FIRST TIME SEEING TR671 TRANNY. WHERE ARE THE ID/MODEL NUMBERS STAMPED?

I was doing some research on mack engine specs and a torque chart came up on D&W Clutch and brake company. the chart shows a EM6-300L engine had 300 hp @1750 rpm and 1425 ft/lbs torque @1020 rpms and E6-350 engine had 350 hp @1800 rpms and 1277 ft/lbs torque @ 1250 rpms. a certain used parts company lists an EM6-350 for sale. did mack ever make an EM6-350?

at first glance both the mack 300 (285 hp) and 300 plus (315 hp) appear the same. what is the easiest way to tell the difference between the two (unless by cleaning off the engine tag and giving mack a holler).

was looking at engine and wanted to know if there was a way to find out what rig it came out of? also, up to this point I never heard of a mack T677 engine before. model # is ETSZ677 serial # is 9S1893. as per seller it is a mack 350 2 valve 1979 or 1980...

was looking at 1991 Mack CF 688FC. It has M code (for year 1991) in the vin number, even though I thought Mack ended production of this model in 1990 (correct me if wrong). is there a way to know what engine/tranny this rig has by the aforementioned model number?

hey fx, I'm with you on the brake cleaner try. I have gotten grease on the rotors (and pads as a result) from lubing the ball joints and if it worked for brake pads maybe if the clutch is made from a similar material what have you got to lose?

great info kt! thanks a bunch, it's starting to get clearer now haha. with a 237 motor (plus the other figures) I came up with 15.61%. so I will go from there.

hey rowdy, I know it's only math and there are other variables BUT I ran the numbers and with the setup I put together it revved at 1400 rpms at 75 mph. 5th gear (overdrive) would only be used at 55+ mph. that should give me better mpg then now. BUT correct me if I'm wrong or missing something.

I recently saw some posts re: changing rear axle ratios to get better mpg and/or higher top speed. I know there is a formula to estimate top speed based on tire size (revs per mile), engine rpm's, and rear end ratio. now, what I want to know is there a limit, so to speak, on how low (numerically) you can go before it becomes difficult to take off from a standing start w/o revving the hell out of it and burning the clutch? I have driven some dump trucks where you can let off the clutch while in 1st w/o giving any gas at all. I can only imagine what rear they had in them.

is the ETAZ 673A the 4-valve upgrade that was introduced around 1984 or was it earlier in a 2-valve version? -
I was recently looking at old brochures on f models and although they had maxidyne 675 and 676 paired with maxitorque 5-speed, the mack etaz 673a (300 plus) was paired with 10-speeds or better. based on the horsepower and torque ratings and rpms, it seems like the 300+ was a higher revving engine(correct me if I'm wrong). why was this and is it possible to pair the 300+ with a maxitorque 5-speed and if not, why?

I have seen posts in the past re: changing from the old positive ground setup to the more modern negative ground setup. does anyone know when Mack started making rigs (particularly fire trucks) with the newer arrangement? also, I would assume the change is more than just reversing wires on the batteries. there was a schematic posted once but I can't remember. I should have printed it.
