  1. how would one convert a 10:00x20 tire to todays metric size? also, what would be today's inch size?
  2. I saw awhile back where if for instance you want to swap a 707 gas with a 673 diesel (or later maxidyne) you should change the rear end gears. I know the gas revs higher than the diesel. would it matter whether you use an automatic or manual tranny? I'm more interested with top speed (highway) than low-end performance.
  3. looking to repower mack c85 from gas 707 to diesel (most likely maxidyne). could I utilize original air intake slots on side of cab or do I have to pipe and cap through engine cover? if not, what is the reason?
  4. would love to see the look of the state trooper when he sees you driving on the 'wrong' side of the cab haha!
  5. how did you get the old gold lettering off?
  6. after say 10 years they usually send it out for refurbing. aerial ladders are recertified, pumps are tested, etc, etc. after 20 or so years it's time to do it all over again. refurbing is not cheap but definately cheaper then buying a new rig. question is up to the village or fire district as to how they want to spend their money. the sad part is you sometimes have a real workhorse with no real issues that goes out to pasture and is replaced with a problematic lemon that is supposedly the state of the art. that is where 'always wanting the newest toy' can be a real detriment to the fire service.
  7. ok, i'll try to condense my search to say, like late'60s on. after trl 107 maxitorque was produced, what was the first overdrive version of this transmission?
  8. anyone know when mack first produced an overdrive transmission? was it a maxitorque and how many speeds was it?
  9. thanks for the info!
  10. like i said before never tried this...so if there are two batteries side by side in series to make 24v, put one cable on positive(red) of one battery and other cable on negative (black) of other battery? and why are you disconnecting negative cable (to ground) of jumper battery? always jumped vehicles with engine running but if this is better way fine...
  11. just want to be prepared but is it possible to jump start a positive ground firetruck with a negative ground vehicle? common sense says to simply reverse jumper wires but i don't feel like blowing an alternator...
  12. would the allison ht740 be a direct replacement for the spicer 184 and how many speeds(does it have overdrive) does it have?
  13. all kidding aside, is the allison the same length and if not, what type of modifications (change driveshaft, etc) would have to be done?
  14. i have feeling that they are located under the molding that goes over the top of the canopy half way between the top of the windshield and the rear edge of the canopy, right? any suggestions on removing this molding without damaging it would be greatly appreciated!
  15. location/what engine/what tranny/asking price for whole or will part out? runs and drives?
  16. thanks for quick reply. are the bolts easy to get to(how many) and what would be easiest way to lift cab up and away?
  17. does the c model mack cab tilt readily or does it need to be unbolted to work on engine/trans? possible engine/trans swap in future so want to know as much as possible prior to starting endeavor.
