Looking for suggestions on insuring a tandem axle tractor... I'm getting tempted to bid on one of the Postal Service tractors and I need insurance to get it home and such until I put it to work. Is it possible to insure it as an RV tow vehicle? Has anyone found truck insurance at low rates payable by the month?

thanks in advance,

I have always wonderd, if you wanted to drive a working road worthy truck home could you get temp insurance on it just to get it from point A to point B?

Hi Thad, In the construction business here in NJ you can get equipment in transit plates. Six sets used to cost $100 but I'm sure that's gone up like everything else. You had to provide an insurance certifcate (contractors liability) made out to NJDMV and when I last renewed they were taking business checks. Only stipulations I knew were no payload in the truck, no after dark and I think no weekends. I only used them interstate before the apportioned tags came out so I don't know how that deal works now either. Bob

quick answer is yes

some call it bob tail inshurance. but of course depending on the state you live in there may be diffrent hurdels to jump. I used a commercial insurance company when I bought and drove my R model from K.C. MO to Chicago. It was a 4-5 day permit for an agreed amount of coverage.

I found the company searching the internet and made some calls untill I found someone willing to insure a bob tail tractor for a few days.

took a wile but I found one.
