Here's some pictures of our Chysler HT413[aka EN414] engine in our B421S. The truck is a 1959

and I'm about 98% sure it's factory. I also know that Mack at least powered the R410 by the

same engine. I would like any and all the information on other Chrysler powered Macks that you

can give. Also our cousins had one a long time ago in a B model they scraped. My brother and

I are Chrysler and Mack nuts, so any thing would be helpful espessialy about the B models.

Thanks. :mack1::SMOKIE-LFT:

B-421 Macks came with a EN-401 Engine. I do not see a listing for a V-8 gas engine in the B-421 series. Mack put some Chrysler Hemi's in B- Model Fire Truck Chassis. They also put 413 Chryslers in R- Models. Joe D.

I've got the brochures for the R410P, R410S, R410T and the DM model that used the 413. There's one other 410 model (X) that I can't find a brochure for. When I get a chance I'll get them scanned and post them.

I don't have any info on the B's that used either the 413 or the early Hemi's.

I suggest you contact the Mack Museum with your request. They should be able to supply you with all of the information you need on the truck. Mack has a fantastic collection of records for almost every truck built.

A request for information can be sent to the following address:

We have a B613T that was repowered with a 413 and a 5 and a 3 speed aux tranny. truck came from Tar Asphalt corp, Utica,NY and New Brunswick Nj. think they bought the truck wrecked and trucked it to Utica and put the Chrysler in it. they also built a sister truck with the same power but i think it got scraped. We have the 413 chrysler , 5 and 3 speed auxilary if interested. this engine is brand new with less than 200 miles on it. driver blew the ranny out of it and they brought it back, fixed the tranny and parked it. This engine was a factory option from Mack to repower a B42 to get rid of the tired 401 continental. Matt

Most folks I've spoken to that have used that service tend to donate $50.00 or so. I've always went double due to the amount of trucks I require information on. It is my understanding the museum exists on the donations but not sure if solely. I think the service they provide, and the literature sent in the package is invaluable if you do minor repairs on your own truck because you will get a service manual that is very complete.

Here's a couple underhood shots of my R410P, these were taken not long after it was delivered, there's been a lot of parts and pieces replaced since. All of the hoses have been replaced including rad hoses, all the oil lines, gas line, and the vacuum lines on the vacuum pump for the brakes (yup, it's got juice brakes).

Biggest thing I've done is to replace the 9:00x20's with new Goodyear tubeless 10x22.5's all the way around on new rims.

A mid 70's Bulldog magazine interviewed a retiring Mack executive and he told of the tough times Mack went through in the early 60's and they tried to put together a takeover by Chrysler. The FTC shut it down due to Chrysler monopolizing the industry. Unbelievable now considering all that has taken place in mergers, bankruptcies, and the present ownership of Mack. But Mack's fortune turned quickly with Zenon Hansen coming on board and the takeoff of the R model and Maxidyne engine. But that only lasted for so long too.

I just bought a 1955 B42T, and I have been thinking of converting it over to a 440 with a 727 automatic. Its cool to see pictures of a Mopar powered Mack. I bought the truck completely dissasembled, so I can pretty much make it how I want it to be.

413's you could actually see the fuel gauge drop I think. my grandfather had one in a R410s with an 18 speed quad box and the walkin beam rears. said it went like a bastard and burnedgas just as bad. we still have an about NOS 413 on a stand for sale complete with brackets needed to bolt into a B model if anyone is interested. far as I know NO B models ever left the factory with a 413. might have been repowered at a dealer but never left the factory that way.
