What Is Your Favorite Mack Era?

I picked the 1950 -1969. This is because that includes the best of all of the Mack models. The R model, U model, and of course the great B model were all part of those years. It doesn't get any better than that

My favourite is mid 60's through to mid 70's. Then into the 80's.. Mack B, F, R, Cruise-Liner, Super-Liner then Ultra-Liner is covered.

Very tough question to answer. Every era have great models to vote for. But without World War 1 and British Troops we will not have our favorite hood emblem the BULLDOG. To me it the first truck mode because without the AB, AC model there will no Mack today.

My vote is for the 70-80's. I have to stay with my passion for the R-Model since I started out in a 1968 R-model back in the day. I currantly have a 1971 needing a lot of TLC.

Its gotta be the 70's and the 80's for me. However I wouldn't mind an AC or LT or Mack Jr pick-up, even a B-81 to go with my B-61. It's still hard to beat my RD's,DM's, and Superliner's

Kind of late to this forum but I did cast my vote for 50/60's. I was a 10 year old truck nut when the B came out- didn't like the round cab vs. the "L"s- but in my neck of the woods Macks ruled-in particular in construction. When I was working my way through school driving a Binder B-180, V-345 5/2 dump in early/mid 60's I looked at the "old guys" driving B's as the fortunate ones!

Never did get to drive a B until 40 years later when I bought my first project-on second thought, when I entered the corporate world we did have a couple of B's left in the fleet and I can remember moving a single axle B with a "Unishift". R models-another story-plenty of those in my life and they would be my next choice, including the U,DM era.

Not fair Barry!!!!! I really enjoy the B's of the 50's & 60's, but I grew up with the Macks of the 70's & 80's!

This is my story as well. I like the Bs, especially the B81s (they are my favorite Macks of all-time), but steel-nosed DMs and R models are hard to beat.

My vote is for the '50's and '60's. In my opinion, the B-Model was the best truck in it's day, and the R-Model was the best truck ever. I think our R-Models will be even more in demand as collectibles than the B's in the near future. An R with a few up-grades will perform along with any of the new trucks, and look better doing it.

I would love to own and operate an R model from the '80s.

When I was a kid, my father drove cement mixer for a local company. He also made tanker runs to Albany to pick up cement powder in the '70s. It was about a five hour round trip or so, and he drove a 237 for a few years and then a 300. Making the trip with him was a big thrill back then. I'd bring a pillow and occasionally fall asleep on some of the runs if they were in the wee hours of the morning (he'd leave around 3am on the morning runs). I used to love hearing a whine out of the engine and learned that it was the sound of the turbo. Sometimes when we'd go for an afternoon run, I'd sit up proud as a peacock going through town on our way out, hoping other kids from school would see me with my dad in that big Mack. Flipping on the engine brake was cool, too. Almost every time we'd stop at the Claverack Diner in NY for a quick bite. Those were good times.

My dad drove Macks of all types, from H? models, to B models, to DMs, to Rs. Macks are in his blood, and thanks to him, they are in mine as well.

The local concrete company that my dad worked for even held their last Mack mixer (a '70? DM800 with a 250hp 673 turbo and Quadbox) for a while to save it for me to drive for them (until it became apparent that I was going in a different direction professionally). Eventually, they put a dump body on it and then sold it years later to a race track.

Today, I own a '64 B61SX dump truck and someday I'd like to add a B81, DM800, and R model to the fleet. I keep the B61 at my parents' farm, partly so my dad can see it every day.

I think in my opinion first place goes to the R series for sure even if your not a Mack enthusiast everyone knows the R series . 70's 80's... Classic looks. Mechanical engines. Air conditioning. Tilt hoods. Can still realistically earn a living with them today.

You are 100% correct about Rs and Bs. Anybody with any exposure to trucking at all would answer the same way, IMO.

Not sure which would be my favorite but drove Cruseliner cab overs in the late 70s. What a p.o.s. Turn the steering wheel to beat hell and the best you could hope for was the steer axle would deflect, sure as hell wouldn't turn. Damn thing went 25 mph in reverse, steering would never keep up. Dropped turbos yearly. Differentials would give it up often. Pulled into Mack shop in Spokane with one cog that would catch occasionaly. Left trailer by the lake and limped it in. Cab was nice and comfortable as I remember.

Bought a gold bulldog, had plans to mount it on the toilet. Every time you flushed you had to grab the dog. Was not happy with those trucks. Never mounted it but still have a gold dog new in box. Company bought them from Min-Dak Mack in Crookston Mn. Spent many hours there waiting for repair work to be completed!

Remember the local freight company, Stordahl Trucking, had the classiest trucks when I was a kid-B models.They always had the look-like a truck should. Have a 1952 A model now. Like the looks but think one would have to be 5'6" or less to drive it. My problem is I am 5' 16" and don't fit.

I'd have to say mid to late 1970s R models are my favorite: because they remind me of when I was young! I drove three different R686STs, the first one had a 5 speed and a worthless Dynatard. The other two had six speed lo holes. The one I spent the most time in was a 1976 DM685S farm pick up truck. Lots of good times in that one with my AC/DC 8 tracks blasting!

70s and 80s because I love my RS700. However it does have a 1990 E7 engine...

The E7 was probably the pinnacle of Mack motors. We have owned many old 2 valves and they are a GREAT motor they just run and run and run and then run some more. Our RDs with E7 and 8LL have been very good trucks. Although I personally prefer the 12 speed trans.
