HELLO ALL, I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS AND HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP.

FIRST OFF, I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 63 B 61SX

I AM NOW IN SEARCH OF TIRES ALL AROUND.

I DO KNOW THAT RETREADS ARE CONSIDERED TABOO IN SOME LOCATIONS BUT HERE IN TENNESSE I THINK YOU ARE RESTRICTED TO JUST NOT BEING ABLE TO RUN RECAPS AS STEER TIRES.

I HAVE A TWIN SCREW AND LIKE MANY OF YOU OUT THERE , DON'T REALLY WANT TO THROW DOWN MAJOR DOUGH FOR ALL NEW TIRES.

THIS TRUCKS MAIN PURPOSE WILL BE TO JUST RUN AROUND TOWN IN AND GO TO LOCAL CRUISE INS AND SHOWS. I AM GOING TO FIX IT UP BUT HAULING WILL ONLY CONSIST OF LITTLE STUFF (BICYCLES, CHAIRS, OLD FARM EQUIPMENT, ETC. ) THIS WILL NOT BE USED FOR OVER THE ROAD HAULING AND IS GOING TO BE TITLED A "FARM TRUCK".

MY QUESTION IS , WHAT IS MY BEST OPTION ON TIRES. BUY NEW OR BUY RECAPS FOR THE REAR AND SPEND THE CASH ON THE STEER TIRES ??

I DON'T KNOW WHAT 10 BRAND NEW TIRES WOULD COST BUT I CAN IMAGINE IT IS A WAR PENSION FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NOT GOING TO MAKE MONEY WITH THEIR TRUCK. JUST A HOBBYIST , NOT A TRUCKER.

IT HAS DECENT TIRES ON IT NOW BUT WON'T LAST TOO MUCH LONGER.

WHAT DOES A NEW TIRE COST THESE DAYS ?? I WENT TO EBAY TO TRY TO SEARCH FOR 10 20'S BUT ONLY CAME UP WITH BIG WHEELS AND BIG TIRES FOR THE CUSTOM HIPPY HOPPY CARS, NO RIGS.

I COULD THROW A SET OF GIAVANNI'S ON IT OR A SET OF DAYTON WIRES BUT I THINK THAT WOULD BE OVER THE TOP , ! ! ?? LOL LOL

MY WHEELS AND TIRES ARE STOCK AND I THINK THAT THEY ARE 10 20'S. I SAY THINK BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS NOT RIGHT OUTSIDE , IT'S 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND I HAVEN'T SEEN IT IN A COUPLE DAYS NOW. I HAVEN'T EVEN BEGUN TO START ON IT BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I AM LOOKING AT IN TIRE COST BECAUSE THAT IS THE FIRST BIG DOLLAR ITEM ON IT.

ALSO, WHAT IS THE TAKE ON UPGRADING TO 22.5 WHEELS AND TIRES. WILL THE 22.5 FIT A STOCK HUB OF A B-61SX ??

THAT , OR COURSE MEANS NEW WHEELS AND TIRES, WHEW , THAT IS MAJOR CHANGE ! !

I WILL STOP RAMBLING ON AND LIST THE QUESTIONS FROM THIS POST TO BE ANSWERED IF POSSIBLE.

1. NEW TIRES OR RECAPS, WHAT SHOULD I GO WITH ??

2.PUTTING 22.5'S ON IT, POSSIBLE, NOT WORTH IT FOR WHAT I AM GOING TO DO WITH IT ?? ( I WANT TO STAY STOCK SINCE IT LOOKS SO ORIGINAL ALREADY )

3. BUYING TIRES ONLINE, BETTER DEAL ON THE NET OR CHECK THE LOCAL DEALERS ? ?

4.FACTORY WHEELS, KEEP THEM, EVEN THOUGH THE RING ON THEM CAN REMOVE A HAND, OR SWITCH ? ?

5. AND FINALLY , WHAT THE HECK IS CAMELBACK SUSPENSION ? ? DO I HAVE IT, HOW DO I KNOW IF I DO ? ?

AND BARRY, WHEN AND IF YOU READ THIS, COULD YOU TELL ME HOW TO LIST A PICTURE OF MY MACK AND WHERE TO GO TO DO IT.

BARRY, ALSO , I WANTED TO LIST A PICTURE OF THE ROGERS LOWBOY I HAVE FOR SALE, SAME FOR IT.

THANKS BARRY FOR ALL THE PERSONAL RESPONSES SO FAR AND I HOPE YOU CAN CONTINUE TO HELP.

GOOD NIGHT ALL, MARCEL

1. NEW TIRES OR RECAPS, WHAT SHOULD I GO WITH ??

Heard recaps are pretty good in terms of reliability. I have seen bandags take a beating on a drag racing truck.

2.PUTTING 22.5'S ON IT, POSSIBLE, NOT WORTH IT FOR WHAT I AM GOING TO DO WITH IT ?? ( I WANT TO STAY STOCK SINCE IT LOOKS SO ORIGINAL ALREADY )

20 are tube type, 22.5 are tubeless. Someone here would probably give you a better idea between the pros and cons of tube vs tubeless

3. BUYING TIRES ONLINE, BETTER DEAL ON THE NET OR CHECK THE LOCAL DEALERS ? ?

I know a guy who swears by buying tires online. Only way to find out is to shop around.

4.FACTORY WHEELS, KEEP THEM, EVEN THOUGH THE RING ON THEM CAN REMOVE A HAND, OR SWITCH ? ?

If the wheels are in good shape then why replace them? If your going to tubeless 22.5 you are going to need new rims.

5. AND FINALLY , WHAT THE HECK IS CAMELBACK SUSPENSION ? ? DO I HAVE IT, HOW DO I KNOW IF I DO ? ?

Camel back is Macks own spring suspension. here is a picture to get a better idea:

GOOD NIGHT ALL, MARCEL1.new toyos or double coins on the front[like other brands also-these come to mind-bandag or similar all season on drive axles(top caps)2.tubeless are a better deal- easy to fix ,change&lighter.Radials run cooler and last longer& are not quite as bad about picking up rocks.

2. 22.5's are tubeless--but sometimes you can get a good set of 20's someone took off to changeover (probaly best deal- advertise for em)3.local dealers are hands on 4. tubeless are safer( been hit in the head with a ring) always chain or make multi piece rims safe when you work on em, never stand over or near a tire when inflating it& run correct pressure. Never use regrooved tires on steering axle. in Va. 4/32 legal on front-2/32 on rear-good tread makes the truck per form better-Kevin

I switched my B over to tubeless. RIm was $50(used) and $250 for Yokohama Radial tire. So for $300 each you can convert....not bad for a single axle, but a tandem....can get a bit pricey.

Check around and see what you an find locally used? Leave the tube type on it? Not really a need to change over...it's basically preference.

Hi,

I have switched my b 61 over from 10.00-20s to 11.00 22.5 tubeless. I got the rims at a salvage yard in Terre Haute Ind. for 35 buck a piece, and I got the the recaps for the rear from overnite transoprtation for $125 bucks no core. I will get the info for both places if you want. The tires look very nice, I even asked to get all matching cores so to look nice and no mis matched brands. The tires have no shipping and have designated drop off points around your area. Plus you will have radial tires(nice addition with the camelback susspension) If you need those rims maybe I can pick them up for you, I will be in Madisonville ky. in two weeks.

Fred

15 gears...no waiting!

In response to what type of tire, that just depends on your preference. You can more than likely look around in the salvage yard and come up with a good set of tires off of a wrecked truck, drives and steers both maybe not all off of the same truck. Depend on the amount and location of damage. Hope this helps Block.

Hey Marcel,

I had tube type radials on my B42 dump and changed them over to tubeless radials with one piece open rims. One thing I wanted to add is you get a much better ride with a tubeless radial than with tube type tire, especially when your empty. Have a good night...Art :thumb:
