All Thumbs Today

Ive had it for a while, wasnt really needing it yet, now I needed it yesterday, so as my wife says, I finally got my thumb out my ass and spent most of day mounting it. It wasnt fun either, big, bulky, anyway, hope I dont tear it off tommorrow,,,film at eleven,,,randyp

Mind if we shared joint custody on that unit? I could use one fairly badly up thisaway...we've got around 80 acres of timber/cow pasture that has about 65 acres of brush. It's either gotta be fun with heavy machinery or napalm.

I looked up Blue Diamond on the porn-net just now and I never realized they were a real company. I always thought Blue Diamond stuff just appeared out of the smoke and fog at Ritchie Bros auctions.

We rented one on a track-hoe (the type on steel tracks, not the type like Jackie Joyner-Kersee) to demolish a house, it worked great once we figured out to push the trash away with the thumb and then clamp down with the bucket, not the other way.

I give it two "THUMBS" up.

I dont doubt it a bit on the "crunch it" part either, hope not though,,LOL Im gonna move it tommorrow and see how she goes, got a whole bunch of tall paper birches to pile up, right on the edge of a creek. I have a set of Blue Diamond forks for my skidsteer, I bought them at a Petrowsky Auction...pretty good stuff, I've lifted some heavy things with them...bent 2 set of Cat forks, the BD'S are holding up quite well

Oldmack, I can attest to the fact that thumb is plenty heavy. I was all stretched out like an octupus trying to work come-a-long and maneuver around. I even had one chain going to my truck bumper to keep it off lower boom while I winched it up. I ran uptown at lunch to grab a burger to take back with me, on way back passed a guy walking, stopped and asked him if he wanted to work as a swamper a couple of hours, he said "Screw working, I need a ride to Jenkins!" Jenkins is next local town. I just laughed and said "Screw you then, keep walking." heh heh,,oh well, world is full of assholes,,,,randyp

After using it you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. Don't pick on either side alone. Keep even presure from side to side. Picking concrete on just one side is how the mental midgets that work for me have broken a thumb off twice.

Geez loueeeezzzee,,zowie wowie wow owo,,I have piled timber so high with handy dandy thumb, I can clumb up on it and see part of puerto rico! That doodad iss just way too handy and efficient, working most excellent, no cracks, (even after my welding) Think I will buy nuther one to sit in yard and drink coffee on. i think im in wub,,, RANDYPEE

I have a question, me not being a welder "by trade", I usually rent an engine driven welder when I need to do some welding. I can rent one here for $60.00 for 24 hours, a whisperweld 250 amp mounted on axle with Honda gas engine. It does okay, but want to get one of my own for better convience. Im going to either get a Miller bobcat or trailblazer series and mount it on a small trailer, along with an air compressor and oxy-acetylene bottles. Not being a educated welder, my question is, Do I have to mount the oxy-acetylene in a standing position, or is it okay to build a rack for the bottles to lie flat in trailer? Reason I ask, seems like it would ride better lying down. Got any professional opinions on this or rules? thanks,,,,randyp

Acetylene should never be stored on it side...the tank is filled with a porous solid and the gas is dissolved in acetone to keep the pressure below 15 lbs. It is very dangerous to have acetylene above 15 psi!

You can get caps that fit over the gauges with a lock so you don't have to keep taking them on and off. Also color coded quick couplers for the hoses. We converted our acetylene to propane because it is much safer and easier to get when you run out in the middle of a job on a Saturday afternoon.

I usually run out of Oxygen before the Acetylene tank runs dry....so I got a second Oxygen tank.

I've never run an excavator myself but my first backhoe, (JD 510C) had an electric clam bucket on the front and I didn't care for it as much as my next tractor, (780ck Case) with a manual lever for the clam. An operator could actually "feel" the pressure applied to what was being picked up. The JD tractor was either tight, or loose with clamping. I could clamp and carry a cinder block with the Case. Of course it took some practice to not explode it.
