  1. I RECENTLY SAW WHAT APPEARED TO BE A DETROIT 8V71 IN A MACK C85 MID-MOUNT AERIAL. IT TUCKED INTO THE DOGHOUSE WITH ROOM TO SPARE. HAS ANYONE SEEN A MACK V-8 IN A C MODEL FIRE TRUCK?
  2. I'm still learning the 'lingo' so when you say 'cleats' did you mean wedges?
  3. I understand going from 10.00 x 20 to 11r22.5 tire I will need to change old 7.5" rim to 8.25" rim. Also, if I want to go to 12r22.5 for more weight capacity I will need a 9" rim. Can I use the same spokes or did Mack (or Dayton) make different spokes based upon rim size/weight capacity?
  4. Thanks for the replies. Now, did Mack produce a 300 HP version of the 2-Valve Maxidyne or was the HP increased when the Maxidyne was changed to 4-Valves?
  5. I'm checking out a 1982 Mack CF fire engine for sale. Trying to confirm the engine that it has in it. It has CF686F12 stamped on it. I have seen models with 612 which meant it had the 300+. This is not the same obviously. FYI: the engine has light blue paint and the charge air cooler has water lines coming in/out of the side.
  6. Does it pay to rev the piss out of engine to build air pressure? I have a chart that lists various air compressors and they ALL are rated displacement @1250 rpm. We were all told at driving school that you can rev it all you like, it's not gonna build pressure any faster. Any thoughts?
  7. any progress/pics of your swap?
  8. don't recall seeing W model tractor with this long wheelbase. possible 5th wheel installed after the fact?
  9. I see some e6 and em6 engines for sale. most have side mounted turbo but once in awhile I see one with a rear mounted turbo. were these model specific and if so which models were they made for and why?

  14. I have seen engines for sale. it appears that they are resting on the oil pan. is it in illusion, or are the oil pans that thick that they can handle the weight without warping?
  15. yeah I have researched gantry cranes, forklifts, even bobcats and I wanted to know if anyone ever tried a 3 ton engine hoist or would it not be able to lift high enough...
  16. WHAT WOULD BE THE SAFEST WAY OF REMOVING AN ENGINE, PARTICULARLY FROM A MACK C OR CF MODEL FIRE TRUCK?
  17. what would be the SAFEST way of removing an engine, particularly from a mack c or cf model?
  18. hey Paul that water tower in the background sure looks like it might say 'MACK' on it. did they have a plant in Syosset back in the day?
  19. ok so you clarified one thing for this new guy but you added a wrinkle. what is this bridge formula that you speak of? AND MERRY CHRISTMAS BY THE WAY!
  20. hey paul I saw some engines for sale. one is a 676 with tip turbine (I assume 285 hp) and another 676 with tip turbine (but 350 hp). is this tip turbine the forerunner to the charge air cooler but without the additional radiator?
  21. THIS NEWBIE HONESTLY IS IN THE INFANT STAGES OF LEARNING! I SAW THE B MODEL REGISTRY SO I THOUGHT SINCE THE L CAME BEFORE THE B.....I AM SURE THERE MUST BE DOZENS OF L MODEL OWNERS THAT NO DOUBT COULD PUT THAT TOGETHER...
