Bumblebee,

When I have asked the guys that were around when the trucks were ordered, they said 2 things:

1. Better visibility

2. Keep the open look of the trucks they were replacing

at our company we had 4 Macks- 1948 open cab, 1951 closed cab, 2 1954 open cabs. The 1954 B model was our last open cab, after that they went with canopy cabs, the driver and passenger were enclosed, the 2 rear seats were open. You would think that after having the 1951 closed cab, which had heater, defroster etc, they would continue, but no- the next trucks were open cabs, with no heater , no defroster, and no horn, although we do have double sided wipers, inside and outside!
