Anybody familiar with EMD 645,s (railroad & stationary power engines)knows that this combination has been around for at least 50 years. A combination supercharger turbocharger all on one shaft. The engine would be supercharged up until approximately 30% power. Above

30% a clutch kicked out the supercharger and and the turbo would take over. We had 645,s at our nuclear plant for emergency power. 2850 KW each engine (about 3500 HP)
