Not the biggest Mack ever produced but the largest chain drive Mack but it will put manners on you was at Macungie about 10 years ago. It was an offset L cab owned by Gary Mahan from New Jersey. I have a picture somewhere but cannot post pictures. Joe D.

The biggest Mack truck produced was the M100, a 100 ton 6x4 off highway dump truck. It was powered by a 1000HP Detroit Diesel, believe its a 16v71. Only three were made and I believe all of them were used for heavy haul. One is very close by me hooked to a 600 ton trailer, owned by Pile Construction. It has two ladders up each side of the massive radiator. Here is a link to a members gallery with pictures of the M100 , I believe that is the truck and possibly trailer that is near me, John (aka, 45LMSWM) would know for sure.

Other Dog posted a Picture of an M75SX, a 75 ton haul truck. I think they were powered by a Cummins VTA diesel or Detroit Diesel 16v71. An interesting fact is the M45 and smaller single axle M series all had two seat cabs. The Larger trucks like the M50, M60/65, M75 and M100 were single seaters.

The M45 was the most popular off highway Mack truck and many were used as heavy haul tractors. You can easily find pictures of them. Go to this link for Bigge Heavy Lift & Transportation and check out the Prime mover gallery, lots of great pictures of their two M45's pulling Goldhoffer hydraulic trailers. Real awesome stuff.Plenty of M45's still working today.

Hodges heavy haul in OKC has, (or had) one of those monsters with a Cummins engine. I climbed up on it to have a look around. It isn't like a Cat 797 but sure is large for it's timeframe. I think the engine was a KT series but not sure of the horsepower.

The largest Macks ever built were a trio of M100SXs. As far as I know, all 3 were built as dump trucks from the factory. The only one I know anything about was the M100SX that was owned by Hoffman International of Belleville, NJ. This truck was built as a dump truck, but was sold to Hoffman and convereted to a heavy haul prime mover and used with a modular 600-800 ton Talbert modular, multi-axle trailer. I know it was a dump truck originally because Hoffman had the dump body sitting in their yard in Piscataway and when the truck was listed "for sale", the body was listed in the add. I don't know if the truck was ever actually used as a dump truck or if Hoffman purchased before it went into service as such.

Here i a link to Hoffman Equipment's history page. For some reason, I cannot view the pics from their page but there are several pics of the truck on there: http://www.hoffmanequip.com/history.htm

The M100SX from Hoffman was sold to Mashburn of Texas sometime in the late 1980s/early 1990s. The truck was auctioned off by Mashburn after they sold out to Lonestar Transportation in the mid to late 1990s and was purchased by Pile & Foundation Construction of Hicksville, NY, for moving test weights at Kennedy Airport in Queens, NY. The truck currently resides in Queens, though its future is quite uncertain.

The 600-800 ton Talbert that Hoffman owned is now owned by Allen's Towing in Illinois. There have been quite a few pics of it posted on the net. I am pretty sure the trailer has not been used since it last flew the Hoffman flag here in NJ.

I don't know if this is the biggest ever, but it's a right good sized one!

The last time I was on that section of Route 80 in North Jersey was @ a year ago, and this M75SX was still sitting there. The same guy owns a Restored M30X dump and a restored KW-Dart off highway dump truck. I beleieve he has/had two more M75SX trucks, though I think 1 might have just been a carcass. He used to have a truck show at his place every September, but it has been 5 years or more since the last time. Cool that someone would be nutty(in a good way!!) enough to redo one of these monsters, let alone two.

The company I work for has a M15SX that we plan on rebuilding into a tractor. It was a dump truck its whole life, but the boss removed the body right after we got it when scrap prices were through the roof. We have not done anything with it as of yet, but she starts every time, runs and drives. Cool truck.

John

Cool thanks much. . .
