get leverage to turn.
  19. Good news,, it has 4:56 gears in it, that explains the horrible fuel mileage. Bad news is that it has 16.5 rims with 9.50 tires on right now. I'm thinking what is the largest tire I can run and not have the sidewalls in the rear touch? I am going to look for 16" rims in the spring.
  20. I just bought a 1985 Dodge W350 truck . It is in decent shape for an '85. It has an enclosed utility body on it now. I will be removing the body and installing a flatbed to try and get some better fuel mileage. It has a 1973 440 engine with headers , 727 automatic tranny, and Dana 60 axles front and rear. I don't know what transfer case is in it or the axle ratio yet. It is a great running truck. It steers straight on the highway, no strange noises, shifts like it should, and the brakes are strong and don't pull. It needs a good cleaning and eventually a paint job. The wife says that a lot of projects need done at home before the body and paint job . The best thing is that it is simple to work on. Tons of underhood room even with the big block. Parts are cheap and easy to get and get at! I will post some pics of the beast when I get a chance.
  21. If you're getting that much pressure on a known good gauge then it is probably the unloader. That's my $.02 of opinion,,,that's all I can afford!
  22. Is it making too much pressure or do you have a bad relief valve?
  23. Can't you get an LED bulb to fit into your current housing? There are tons of aftermarket bulbs for just about every standard bulb application. Most LED's fit in the same space and are the same shape as their old counterpart.
  24. Uuummmm,,,,,,,,it's a train,,,,,why didn't they move it with another TRAIN!!!!!!!
