While thumbing through some tractor porn the other day, I noticed they brought back the 8n... So if you've ever wondered what they'd look like 60 years later, here ya go...

That's the "Boomer", a 50hp. tractor. I've seen a few sitting on dealer's lots.

Yup, one of my customer's is a New Holland dealer and has had one in his showroom for over six months. A little expensive.

I've seen them before...wouldn't mind having one with a front end loader and a backhoe...but a little out of my price range. Hell, right now I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to buy a horse trailer before May so I can go get the fiance's horse when she moves up here.

Gotta either buy or build a round pen, too....gotta have a place to keep it until we find a more permanent boarding facility.... :pat:

It all costs money...which I ain't got a lot of these days.

Dooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn'tttttttttttt do it!! Horses are a bottomless pit!!!! Hay burners and all that.

If you weren't 6 hours away I'd offer up a place for it...barn and a few acres of pasture...for a nominal fee..

Ever wonder how a blind person knows when to stop wiping?

Daughter's horse, (mare) could use some company, and I've got enough ground with a 60' round pen.

I'm still about 3.5 hours north however.

She majored in equestrian science...wants to own & operate a therapeutic facility where handicap kids learn to ride horses as part of their therapy....so we'll probably have a few of 'em some day....and probably be out west somewhere. I just want to have enough land that I can sit on my back porch sippin' an ice cold brew shootin' bottles & cans off the fence post.

Anyway, she got the horse in exchange for training another horse...and she was talking about having a second before she comes up, but I think that deal fell through and she's talking about selling the one she's got because she's broke (thanks in part to scumbag roommates that never have their share of the rent or utilities)...not to mention taking care of her friend's horse currently being kept at the same place as hers because her friend isn't doing much for her own horse. Pisses me off sometimes when she puts herself into financial hardship taking care of everyone ELSE, but there really ain't much I can do about it from this far away.

Would definitely make things easier if she sold it...let us get other debts cleared and get set up for it and then we could get a pair of horses to go out riding. Plenty of places to go riding around here...some of which ain't even all that far from the house.

I can't remember if he told me it cost him $36,900, or that was what he needed out of it.

I think they vary between $35,000 and $50,000....depending how it's optioned out and horsepower.

I think the retro 8N replica is a standard package with only a loader as an available option. Everything is chrome plastic on the dash it seems. All the fenders, hood, headlamps, and what was metal on the original is plastic as far as "tin" is concerned. Three cylinder diesel engine is under the hood.

Nice tractor to look at and they are durable but will they hold up long term, I don't know. They, (the New Holland tractors) are popular around here as parts are easy to get.

You are lucky to have survived that David, I lost a childhood friend to a rollover, he was on his dads 8N and got pinned under steering wheel. I think rollover bars are a must have safety item. randyp

Friend of mine lost his son with an 8N Ford also. Smushed his head between a loader bucket, (trip style) and a fence post by pulling wrong lever. They were pulling fence posts at the time.

That really was tragic. The tractor had been in the family since new and the father was not in the seat when he grabbed the lever.

I was always fortunate to never have turned one over,i did however get knocked off the 8-N once,i was pushing up late growth apple tree brush to burn, was getting late in the day,not really paying attention to what i was doing,i was headed down one row, looked behind me to make sure trailer was clearing corner, when i turned back around,WHAM!!!! low-lying branch hit me across the chest! knocked me right off the tractor! Damn lucky it did'nt run over me! cut the shit outta my elbow on the corner of the flatbed i was pulling on the way down! tractor ran into the tree, stalled out, bent up the grille, knocked the headlight off,Pop was pissed at the time, but was glad i did'nt get hurt worse! (me too!).........Mark

In the summer somebody is always turning a tractor over someplace. New, or old, someone's going to get hurt doing what they shouldn't be. Most times it is mowing a ditch with steep inclines, or a waterway where the tractor sinks suddenly and upsets. I don't see a lot of folks use seatbelts in the things either. I righted many of them in ditches and creeks and it's never a pleasure to know someone got hurt.

I like rollbars too. However, they do need to fold down for mowing under low hanging branches, (for instance). Certainly makes a tractor more useful when it will fit a multitude of jobs. I kinda cringe when I see someone doing loader work with a row crop tricycle tractor. Seen bunches of them upset cause of turning with a loaded bucket to sharply.

I agree, farming has always been an inherantly dangerous business,i for one am glad to see all the safety features added in recent years,if people would JUST USE THEM! be a lot less accidents! I have a treasured picture of my grandfather, sitting on his Oliver 88 with a borrowed "cornpicker" attachment in place,he's holding up his hands to show he still has all of his fingers at the end of the season! I dont know for sure how many times he turned over a tractor, but lived to be 87 years old, which was quite an accomplishment for a life-long farmer!...............Mark
