Has anyone had a bad experience with Biodiesel?

I am thinking about using B99 (99% biodiesel) but do not want to fry an engine to save a few pennies.

Mack had a service bulletin about Biodiesel, I think they only recomend 10 or 15% max, I'll try to find it and post it. Some guys in our area with new DPF equipped trucks used the 20+% biodiesel and it caused lots of regen problems. If it was a farm truck or a truck that wasnt used much I would not put any bio-diesel in it at all. I would only use it if I knew I was gonna run it all out before it sit to long.

As Mackpro said, Mack and volvo issued statements regarding the use of biodiesel blends in their engines.

Here is a link to some other information from Stanadyne's website, a common position statement from the FIE manufacturers: http://www.stanadyne.com/docs/pubs/FIEM_Common_Position_Statement_2009.pdf

Here's Mack Service Bulletin SB 210-043

SB 210-043 Use of BioDiesel Fuel in MACK Diesel Engines E-Tech, ASET, MP7, MP8 (June 28, 2007).pdf

I seem to remember that at one time higher blends were considered OK, but I think that was changed with the introduction of the DPF.

older manual motors will burn it with no with no problems, the electronic ones will run on b99 but will not make any horsepower, you need at least 25% mixture, to get your horsepower back, a 50 50 mix gives the best mileage and power it burns cleaner, so I am wondering how it would plug up the emission equipment on a newer truck
