B Model With A Factory Allison

Recommended Posts

This truck was just at this years Macungie. It has a factory Allison automatic and Cummins (forgot the model, 350?). The truck is actually all original and looks bad ass with the 8 spoke rears on camel back. Never saw 8 spoke hubs on a B model before. Did the B model ever come with 65 rears, that is what I was told they were. It makes sense since 8 spoke hubs were also available on 65 rears, maybe even 58's. By far this was one of my two favorite trucks of Macungie 2010. The other favorite was the green Cappello LJSWX.

I know someone was asking about factory Allison's in B's so I decided to post this.

And Just because the Cappello LJSWX is so damn sweet, here is a picture:

My brother has a 1964 B873SX with 65,000lb(6 spoke) rears and my boss has a 1965 B873SX with 80,000lb/8 spoke rears, with air over hydraulic wedge brakes.

1965 B873SX

Later 80K rears were available with full air wedge brakes.

There was a dump truck operator here in Central NJ who had a B815 tandem dump with a Mack V8 and an Allison Auto from the factory. The truck is still around, but the engine has been replaced with a 300, I believe.

John, Why does the white one have the exhaust on the drivers side?

David,

I wondered the same thing myself when he got it. That truck has had a hard life and had quite a few changes. It has pass. side exhaust mounting brackets, but someone moved the exhaust to the driver's side. The original 5 speed Mack & 3 Speed B-L transmissions have been replaced with a single Mack Quad, and the 335 Cummins has been updated to a much newer 335 than the original.

John can you answer me this , this truck had spring susp. with 80,000 rears , i thought all 80,000 rears would have had solid walking beam susp. or is this something someone did on there own

I'm not sure how long the 80K rears were available with camelback. The rears in the '65 B873 are original, though it appears that the carriers were replaced at some point with a more modern set.

A contractor in North Jersey has I believe a 1970 DM800 tractor with 80K rears on camelback. Our 1980 DM800 has 80K rears on Walking beam, but they were originally in a 1973 DM800. We also have an M15SX with 80K rears, also on walking beam. Not sure the year of the truck, but the suspension is quite different than what was used on the DM series.
