hey IM looking at 89 RW713 V8, 450(24,000k), 14300 & 44's on rears, 20000 lift axle. pto, 135 gal. tanks. dual exh and air cleaners. I will have to strech it approx. 30" to 32" when I get it home I will post pics and tell you guys the price! but I have a few questions.

Its got 22.5 tires, 8LL trans and rears are cdr92's(4.45) what will top speed be? do I leave the 8LL in it? do I change crown and pinion to differnt ratio? I have a good 13spd, or spend the money and buy a 18?

It looks to have an oil leak on the right side of the acc. drive. is this common? easy fix? can it be some thing else? the exh. manifold has a tiny leak on the pipe going to turbo.

the rad was a bit low, I notice the heater hose was leaking at the heater core after start up, it was idelling for 15min, oil pressure was 60psi, and slowly droped to 28/30psi, water temp was 150/160, when I noticed the over heat lamp slowly comming on. could this just be cause the fluid was low? or bad switch? I belive it has two temp censors?

the steer axle is a 14 3#, I will need to change it to a 20#, it has 2 steering boxs already, will i need to change the axle? or just hangers and leafs?

to me the motor didnt seem too strong, with only having 24K since rbt at the dealer, by a good engine man. the truck has been sitting for two years only being started and moved now and again, it did smoke a litte white on decel after jake turned off. Is that from sitting with stale fuel in it? does it need a good work out to come alive? I havent drove a mechanical truck in quite some time, and am used to my hopped up 460 18 spd. should this 450 outpull the 460?

I know some of these questions have been asked before but too bad! Im asking again! LOL any help and info will be greatly appricated! Its not the truck I need, ITS THE TRUCK I WANT! BOBO

if the oil press jumps from 30 at idle to 45+ I would say its good to go (still tight). that lamp may be hooked into a low water sencer? oil leaks are just about as common as any truck of its era. exhaust leaks seamed common on the V8s I have been around. a stock v8 does feel a little laggy and most turned to 1900. a few tweaks and it will run better but burn a bigger hole in your wallet. front axel beam should not have to be changed unless it was speced light. .74 over 8LL will give you around 69MPH at 1900RPM

a 1.00(direct drive) 8LL will be 51MPH. My bet is its a .74 overdrive trans.

the 440 V8 only had around 1600# of torque (stock. turned up 1800-1900# could be had. the stock aussi 600 v8s had around 2050#.

we turned one up to 2050 RPM and I think it pulled better.

I just sold my '88 RW713 E9 500 (out of a Magnum) 12 spd. I loved the truck and an e9 will definately outpull a 460 especially if it has been tweeked. I had 4.42 rears on 11R24.5 tires and the motor was set to 2100rpm. Top speed was about 75mph but it would pull with anything, it just liked fuel too much and mine was very reliable, but repairs get very costly!

:SMOKIE-LFT: That 450 E9 will walk all over your hopped up 460. A couple of years ago when my Dad was on with MCQ he and a friend of his who works for them too got stuck hauling bundles out of a scrap yard in Sutton,Ont. Dad was running his Superliner with an E9 only set at 400 Hp and the other guy had a hopped up 460 they ran across Hwy#9 instead of going through Toronto, you've probably been on #9 before and I don't have to tell you that there is some pretty good pullin across that way, they were both pulling 6 axle steel dump trailers and the old 400 E9 left the 460 behind , and wasn't any harder on fuel either. I had a 450 E9 in my MH. I had it on with Sylvite in Burlington about 4 yrs ago. I had no problem holding a steady 50 mph on the 403 climbing the Hamilton mountain pulling a 6 axle slider tarp flat bed trailer with 2 coils of steel weighing around 90,000lbs together. you'll like the E9. they may seem sluggish running empty but when you start to work it youl see a difference. They have a different kind of power then your 6 cylinder.
