I havent had much practice with shifting mack trannys. Pretty much just drove an automatic and an Fuller 8LL a little. Any advice the truck will be a e9 v8 w/ 12 speed mack 4:64 rears. I heard that many shift a 12 speed just like a 5 speed and just split the top gear for overdrive. Any advice would be appreciated.

Any of the 12 speeds I every drove you usually only had to split the top half of gears , unless your a tractor pulling 80,000 to 100,000 then you'll want to split every gear. Splitting is not like a fuller, you preselect your split shifts, like and old 5 and 2 speed rear end. Once you get used to it you'll like it better than a fulller trans.

12 speeds Mack are summum of tranny I think... old driver that don't wanna shift anymore use them like a 5 speeds(start in the hi at the shifter and stay there) the real shift pattern for these tranny is 1 lo 1 hi 2 lo 2 hi.... when you want to go from lo to hi you just put your feet off the pedal switch into high and press the fuel again... pretty simple and nice to shift..

The 12 speed is a great tranny. I've enjoyed it in most Macks I've run and wouldn't want any other. I'd always split from the bottom to the top and even when I was bob tailing. It's just a fun to run tranny and with 5 reverse's who would want anything else?, Tim
