  1. This will happen if you are a little low on freon.
  2. They are not full length double frames. The double frame was an option.
  3. I don't have any numbers for the Superliner 1 frames. The Superliner II (RW600) and the MH600 had the same frame. These frames had various heights. They were highest under the cab and had a drop at the engine for the E9 exhaust manifold. Under the cab they are 13.15" high. Behind the cab they are 9.37" high. The inter rail is 8.82" high and starts 73.0" from the center of the front axle. Both are .24" thick. The RW700 is 13.5" under the cab, 10.8" behind the cab, and .39" thick. The inter rail is 9.9" high and also .24" thick but starts 20.0" from the center of the front axle. PPbuilt and Kworthless have never had a frame that was compairable to a Mack. The quality of the steel is more important than the thickness and height.
  4. The RW6__ had a 1/4" frame. The RW7__ had a 3/8" frame. Either model could be doubled.
  5. Find one from a F model and have it rechromed.
  6. This engine is not currently in a truck. So we have not started it.
  7. No tags on my valve covers. How can I find out what I have?
  8. Is there a tag on the E9 to show what horsepower it is ?
  9. Keep in mind that 9.02 is usually paired with 5.73 rears.
  10. You can make fuel tanks safe to cut and weld by piping exhaust from a running engine into the tank for about five minutes before working on it.
  11. The RD800 BBC is 129.3". The R700 is 119". The R600 is 103". I just purshased the DM800 with the burnt cab on Ebay. I'm thinking of tring to install a R cab. Will it work?
  12. Rob, The 80's spec sheets I have show the R600 and R700 both with 9.00"x3.25"x.25" frames. The 1978 sales engineering publication on frames shows the R400,R600,R700ST,U600 and U700 also with this same frame. The R700S(standard) is 10.5"x3.25"x.25". The R700S(optional) is 10.62"x3.25"x.312". The RD400,RD600 and RD700 is 10.62"x3.25"x.312". All have a .25" inside member available that starts 15" behind the center of the front axle. From the drawings (no dimension shown) only the R400,R600,R700ST,U600 and U700 show a vertical drop in the front that starts about at the rear of the cab. There also is a disclaimer that states "illustrations are not necessarily a representation of standard specifications". Hope this helps, David
  13. I will keep rebuilding my E6's and R models until there is just nothing left to rebuild!
  14. The spacer plates are used when there is no inter rail (double frame).
  15. The CL, RW II, and MH all had the same frame. This frame had some flair, but also a drop. That was to allow the E9 to fit. The RW I and the Cruiseliner had the same frame. Each rail is in 2 pieces and overlaps and is bolted together under the cab. The front piece also has a drop. The westerns have some flair but mount the steering box different and the exhaust runs between the top of the frame and the bottom of the cab.
  16. The R frame is wide enough at the front for the steering box and the exhaust to be run inside the frame rails. The rear is only 33" wide (one inch less than most all other trucks) and the trunion is also 1" narrower than the MH, CH, and RW models. This may also explain a different bolt pattern. The exhaust run inside the frame allowed the cab to sit lower and keeps the heat away from the floor.
  17. Cat may see the writing on the wall. When Paccar starts building their own engines a big portion of their market will be gone.
  18. That's enough to loose all your air. Try leaving the switch in a different position and see what happens.
  19. How much is the owner going to pay for this learning experience?
  20. Sometimes the wire for the AC compressor is run inside a plastic hose.
  21. Stop an feel the hubs to see if they are getting hot.
  22. There is one for a MH now on ebay.
  23. I have a 84 MH with wedge brakes. We only use it to move empty trailers and depend on the trailer brakes to stop the truck.
  24. Try hitting the enter key.
  25. You can get the Granite in all wheel drive. I believe the RM was available in all wheel drive until it was replaced by the Granite. My RM 4x4 is a 1980 with 21k miles on it. There are a lot of the flywheel pto's in use today. If you see a Mack concrete truck without the front bumper extended for the pump, it probably has a flywheel pto. Unlike a transmission mounted pto, you have a live pto with the clutch depressed. Look for the little drive shaft along the passenger side of the transmission.
