I was wondering what to expect when you wirte to Mack for information on one of these old Macks.

I know that many here have and have gotten some thing back in return. I was wondering what you might have gotten. I went to the local Mack dealer Friday and they gave me a Chassic Record and I was wondering if that is the same as I would get from the muesum?

I was a little exicted untill I opened the envlope and found 4 zerox pages of what might have been from the old slide view machines. But they are out of focus to where you can not make out much of any thing on them. Other than at the top I can make out that two of them are of the same page. And a few little items that the counter amn and my self think we might have been able to make out. He did go and look a number that we though was there and it looks like the truck had 4.50 rears when it was new. But I was unable to tell if it was ordered with steering brakes or not. I was told this might help me if I were to get in a bind at a scale house. But I am not too sure what I have will do any thing if they can not read it.

I was wondering if this was the same thing others have recived, or if I would get some thing differrent if I were to write to the Mack Musuem.

Any help would be helpfull.

Some of what you recieve may be the same, There is only so much information that is available from the chassis records. The museum my include a copy of a photo if there was one taken of your truck, or any other specific info that pertains to your truck specifically. If you request specific information from the museum about the driveline, cab, they will certainly supply that. If you have a specific request to add to your letter it wouldn't hurt to call the museum and with your request. As I have said before, they are great people who run the museum, they will do whatever is necessary to fulfill your requests. Doug

Thanks for your coments. :) I think it will be well worth my time to contact them and see what they can send me. I will ask about the brake set up on the front axle while i am at it.

I do remember the counterperson saying some thing about the truck being built Oct 10 1963, and wondering why I was calling it a 1965. I can only assume that it was built in 63 but not sold untill 65. I understand that was comon back then. It makes me wonder did they start numbering them with 1000 and mine (1036) is just the 36th one built. If so it sure set around before it was sold, and has best that I can tell all it's life to only have 197,000 miles on it.

The truck being built in 1963 and not titled until 1965 is not that uncommon. The truck may have been used as a demonstrator or loaner truck by the dealer. The title was not created until the unit was sold from the dealer.
