  1. It's worth the time to just get the CDL and not worry about it. You might want to research and find out if our father drove a 72 or a 73. There's a big difference. That was when Mack extended the cab and changed the dash from hard green to tan vinyl.
  2. Sounds like good plan. The autoshift will work just fine too. She can side step the clutch at idle to get started and not need to touch it again til it's time to stop. They are real easy to drive. Buy a tamdem and keep the extra axle. You'll enjoy the extra brakes and traction.
  3. Looks great. Don't change the color, just add some. Here'e a sample of one I recently found.......
  4. Outside of right frame rail above the steering axle.
  5. We usually raise the truck (or at least the front) about 12" off the ground. It is easier to work on and get the trans under the fuel tanks while on the trans jack. Like fjh said you can jack under the clutch housing to raise and lower. After the mounts are removed we bolt angle irons legs on the side of the clutch housing for safty and to get the floor jack out of the way. For installation the only trick we've found is to install studs (or bolts with the heads cut off) in the clutch housing to help with alighment. After the trans is in place you can pull the studs and INSTALL THE BOLTS WITH LOCTITE.
  6. Great pictures. Thanks for posting. Is that first truck a rare R800 or a DM800 with the cab centered or offset to the right?
  7. If you like the truck, buy it. You can always replace the engine with a 237.
  8. This will get you started..... http://www.macktrucks.com/assets/mack/ModelProduction1.rtf
  9. My '86 Superliner II is 1M2AY04Y1GM001962. Only 491 difference.
  10. Those solid ramps look like one hell of a spoiler. At what speed would they start taking weight off the drives?
  11. Does it have a one piece or two piece frame rail?
  12. Rob, Looks like it's located on your way to Macungie. Only 77 days away!
  13. How 'bout some pictures?
  14. The number should be stamped on the outside of the right frame rail above the steering axle.
  15. And this is my favorite E9 picture....
  16. This is a II.....
  17. The big difference between the I and II is the frame. The I is a 2 piece rail (spliced under the cab). The II is a 1 piece and is also used in the MH and CL.
  18. 1790 RPM = 60 MPH (with the T2013)
  19. My 86 RD has tan and my 86 RW has gray. I questioined the orginal owner of the RD when I bought the truck and he said it came new with the tan. Maybe it was a late 85 and got a 86 serial number???
  20. Get the numbers off the side of the transmission, rear ratio and tire size. Then we can help you.
