Pull the cover and look at the ring and pinion. I've seen rear problems transmitted through the shift lever like a tuning fork.

It's about a hour away from me. I called John today. He will call back in the next couple of days. This truck was owned the same house mover that owned the burnt DM800 I bought on Ebay a couple of years ago. Anyone need it? Or any parts? It's probably been in the south most of it's life and not rusted out.

Looking at this picture you may not need to move the exhaust.

On tanks that long I think there is usually a third mount (second strap on a R) added. I may have an extra set of mounts. I'll look tomorrow. You may also need to move your exhaust where it comes around the rear of the tank.

That's a direct. A mack 8sp is way too fast. A 9sp will work but you'll loose the lo hole and will need a new pto.
