Mornin' Guys,

Not sure to put this here or in electrical, settled on here, because in the end the engine wont start. 1999 CH613 with the E7 460 8Y1786 engine. 300,000+ miles, engine rebuilt a year ago by reputable rebuilder.

Current problem; Starts up fine first time of the day. Run it as long as you like, but dont shut it off; if you do, theres a 50 pct chance it wont restart, unless you let it rest or cool down for an hour.

Thought it was a fuel leakdown, but manually pumping up the transfer pump doesnt help.

When you try to restart it, the number one glaring tipoff is that the Electronic Malfuction light does not come on for a few seconds as it normally does, when you turn on the key. The engine will start, and idle for about 4 seconds, and then quit. It does not respond to the throttle; all it will do is idle. If you try to restart it from there, it will not start again. If you turn it off (remove key), wait for the 5 seconds or so for all the lights to go out, then try again, it will start for 4 seconds again.

Eventually (30 min to 60 min), the elec malfuction light will come on in the startup sequence, it'll start, and away you go.

Is this automatically a bad ECM? Is there a relay somewhere, that powers the ECM?

All suggestions dearly appreciated. Our company mechanic has pulled his hair out, litterally.

Thank you all. Bob
