Recently my dad purchased an MB 400 that has been sitting a mile away from us for who knows how long. The former owner believes it's a 1968, and rumor has it that it used to be a water truck on Three Mile Island. It runs and drives good, just gonna need some tlc. I've looked all over the internet, and haven't been able to find any resources as far as manufacturing dates or anything, so if anybody could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated

I shoulda put this in the original post, but forgot about it when I typed it up. The plan for this truck is to shorten up the wheelbase, and we're gonna use it to haul our 2 John Deere's to local shows. My dad wants to paint it JD green, but I personally want to paint it the color of the trucks at one of the fire dept's I run with (which happens to have 3 Mack's):

wow!! 413 Chrysler this could be a great project truck!! I just bought a superliner and before i bought it i had a lot questions about the truck, one of the guys on this sight told me to get the frame serial# off (on my truck) the front, right frame rail,and then call the Mack Museum I gave them the vin # and about 10 days later got the build sheet,

who it was ordered for and so/on ther phone # is 610-266-6767 info is FREE but you should send them a donation which is tax deductible good luck.

Ernie you sure it doesn't glow in the dark! just kidding

alrighty, I made a call to the mack museum yesterday and gave them the number off this truck, so I should be getting the info packet in a few weeks. Then I guess we might find out whether or not it went to TMI. In the meantime, I've kind of cleaned out the inside, wiped off the dash, etc. Also found out tonight that my dad doesn't necessarily wanna do a restoration (which I wanted to do), but he just wants to make it usable and look decent. Which is okay, just not what I had in mind rolleyes.gifbiggrin.gif

Looks to be in pretty good shape. I've heard the Mack EN414 [AKA Chrysler 413 indutrial] is suposed to be really good motor. The Mack B-421 that my brother and I have was repowered by one in 1971. Ours needed rebuilt because of a bent rod so we havent had ours running yet. How some engine pictures of your MB. It looks like a nice little truck that should do the job.

Thanks, Josh. :mack1::SMOKIE-LFT:

On my F Model I adjusted the driver's door interior latch mechanisms by taking off the inside cover, spraying a lubricant on all moving parts, and then moving the door opening pivot further forward by loosening the mounting screws and sliding the handle mechanism forward to give it extra travel. Don't know if the same adjustment is on your truck or not.

My info packet came in the mail today for this truck! :banana: Turns out the original customer was Harrisburg Steel, and that it was put on the assembly line September 10, 1965, and finished Sept. 14, 1965. There's a copy of a slip of paper that says "ship to Allied Tank Truck Equipment Co, Phila, PA", so maybe the part of it being a water tanker is true. :D The packet itself is massive, and includes operators manuals for the engine, and the MB series operators manual, along with the chassis record, sales record, spec sheet, a list of parts suppliers for old Mack's, and a huge colection of various service manuals.

Nice to see I'm not the only one that likes the Mopar powered Macks...thumb.gif

I've often thought it would be neat to have one of each of the EN 414 powered Macks in one collection. One of these days I wouldn't mind adding an MB to my driveway. I remember riding to Syracuse NY in one with my Dad back in the early 70's sitting on a wooden box, roughest ride I ever took in a truck.

I seem to remember, apparently in another post I had, some of you guys talking about electronic ignition conversions for this engine. Can anyone give me some more info on those? We're kinda starting to consider one of those

I replied to you with some info on that, but the guy you want to talk to is ernie, BULLHUSK on here, maybe PM him,and he should be able to give you some more specific info, (where/who/how etc.)....talk to a speed shop if theres one around you also, this is a pretty common upgrade, and relatively simple to do as well,hope this is some help to you....Mark

You can pick up the electronic ignition from Summit Racing, they have Mopar brand as well as aftermarket to choose from for the RB engines. Luckily I checked my distributor before I put in an order from Summit, someone had already put an aftermarket electronic in mine.

thanks guys. Another thing we've been noticing is that we have to rev up the engine decently high to keep from stalling when trying to start out from a stop, and even then sometimes it stalls out. Anybody know if this is normal for these trucks, or if it's something that needs checked out?
