  1. Buy the Mack RM 4x4 on Ebay. Invest $$ in restoring it and have something you can use forever and repair yourself. You won't need to take it 800 miles to have it checked out on a computer for a $20 part to be replaced.
  2. The 9sp is .71 overdrive. So .78/.71 is 1.10, or 10%. That's a lot different than the 30% change from a 7 sp.
  3. At least we can be sure you're not this guy......
  4. 1984 would be an E6. Look at the tag on the block just above the pump to be sure. A better question is 2 valve or 4? Do the injector lines run to the pasenger side or to the driver side of the block?
  5. Keep an eye on Ebay for manuals. Call me @ 919-932-3344 if you need any parts. We have parted out 4 MH's.
  6. If you divide .78 by .6 you get 1.30. So at any given speed your engine will need to run 30% faster. If your turning 1600 rpm at 60 mph now, With the 12sp. you will be turning 2080. Change the rears or keep the 7 sp. and add an auxiliary.
  7. Just go to the truck show in Macungie (father's day weekend). You can take a bus over to the plant for a tour.
  8. Make sure the little washers are installed on the end of the injectors. If they arn't there or they get doubled, the line won't meet the injector correctly.
  9. I've always enjoyed passing BFI Peterbuilts and Waste Industries Volvos at a muddy landfill. Nothing beats a 2 stick 6 speed. Especially in reverse!
  10. I've had ring and pinion problems and the noise would carry through the transmission. You would swear it was coming from the trans.
  11. Make sure all the bellhousing bolts are tight.
  12. Berry, Where can I find this picture? This one comes up as X. Thanks
  13. I can inframe an E6 for less than you can buy a turbo. Now I'm sure I don't want any new trucks. I'll keep rebulding my E6's and R models until there's nothing left to rebuild.
  14. Rob, Bring a trailer down here and I'll load it up. The 12V, the 12 sp, a set of frame rails,.............
  15. I've seen it done. You also need to change the radiator.
  16. B66, thanks for the picture. Rob, I guess the trans will depend which engine I go with. The Cummins/auto would be more original.
  17. I only have one. But here is a set : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-PETERBILT...1QQcmdZViewItem
  18. Thanks for the VIN info. Rob, the burnt truck is also a DM800. It has a V8 and 12 sp. It also has a lot of parts to complete this project.
  19. Anyone know how the VIN's are assigned? I am buying this truck and debating on installing a 865/6 or a Cummins. The first thing to go is the kangaroo killer. The second is the 12v71. Rob, let me know what you need for your project, maybe I can recoup some of my investment.
  20. We have one. I would need to check the legnth. 919-932-3344
  21. Look at the frame to see if it's a I or II. A 24 yr old truck may have had the hood changed a couple of times.
  22. Does this VIN mean it was the second DM800 or the second with a Cummins? Do all VIN production numbers start with 1001?
  23. Reading this thread is like rubbernecking as you drive past a wreck.
